“Jessica, I told you I have no time to meet you,” Louis said impatiently into his phone.
“We haven’t met since the day you dashed out of my house! Do you mind telling me what’s happening cause Michelle’s not breathing a word to me!” she cried in exasperation.
“She has the right not to, and the reason not to…” Louis mumbled.
“What? I can’t hear you,” Jessica said.
“Fine, come meet me 9pm tonight at the bar, VIP room 3,” Louis said suddenly.

Tuesday, 23rd July 2002, 8:30pm
Jessica pushed her way around the crowded bar, looking around for VIP rooms. She finally found her way there. She took in on deep breath, straightening her hair and clothes before pushing the door open.
Jessica’s eyes bulged with disbelief when she saw Louis kissing another woman fervently on the couch, their clothes half undone. They were too occupied to notice her.
Jessica rushed forward pulling the girl away from Louis.
“Jess? You’re early!” he cried. “I…”
The girl wrapped her arms around Louis lovingly. “Who’s that Louis?”
Jessica felt herself shaking with anger. She slapped Louis across the face and stormed out without a backward glance. Louis stared after Jessica until she was out of sight, before brushing aside the overly intimate hooker. He threw her a few notes and got up to leave the place.

Tuesday, 23rd July 2002, 11:30pm
“How could you do this to me?!” the shrilly shriek almost burst his eardrums
“I’m sorry,” was all he said.
“Mo’s had this planned since the beginning. I told you to watch out!” Michelle still blamed him for her mishap and Raymond’s arrest.
“I didn’t have any idea okay! You were the one suggesting saving them!” Louis cried impatiently.
“Oh yeah, you want to add the two murders to your own account?” Michelle retorted angrily.
“No! I told you to help me but you wouldn’t!” he said. “And I’ve done you your deal!”
“I’m helping you okay. But I’ve got so much on my hands now I can hardly breathe,” Michelle replied with equal impatience.
“Fine, just let me rot with the Mo’s” Louis surrendered to his fate.
Michelle walked over and gave him a cold stare. “Don’t you dare to say that again! You’re the reason all of us are so mess up now and now you give up?!”
“But… but there’s no road out!” Louis stammered.
“Then I’ll dig you a tunnel out…” Michelle vowed under her breath.

Wednesday, 24th July 2002, 7am
Michelle did not sleep at all, but busied herself reading up what ways there were to win Raymond’s case.
“Mich! You’re over working yourself again!” Niki cried seeing the pale face of her friend having stayed up all night.
“I’m fine Niki… I… I’m going to lose this case if I don’t find any more evidence and information to support Ray,” Michelle said faintly.
“Why can’t you let me help you? Why?! Just let me know what’s going on and I can help you with the case too…” Niki asked her Michelle.
Michelle looked at Niki. I want to, but I can’t Niki… I don’t want you to be dragged along with this case…
“Its okay, Niki I can manage…” Michelle put up a brave front for Niki.
“Did Ray actually…” Niki began uncomfortably.
“No! Of course Ray’s not a murderer Niki!” Michelle cried.
“Okay, okay, I just don’t understand why you don’t want me to help out. I just feel you’re hiding a lot from me,” Niki said.

Thursday, 27th July 2002, 12noon
Kevin leaned against the wall to relieve his tiring legs, having stood at the position for almost 3 hours.
Man, I can’t believe I’m waiting for her again. I’ve been waiting for her all the time since the first time I met her… Kevin monologue with himself to kill time.
He had been pacing around the street for uncountable times, but Niki had yet appeared from her law firm. He was sent away by Niki’s secretary and firm’s security after he waited and lingered around her office for long hours for the past few days since Raymond’s arrest.
Kicking the air grumpily with his hands in his pockets, he glanced again at the steps leading to her office. It was already lunch time, he prayed Niki come down soon otherwise he would be in vain again for the day.
“Niki!” he cried, seeing her descending the steps alone. Niki did not even glance his way and turned to the other direction. He ran and caught her arms.
“Let go…” she said coldly not bothering to look at him, and continued with her pace.
“Please listen to me…,” Kevin started. “I’m a policeman, of course I arrest crooks. Those friends of yours… they deserve the trouble they stir for themselves!”
Niki gritted her teeth and turned to glare defiantly at Kevin. Her face was bright red with anger. He was so taken aback by her fuming glare that he surrendered his two hands and stepped back. She looked like she was about to bite off his head but chose to walk off instead. Kevin watched her back disappearing into the crowd in front helplessly.

Friday, 26th July 2002, 9am
“So how is it?” Kevin asked Ron.
“You should be asking the lawyer…” Ron pointed to the man beside him.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Raymond’s as good as convicted,” the lawyer replied.
“Good, I don’t want them to be pulling any more tricks. The sooner this ends, the sooner my headache heals,” Kevin said.
“…and the sooner you patch up with Niki,” Ron hissed jokingly.
Kevin only groaned at the mention of the name.
“COURT!”

Michelle swept the papers on her desk angrily onto floor. The headline read ‘Legendary Lawyer fails husband’. She had lost the case. The first case she lost since she started career, and she lost more than her case, she lost her husband who was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Tavia had screamed upon hearing the decision announced. The gang of friends was all devastated at the announcement. Raymond glanced at Michelle with a smile saying “It’s alright, I still trust you…”

“And finally…” Ron toasted with Leila and Kevin.
“It’s far from the end…” Kevin murmured. And he was absolutely right.
