“What?!” Michelle screamed and it echoed down the empty bungalow. She dashed inside the room only to find Raymond’s claim true.

“Mich, I’m sorry… but…” Raymond started helplessly.

“Its okay, are you hurt Ray?” she looked at the bruise on his forehead. She pulled him down to sit by her as she dabbed some ointment on it.

“Mich, can you tell me what’s happening here?” Raymond asked.

“Ray, I did plan to tell you but since they’re gone, I think its better we forget it. In fact, maybe it’s a good thing… we can stop worrying about them now,” Michelle said tiredly.

Raymond nodded obediently. “You’re tired Mich… Look at you... You haven’t slept since you brought them to Jessica’s…”

He cuddled her into his arms cooing her to sleep.

“Thanks Ray…” she said in barely a whisper, falling asleep almost immediately.

Kevin slammed down the file on his table in frustration.

“Chill Kev…” Ron patted his back.

“We’re always one step too late!” he cried out.

“Well… they’re not going to be lucky all the while…” Ron said not very convincingly.

Leila scurried in at Kevin’s summon. “Officer Tong, I want all our men AND women to be out combing every street in Hong Kong for them, do you understand?!”

“Yes Sir!” she saluted and dashed out to organize the operation.

“I’ll go now…” Ron said as he was leading the operation. “You just try to pick out something from that… that… you know…”

Kevin nodded, dismissing Ron for the operation.

Michelle had been so occupied she almost forgot her own wedding.

“I can’t believe your own wedding slipped your mind!” Niki exclaimed in disbelief.

Michelle flashed her an unconvincing smile.

“Look at you…” she said examining Michelle’s eyes. “You look so tired… Are you that busy lately? You always come back past midnight. Some days you don’t even bother coming back. Are you camping at your office?”

“Nah, I… I just have a lot to do…” she said.

“So... let’s go through the to-do list..” Niki said and started reading off from a list of things to be done.

“Where’s Vicki?” Michelle asked suddenly realizing their apartment quite empty. Vicki had been staying at their place since her arrival from England.

“She’s with Alec… getting something...” Tavia who had been quiet all the time spoke up.

“Oh…”

“Mich, are you still mad at her for Ray’s case?” Niki asked.

“I… no… I don’t know…” Michelle replied feebly, but it was the truth as she had no time to think over it recently.

“You don’t know? Come on Mich… Vicki flew here when she heard about your case. She really cares for you… A true friend will always remain one even if you make her your enemy…” Niki advised wisely.

“She’s out to get you your wedding gift… She doesn’t stay around because she thinks you’re avoiding her. She thinks her presence annoys you…” Niki explained.

“No, I didn’t say that. Of course, her presence doesn’t annoy me… I kinda miss chatting with her,” Michelle admitted.

“Well you’re not exactly ever home ever since Ray’s case, that was what she thought.. You’ve no idea how guilty she feels…” Niki said some more.

“Mich, you really love Ray right?” Tavia asked out the blue, totally out of topic.

Michelle glanced surprised at her question.

“What kind of stupid question is that Tav… Of course Mich loves him…” Niki replied on Michelle’s behalf. Tavia nodded slowly, her eye lost in her own space.

Michelle looked at Tavia who looked out of it. “Tav? Tav?”

“Huh?” Tavia finally responded.

“Are you okay?” Michelle peered at Tavia who was always dreaming in her own world.

Tavia nodded smiling at her.

“Okay, let’s do the combing first…” Niki picked up the traditional comb and began combing the first time trough Michelle’s silky hair.

“I want to do it too!” Tavia cried excitedly wanting to take part in the traditional combing of the bride a night before the wedding.

Michelle laughed as she looked on her two friends fighting for the comb. She’s surely going to miss staying with them.
