“So… Mind telling us when did you and Ray start?” Tavia asked during their girls’ gossip night.
“Yeah! I was so shocked to hear it during the hearing…!” Niki exclaimed excitedly tuning her busybody mode fully on.
Vicki just watched silently as her bond with Michelle somewhat turned cold after Raymond’s arrest. She was nevertheless as earnest.
“Actually, there’s nothing going on. It was just Raymond’s made up confession to Ron. He never thought he would have to repeat those words in the hearing… where the rest of us would be listening, though I did know of it while discussing with him and advising how he should be speaking for his case the day before…” Michelle explained honestly.
“And you didn’t make him change his way of… addressing you?” Tavia asked.
“Well… that would be kind of dishonest to the law…” Michelle said slowly.
“Like it’s the first…” Niki added.
“Yeah, but Ron heard it…” Michelle tried her best to convince her friends and herself that Raymond and her had nothing going on, but until now, she wasn’t so sure anymore.

“Ray, you’re so dead!” Kenneth threatened to choke him.
“He’s nowhere near dead. He’s like out of the mess with a special complimentary gift as well,” Alec said.
“Huh? What are you guys saying..?” Raymond asked confused.
“Oh, stop playing innocent with us! You and Mich!” Kenneth smacked him on the back.
“Wh… What?!” Raymond choked and was about to spray his mouthful of coffee onto Kenneth face but managed to gulped it down.
“No way, Mich has about this much feeling for me…” Raymond held his pinkie up and inched his thumb up to its tip.
“You sure nothing’s going on?” Kenneth eyed his friend who looked suspicious.
“Yeah, I swear Michelle was giving you that I’m-falling-for-you gaze in the court. And she blushed! You know how cool that girl is? She’s practically an ice sculpture. And she actually blushed when you called her your girlfriend!” Alec persisted.
“Nah… Not that I’d complain if she DID have anything for me…” Raymond said fending off the possibilities that Michelle would have feelings for him.
They had after all known each other for nearly 5 years; she would have long fallen for him if she’d wanted to. Nonetheless, he could not deny his pleasure when his peers pointed out signs that Michelle had fallen for him. He will just need to take more note of her the next time she’s around.

Kevin turned his armchair around and shifted restlessly in it. What was wrong with him? He could no longer focus on his piling tasks on his desk. He got up from his chair and walked around his office to appease his mind but in vain.
A small note at the edge of his desk fell and floated lightly before landing on Kevin’s polished shoes. He picked it up, irritated, but his irritation was gone almost at once when his eyes caught the name printed in gold letters on the name card.
“Ms Chow?” Kevin spoke.
“Hello?” Kevin said some more when no one replied.
“Who’s this?” her familiar voice finally answered.
Ouch… She doesn’t remember me… Kevin felt a strange pinch of disappointment.
“Officer Cheng,” he replied. Silence.
“Hello?”
“Yeah, I remember you now… What do you want now? I’ve banked in the money accordingly,” she said in a I’m-too-busy-to-speak tone.
“Oh,” Kevin had almost forgotten about the compensation he was suppose to get from her.
“If there’s nothing else, bye,” she said curtly.
“Wait!” he cried but the tone was already beeping monotonously at the other end.

Michelle and Niki stepped into Just Cool and settled at their usual seat at their regular food outlet. A waitress went over to take their order.
“Phew, I’ve been having so many cases on my desk I’m beginning to suspect all Hong Kong people are involved in some kind of cases,” Niki groaned.
“Lucky you, I haven’t had much since…” Michelle said but then her voice trailed off.
“Ow, it’s okay Michelle… It’ll die down, all that RM news on papers… It’s kind of interesting to see you two featured together. Haha…” Niki commented when her eyes caught a newspaper headline on the papers someone passing by happened to be holding. Without hesitation she pulled it for more read.
“Hey!” the voice shouted but then hushed when he realized the culprit. “It’s you?”
“Just a moment…” Niki showed him her hand without looking up. Kevin stood watching her.
“Mich, read this… This is fate…” Niki pointed to the news where her photo and Wallace’ was aligned side by side. The headline read ‘Rulers of the Law?’.
Her eyes scanned down the article that featured her winning Raymond’s case despite the lack of evidence and resources and was labeled an astonishing win while Wallace… He had miraculously solved Daniel’s case and Isabelle, who got off the drug trafficking hook after pushing all the blames to Jane, was finally arrested.
Daniel… You may rest in peace… she whispered gratefully. Wallace had kept his words… His photo... There was neither smile nor light in his face.
“Aheemm…” Kevin cleared his throat.
“Oh thanks!” Niki cried happily until when she turned upwards and saw that it was Kevin.
“Ms, you seem to have this habit of making me wait for you…” Kevin pointed.
“Here you can have it back!” Niki pushed the paper back ungratefully.
“Such graciousness…” he tsked at her.
“Oh, if you don’t mind, you can join us for dinner,” Michelle offered.
Niki’s jaw dropped open. “Mich!”
Michelle’s eyes were already back to the news on Kevin’s paper. She read and learnt that after Wallace’ case she would now be the legal heir to Daniel’s will. She would be signing the official papers. Does that mean… that she will meet Wallace again? She did not know if she looked forward to the meet.
“Mr. Kevin Cheng!” Niki gasped unbelievably as the guy before her started wolfing down her plate of lasagna that just arrived.
“em ungree habenate fo olday..” he mumbled between his mouthfuls. (I'm hungry haven't ate for whole day)
“You’re disgusting,” Niki watched him voraciously gobble down the whole plate. It was just a matter of seconds before the plate was cleaned off.
Michelle laughed at his comical eating, and at Niki’s appalled face. She could almost feel their mutual attraction, but just smiled silently watching their perpetual bickering over the dinner for the whole night.

Raymond stared at the many newspapers and magazines displayed across his father’s desk. As if his father’s 2.5 meter long desk was not enough, the displays continued lying in a straight line across the long black coffee table. Raymond did not have a good feeling about this. He gulped once and loosened his tie a little.
“Dad?” he called.
“Ray you’re here…” Mr. Lam Tin spun around.
“Dad, I… These news are…” Raymond couldn’t make a choice for his words.
“Ha, ha, ha… Good son, you’ve done well for the first time you crept out of your mom’s womb…” His father threw back his head and laughed.
Raymond stared on trying to figure what his father’s complicated mind was thinking about.
“Michelle Yip huh? The legendary lawyer? Daughter of the multi billion profitable international company! You’ve chosen well!” his father said picking up one of the magazines where there were shots of Raymond and Michelle all over the front page. It read ‘Prince and Princess in Love.’
“No Dad, it’s not like that…” Raymond began helplessly.
“What do you mean it’s not like that? Don’t you like her?” he demanded.
“Well… yes I do…” Raymond confessed bitterly.
“Then that’s it…” Mr. Lam threw the magazine back to the pile. “And hurry Ray, I can’t wait to meet my in-laws…”
Raymond looked on feebly at his ecstatic father.
