Jessica hung onto Louis’ arm tightly as they walked down the street after their candlelight dinner.

“So… what are you actually doing?” she asked.

“Me? I just run around keeping things running for my boss…” Louis replied carelessly.

“Nothing illegal?” she specified her worries.

“Emm…” Louis stared away into the sea that reflected the beautiful night view of Hong Kong.

Jessica felt his uneasiness and said no more. I love him and he loves me and that’s all I need to know…

“Jessica…” he said softly, the words blowing his words away. Jessica looked up to his dark face.

“How much do you love me…?” he asked. Jessica stared into his eyes that looked lost. She did not reply immediately.

Turning to face the sea, she said, “My love is like the wave, it will always be continuous… over the decades, over the centuries, over the lifetimes…”

Louis looked at the beautiful woman before him. His heart felt a pang of guilt and a shot of regret within him. Damn… I’m so screwed up…

The gust got colder and stronger. Jessica shuddered in her sleeveless top. Louis pulled her close to him hugging her to warmth. Jessica smiled and snuggled in as they both stared out to the dark, rough sea that had no end, enjoying the peaceful breeze in each others embrace for the whole night.

“Louis!” Mo summoned from within his smoke-fogged office.

“Yeah boss?” Louis scrambled from his lazing position on the bench outside.

“I want you to take care of these two bastards… They’re way too annoying for my liking,” he ordered gruffly pushing two photos of familiar faces for Louis’ view.

“I…”

“Do you have a problem with that?!”

“I… No…” he said, too clear of what Mo would do if he denied.

“Good, be off and get it done!” Mo said.

Louis turned and was off to accomplish his latest Mo Mission.

“Please… give us a chance Brother Louis!” the two men before him knelt fearfully begging for their lives.

Louis advanced mercilessly forcing them to a corner. The tip of his long knife glinted as the moonlight shone.

Closing his eyes, he brought down his weapon swiftly at the neck of his two victims without hesitation. His attack was fast from his one time too many practices over the years. Blood spluttered out, staining his torn jeans. The two fell lifelessly to the ground. Louis heaved a sigh trying to calm his racing heart.

What’s wrong with me? I’ve done this countless time… What’s wrong with me this time? He wondered nervously.

He turned to leave when he saw a figure standing in the shadows, witnessing his act. He ran forward to finish the person off but halted when the moonlight revealed the person’s identity.

“What’ve you done?” she asked coldly.

“I… I’ve no choice!” he cried.

She rushed forward and felt for their pulse. It was faint, but nevertheless still there.

“Quick help me…!” she shouted for him as she tried lifting the bleeding bodies.

“What… what are you doing?” he asked.

“We’re going to save them... We’ll bring them to Jessica’s…” Michelle said flatly.

Jessica stared as Michelle and Louis laid the two seriously injured men on her bed. She looked at them but they said nothing.

“Jess, please, there’s no time to be lost. Just fix them up properly…” Michelle said hurriedly seeing her friend stunned.

Jessica dashed towards her medical briefcase and started working on their wounds. Louis and Michelle ran around getting her clean water and towels. It was only at the crack of dawn that they had finished bandaging up the two. Michelle sank onto the couch with exhaustion while Louis slumped on the floor, his hands burying his head. Jessica closed the door and came out to get clarification from the two people she trusted most.

“Ask him…” Michelle said faintly. Louis made no attempt to explain. Instead, he suddenly made for the door and dashed out of sight.

Jessica gapped at his escape looking at Michelle for explanation, but she had already fallen asleep.

Jessica awoke with a start. She jumped up from her couch when she saw the other couch Michelle had slept on was empty. She dashed into her room to find it empty as well. Her stuff were all cleaned and neatly back to its places. There were no signs of anyone coming to her house. No blood stains… nothing.

Could I’ve been dreaming? She wondered if she was losing her mind.

She was not given the chance to wonder more when loud knocks began rapping impatiently on her door. She opened it to see the officer she saw at Raymond’s trial.

Jessica was exhausted from the day before, she did not hear what Kevin had to say with his ID inches away from her nose, but she could imagine. The men behind him began searching her apartment. She wanted to step forward to stop them messing her stuff but her world fell into darkness as she fell backward, where Kevin caught her in time.

“Jess?” Michelle’s voice awaked her.

“Michelle!” she cried recalling their experience last night.

“Inspector Kevin is here to ask you some questions…” Michelle interrupted her loudly before she could say more. “Just tell him what a routine night out we had…”

Jessica’s eyes shifted uncomfortably.

“Ms. Yip.. uh.. Michelle, mind us speaking to Jessica… uh in person?” Kevin said.

“I’m her lawyer from this second onwards. My client will not speak without the presence of her lawyer,” Michelle said firmly.

Kevin bit back his frustration but showed none in his face. “Sure, have a seat then… It’ll be quite lengthy…”

Raymond took the temperature of the two wounded men again. Damn, it’s gone high again…

He took the syringe that Michelle had smuggled out from Jessica’s case and hit it twice before injecting into their veins. God, let them be alright…

He threw the emptied syringe into the basket and paced back and forth glancing nervously at the ticking clock, wondering when Michelle would come back and explain all the mess.

“Why are you calling for a meet at this time?!” Louis hissed fretfully at Michelle.

“Are you afraid?” Michelle asked him. “You have not given me my deal!”

“I… I’ll do it soon,” he said.

“It’s too messy now, but you’d better still get it done…” Michelle said. “Haven’t you contacted him?”

“I couldn’t get him!” Louis cried in vexation. “Michelle, you’ve got to help me again!”

She looked at him coldly. “I will… after I receive my deal…”
