“Ray!” Michelle greeted brightly as she entered the visiting room.

“Mich! I miss you!” he said, before noticing Wallace entering after Michelle.

Raymond stared at him dumbfounded.

“Good news Ray, Wallace is helping with your case, and trust me, he’s much better than me. I believe we have the chance to win!” Michelle smiled happily pulling Wallace to the seat next to her.

“Hey Wallace,” Raymond greeted with not much enthusiasm.

Raymond watched as Michelle chatted animatedly with Wallace, discussing his case of course. Wallace gave Raymond a few pointers on the art of speaking in the court, which he silently appreciated. Raymond looked at the sparkle in Michelle’s eyes that he never saw since their graduation, not even when he had proposed to her. When they left, Raymond could not help but feel that the two had been spending too much time together discussing his case than necessary.

“What’s it Louis?” Michelle looked at the frantic face of his.

“I’ve been exposed. I’ve got to run. And my help you promise is still not here!” Louis cried anxiously.

“Huh? I have been busy with Raymond’s case, but Kevin and Ron did not contact me so far,” she said guiltily.

“I’ve got to run,” he said. “The Mo’s are after me, and the Hung’s are taking this chance to finish me off since my last escape.”

“Wait!” Michelle caught his arm. “You can’t run! If you run, you’ll be running forever. Just go to the police. They’ll help you.”

“Are you out of you mind?! I’m not the police that walked out with a clean record 5 years ago Mich! I’m totally in the dark to them now.” He refused her suggestion

“Okay, okay, but you can’t run, just come with me,” she forced him to come along.

Michelle made her way towards her office from Wallace’ place. She had been staying over for few nights now. They were practically studying the case every spare moment they had; falling asleep over it and then waking up to study it again. She had even taken time off from her office but she needed to get some documents from her office today.

She was crossing the quiet street, when a white van speeded towards her direction. She was frozen at her spot, watching in terror as the van menaced to run her down. However, the van did not ram into her. It slowed down but not to an entire stop. The sliding door suddenly opened, and two masked men made a grab for her, pulling her in roughly, before speeding away again. The deserted morning street was again dead as before.

“Louis missing?!” Ron cried impatiently, slamming down the manila file that was bloated with Louis’ details and crime record onto his desk.

Leila shook in her spot, gulping down her fear. Despite their personal relationship outside, he was still the strict superior of hers in office.

“What have you been doing? I thought I told you and the rest of the team to tail him 24/7?” he sunk down to his armchair staring at Leila in frustration, waiting for a reasonable answer.

“We did tail him Sir! The last we saw him was last night 9:30pm when he was in the Zouk’s bar! I think he realized that we were watching him… he purposely shook us off. I think he is up to something Sir!” Leila reported.

Ron looked at her unbelievingly. “I asked you to tail him! Not let him know you’re watching over him! Did you walk over and ask his permission to watch over him?”

“Sorry Sir! We’ll track him as soon as possible…” Leila said meekly.

Ron leaned back to his chair and heaved a sigh of regret. “Leila, I’m sorry… Louis is a very important person in this case. I’m just too anxious. We don’t want the Mo’s adding any more murders, burglaries or kidnaps to the stack of cases we’ve yet to pin them down with…”

Leila dared herself to look at Ron’s eyes and found them blinking with sincere apology. She smiled forgivingly. “I understand Sir!”

“Sir! I have some news to report. We’ve been tailing Michelle too, in case she makes a run. She… she’s missing from our observation since she went to Wallace’ hotel on Tuesday evening.”

Ron nodded thoughtfully at her report but said nothing, except frowning puzzlingly, as if trying to associate the two missing persons.

When he finally awoke from his thinking, he flashed her one of his rare smile. “Please track down Louis asap… and when you find him, please don’t let him slink away again.”

Leila saluted, her heart flip flopping away, “Yes Sir!”

Ron smiled at her adorable salute. He just loved her more ach day especially in the police outfit. “And Lei… Love you…”

Leila blushed, stepping outside.

