“Niki!” Tavia cried, pulling her friends’ arm.

“What is it Tavia? We’ve got to get Michelle to the hospital!” Niki cried, anxiously helping Kenneth move Michelle into her car Alec had swung by.

“No… We need to see to Raymond. He does not have any lawyer by his side! Alec, Vicki and Kenneth can see to Michelle…” Tavia said anxiously.

“But... the ambulance is not here yet! And Michelle’s is cold as death!” Niki said in dilemma, not knowing where to head.

Jessica rushed forward to touch Michelle’s forehead and then felt her neck. “Move back people give her some air.” She took Michelle’s veil down and fanned at Michelle’s face.

“Tavia’s right, we’ve got to see to Raymond too…” Kenneth said. “Michelle will be safe with Jessica. Vicki and Alec can stay with her too. We should get to Ray as fast as possible,” Kenneth said, worrying about his best buddy.

“I…” Niki was torn in between.

“The ambulance will arrive soon Niki. Go, I will take care of my sister…” Vicki said giving Niki a deciding push.

Niki nodded and Kenneth and Tavia got into her car together and sped off after the police vehicle.

The three of them practically ambushed the police station’s reception. “Where’s Raymond Lam?”

Leila looked at them. “Why, trying to pull some tricks again huh?”

“No… Raymond is not a murderer!” Tavia shrieked emotionally.

Leila shut her eyes and stuck fingers into her ears at her shrilly outburst. “No point telling me peeps. He’s charged for sure and we’ve even found the bodies in his private bungalow by the beach.”

“What?! What are you talking about?” Kenneth slammed his fist down before Leila. She seemed alarmed and stepped back.

Niki pushed her two frantic friends back. “Let me deal with this okay? Being emotional doesn’t help…” They were panting with vexation, but forced an agreement nod.

“I’m Niki Chow, Mr. Raymond Lam’s attorney. I want to see to my client now,” Niki handed her name card to Leila.

Leila glanced at the card and then looked at Niki. “I’m sorry Niki… Er, you can’t…”

“Why not?!” Niki cried, forgetting to be calm herself.

“Err…. Officer Kevin told us to not let you interrupt with this case,” she said uncomfortably.

“What?! That jerk! You’re detaining my client without the presence of an attorney! I can sue you, you know!”

Leila looked uneasy and then reluctantly nodded. “Fine, come with me.”

Leila led Niki to the investigation room where Raymond sat facing Kevin and Ron.

Niki stepped past Leila and barged in the room without a knock, banging the door wide open.

“Niki!” Kevin and Raymond cried at once.

Niki shot Kevin a murderous glare and then sat down next to Raymond. “Have you said anything…?”

“Erm… just my name,” Raymond said. “How’s Mich, Niki?”

“Niki, can you try not to interrupt with this case?” Kevin pleaded.

“Don’t worry Ray, Jess took a look at her and they’re sending her to the hospital already…” she assured Raymond who looked far more worried for his wife than himself, totally ignoring Kevin’s words.

“Niki please, you have no idea how dark this case is. I don’t want you to be involved and dragged down by it,” Kevin moved over to her side, persuading her.

“I’m his attorney, how can I not be involved?!” she yelled back at him fiercely.

“Can you be more rational?! Not everyone is as innocent as they look! I don’t want anything to happen to you!” Kevin said impatiently pointing at Raymond.

Niki sprung up from her chair and glared at Kevin. “I know very well what I should do and not do, Officer Cheng,” she said coldly.

“Leave now okay? He can get any other lawyers but not you. His dad is rich, he can afford them,” Kevin’s heart leaped thinking Niki was going to leave.

Niki’s face turned bright red and then darkened to a fuming purple shade before giving Kevin a soundly slap across his face. Kevin touched his stinging cheek in shock. Raymond was up from his seat and pulling Niki’s shoulder back to calm her down. Leila who was watching the whole happening from the door gasped.

“Kev… are you okay?” Ron shot to his side, patting him soothingly on the back. Kevin shrugged off his friend’s pat and glowered angrily at Niki before storming out of the investigation room.

Ron looked back at Raymond and Niki. “Officer Tong!” he summoned irritably.

“Yes Sir!” Leila hurried in after scurrying aside for Kevin to leave.

“Come in and shut that damn door. We’ve got questioning to do!” Ron sat down with a thud glaring at the two persons before him and flipping open the file on the desk.

“Raymond!” Michelle screamed awake. The doctors and nurses calmed her down.

“Calm down, Mrs. Lam,” a male doctor held her shoulder. Michelle realized that she was in hospital and quiet down.

“How are you feeling, Mrs. Lam?” he asked.

“I’m better, I’m okay… can I go now?” she asked hurriedly.

“No, you have to stay back for further check up, even if there’s nothing wrong with you I can tell that you’ve been over exhausted for the pass few days, you need to get some good rest, before we can discharge you,” the doctor said again.

“But I’m alright, I don’t need any rest, I want to see my husband now,” she said indignantly, jumping out of the bed.

“Ms. Myolie, please give her the injection,” the doctor directed.

“Yes, Dr. Ma,” a young nurse with a childlike face appeared.

“No! I don’t want an injection, Dr. what’s wrong with me?” Michelle pushed away Myolie’s needle. “I don’t want an injection; I need to see my husband right away!”

“Mrs. Lam, you are not cooperating with me, if you listen to me we can forego the injection,” Dr. Ma bargained.

“Okay, I’ll listen to you…” Michelle settled down.

“You’ll have to stay here for further check up,” he said again.

“But I’m just over exhausted. I know, with all the cases and my wedding. I’ll not overwork myself again. I promise you doctor. I need to see my husband now because he’s held up. He needs a lawyer. I’m his attorney. Please doctor!” Michelle begged.

The doctor just smiled, shaking his head at the stubborn girl.

“Nice to meet you, attorney Michelle Yip Suen. I’ve seen you in the papers. I’m your doctor, Dr. Steven Ma,” he held out his hand.

Michelle took it feeling dumb. Didn’t he hear what I said?

By the time Michelle felt the pinch of pain, Myolie was already taking out the needle from her left arm. Michelle looked at Dr. Ma, and then at Myolie, and then her heavy eyelids fall to a complete shut.

“Dr. is this way okay?” Myolie asked Steven, glancing at Michelle who fell back to sleep again.

“Myolie, it’s the only way…” Steven said before walking out to meet the anxious friends waiting outside.

“She’s fine,” Steven assured Vicki again when she gave him a reconfirming look. Steven look around to see the rest had entered to see Michelle.

“You take care too okay? Don’t over tire yourself…” he added, patting her shoulder before walking off.
