“I’ve told him… I did…” Raymond said to no one in particular. There was a figure by him but he couldn’t and didn’t bother to make out who it was. He knew he was going to pass out soon, and slammed some reasonable amount of notes onto the counter for his binge drinking payment. Picking his coat, he staggered into his car to go home but fell asleep almost immediately.

Raymond stirred from his slumber, his head felt heavy. It was dark and he looked around to find himself asleep in his car. Raymond looked at her. She had been sitting silently next to him for the whole night.
“Ray, you’ve got to wake up from your drunk,” she tried to wipe his tear stained face with a tissue. He had been crying in his sleep. He was so lost of what to do.
He touched the hands on his face and out of the blue, Raymond made a grab for her shoulders, pulling her close and started kissing her. Tavia was startled but she couldn’t resist the man she had loved silently for 6 years.
Love is about being selfish… I’ll do this just once… I’ve been dreaming of it for nearly 6 years… Tavia soothed herself and pulled Raymond closer, returning him kisses even more passionate.

Michelle stood in the shadows, watching the two figures intimately kissing each other. She was worried about Raymond’s outburst, she wanted to come along to cheer him up, to be his good wife. She had looked all over the places and she’d finally spotted him at their regular bar. But she can see that he had found another person in her place.
The car plate number, the man, the woman, were all too familiar to her. She shivered as a strong gust blew. Though she was shivering because of the cold wind, but her heart was even more frozen by the two persons who were too occupied to notice her presence.
Michelle watched their act. She diverted her tear-filled eyes to the dark sky above, willing the tears to flow back in. Sniffing bravely, she didn’t know if she should laugh or cry. She hobbled away clutching painfully at the wound on her chest that had yet fully recovered.

“Michelle?” Steven looked at the frail figure that was staggering by the walls towards his office.
“Doctor…”
“Are you feeling alright? You look so pale…” Steven asked with concern.
“Doctor… My head…” Michelle grasped her head piercing with excruciating pain before falling into his arms.
Steven’s heart panicked. No, it couldn’t come this fast…
“Myolie!” He called out, lifting Michelle onto the bed.
“Yes, Dr. Ma?” she popped out her head from her counter.
“Quick, call for the brain specialist! Michelle’s concussion from that fall is attacking faster than I expect,” he ordered.
Myolie immediately darted away as Steven pushed Michelle into the operating theatre and prepared for the surgery.

Wallace stepped into the boarding gate, took one last look at the busy airport behind him, heave one last sigh… All the best, Michelle, my love… Though, I’ll be the biggest sinner for loving you still, I hope you’ll be the happiest princess… I know you’ll be…

Raymond awoke to find himself half undressed. He slapped his groggy head twice, wincing as the effects of binge drinking ached and weighed his skull down. He sat up and was surprise to find that he was in his car. What happened?
He turned to see Tavia lying asleep beside him, her clothes were not properly done as well.
God, what’ve I done?!
He tugged his seatbelt free and jumped out of his car. The midnight breeze immediately greeted him, taunting his sin with its coolness. His mind whirled back, as flashes of his drunken deed replayed in his mind.
NO!!! Raymond punched his head, as if trying to shake out those images. He ran forward to the stilts overlooking the sea, and let out a shout of frustration. He had never felt so guilty before in his life.
I’ve cheated on my wife who nearly died saving me… But she doesn’t even love me! Yet she doesn’t even realize it… Arrghhh! I’m in such a mess! God help me…
Tavia began to stir. She alighted from the car and approached him slowly, patting his shoulder. “Ray…?”
“Tav… I… I…” Raymond began to panic.
Tavia clasped the tip of her fingers lightly at his lips. “Shh… I understand Ray, you’ve always loved Michelle only. I won’t breathe a word to anyone.”
“Tav… I’m so sorry, I was…” Raymond’s mind was too mess up to think.
“I’m fine, Ray,” she assured. “I… I’ve really liked you since our days in Oxford, but I guess your eyes only saw Michelle.”
Raymond didn’t know what to say or where to look.
Tavia reached for his shoulder. “Ray, can… can I have one last hug? I… I’ve been dreaming of this for 6 years…”
Raymond was lost in his dilemma. Seeing his silence, Tavia leaned over and snuggled in. She closed her eyes and listened to his pounding heartbeat. She wanted very much to hold on to this moment, to eternalize it, but she knew better. She felt her eyes stinging with tears. Muffled sobs escaped her pursed lips. Raymond’s hand unconsciously wrapped around her back, and patted her. His head leaned above hers, he felt unexpectedly soothed and warmed in the embrace.

“Michelle?” Her eyelids fluttered open. Steven was looking down at her. She felt a pang of disappointment, yet she was unsure of who she had anticipated most to see.
“How’s it?” she asked.
“We removed the blood clot… but…” Steven stuttered.
“Tell me please…”
“I’m afraid there was a sudden emergency during your surgery as the veins were too close. We had no choice but to do it. We removed some parts of your brain cells. You may suffer some memory lost…”
“I see…” Michelle wondered which part of memory was she about to lose because neither the nightmares nor the aching scene she had witnessed faded.
“It’ll happen gradually…” he said. “You’ll be forgetting some things you may have known…”
“The baby’s…” Steven began, but Michelle just nodded understandingly telling him to stop repeating the hurtful fact.
“I’ve been trying to call Raymond, but his line can’t be reached. Do you want me to contact your other friends?” he added with concern.
Michelle shook her head. “Steve, I don’t want anyone else to know…”