Michelle awoke to a dark, stale aired room. The room was dark but Michelle could see sunlight seeping in through the cracks of uneven wooden plank walls. She looked down to see herself bounded tightly to a chair. She was gagged. Her head was groggy and she felt a sharp pain behind her neck, where she had been hit to unconsciousness when she was grabbed into the van.

Michelle listened to the serene surroundings except for the chirps of the birds and croaking of the wild. Her heart turned cold as she frantically tried to figure out where she had been kidnapped to.

Niki and Tavia registered their names with the jailer and entered the visiting room.

“Hie Ray! How’ve you been doing? Are you fine inside?” Tavia asked before she was even seated.

Raymond smiled faintly, “I’m fine Tav. Don’t worry. No one bullies a tough guy like me!”

Niki smiled at Raymond’s act. “Still the macho guy huh?”

“Where’s Michelle, Niki?” he asked instead. “She hasn’t visited me since Monday. She used to come everyday…”

Niki exchanged uncomfortable looks with Tavia. “She… she hasn’t visited you?”

“She’s busy with your case Ray… Your hearing is a really tough one…” Niki added hurriedly seeing Raymond’s face fell.

“Yeah, Mich is practically breathing your case with Wal…” Tavia blurted halfway but throttled her last few words when she received a warning kick from Niki.

“..with well planned strategies… You’re winning for sure!” she covered her mistake almost immediately.

Raymond looked at his two friends. “She’s with Wallace isn’t she?”

“No… no…” Tavia cried, but didn’t know what prove to support her claim with.

“When was the last time she went home?” Raymond turned to look at Niki.

“Just now!” Niki lied, but she was one bad liar.

“Niki, you’re the worst liar on earth. You’re known for your straightforwardness and honesty…” Raymond commented flatly.

“I… I think she goes home everyday, but I’ve never met her. But she has to go home Ray, to change and everything. She didn’t exactly mo…” Niki explained hastily, but it was her turn to receive a pinch from Tavia. She couldn’t cover her words, so she just gave Raymond an awkward smile.

“She means Mich didn’t exactly move around a lot except for staying in her office and burying herself under the piles of information on your case. We’ve seen her, haven’t we, Niki?” Tavia covered for her.

Raymond just sighed and looked away from his friends, leaning back on the wooden chair. His mind wondered to when he had proposed to Michelle and their wedding. It had been the happiest moment of his life to be able to slip the wedding ring into her finger. But now…

“Tell her, her husband’s waiting for her…” Raymond spoke carelessly, as he got up to return to his cell, leaving his two friends staring guiltily at him.

The door of her hut swung open as a masked man stepped in with a lunch box. Since she could not make any sounds except for a few muffled gags, she shot them murderous glares.

“Come on babe, you’re already too skinny to diet. Eat something before you starve to death,” the man said pulling her gag apart and untied her hands. “Oh don’t bother screaming, you’re miles from the nearest civilization.”

“Who are you? What do you want?” she demanded, though she had some ideas in her mind.

“You’re not going to win that case if you’re stuck here are you? Big Brother Mo has been waiting for this golden chance almost for an eternity! Now that rich dude will be squatting behind bars, Big Brother Mo can finally regain what he lost. We’ll let you go as soon as the appeal case is lost, and the case is close for sure…,” he said, but Michelle snorted in disbelief.

“Okay, fine, besides, that Boss Mo wants that undercover bastard you are always meeting to come back,” he said.

“Louis?” she blurted.

“Louis! No one betrays Mo and walks away…” he said again.

“He’s not coming back,” she spat.

“Oh yes he will, because when you don’t feed him for 3 days in a row, he’s gonna get the idea that Mo’s got you,” they guffawed.

How’d they know? Michelle had brought Louis to hide in one of Raymond’s empty apartments. She was the only one who knew where he was and was responsible to send him meals. Michelle silently prayed Louis do anything but come back for her at Mo’s.
