~~~**~~~~**~~~**~~~~**
As the day soon turned into the night everyone at Holanery Corp. was restless and still very worried for the missing Ron Ng. There was not much news about his whereabouts and the police were doing what they could possibly do to find him.
A very sad Tavia was still staring out the window with Raymond now standing by her side with a hand on her shoulder.
Raymond: I’ve never seen you like this before…so worried and sad
She turned and looked at him.
Tavia: That’s because I’ve never loved someone as much as I love him…
Her words made him ache. It was a pain that he felt many years ago when Tavia had decided to break up with him.
~Flashback~
She sat there watching the basketball game like usual, cheering on the school team. She wasn’t a cheerleader but both her boyfriend and her best friend were on the team. Her eyes were on her boyfriend as she watched him dribble the ball down to the other team’s side of the court and then he passed the ball. Now her eyes were neither on the ball nor her boyfriend but rather her best friend who was only metres away from the net waving his arms high in the air. The score at the moment was a tie 101 to 101. His teammate then made a pass to him as he dunked the ball into the net. The entire school cheered with joy as the game came to an end. Holding the ball in his hands he looked around and saw her. He smiled at her as she smiled back.
Slowly the many people inside the gym disbanded as the game ended and now she was sitting alone thinking of the last dunk that won the game. She kept on running the image of him looking over to her and smiling at her over and over again. But the images soon faded as she felt a hand on her shoulder. Turning around it was her boyfriend, now all changed.
Raymond: Did you like the game?
She nodded in agreement as she slowly got up.
Raymond: I was thinking maybe tomorrow since I have no practice we could go down to the beach or something.
She didn’t say a word but he took her silence as a yes. The two of them walked out of the gym and saw Ron along the way.
Ron: That was an awesome game man.
Raymond: You did a beautiful dunk to end it off…
Ron: Well if it wasn’t for your speed that got the ball down to their side of the court I couldn’t have possibly made that dunk
Raymond smiled with pride hearing his friend and captain compliment him.
Ron: Am I interrupting the two of you?
Raymond was about to answer but before he could possibly say another word he was interrupted
Tavia: No, not at all. How about you join us? We were just heading out for a drink, right Ray?
Raymond: Ya…sure we were
Ron: Oh…well if you want me too
Tavia: Of course we do. Come on let’s go.
She quickly linked onto his arms while holding onto Raymond’s hand. Raymond didn’t really mind for he knew that Tavia and Ron were the closest of friends and nothing could possibly happen between them because if it did it would have happened a long time ago. Remembering that he left something in the change room he told them to go first and he’ll catch up with them later.
As the two of them continued to walk out of the school…
Ron: What’s going on?
Tavia: What do you mean?
Ron: Come on Tav…stop acting like there’s nothing
Tavia: I don’t know what you’re saying
Ron: Don’t lie…you know exactly what I mean. You know…you and Raymond
Tavia: what about us?
Ron: What about you? You wouldn’t ask me to join the two of you if there wasn’t something going on
Tavia: How come I can’t seem to hide anything from you?
Ron: Cause I can read you like a book after all the years we’ve known each other.
Tavia: Fine…I don’t like Raymond anymore…I have someone else on my mind…
Ron: You do? Well it’s better to end it early than let his feelings for you develop even more…
Tavia: Aren’t you going to ask me who it is?
Ron: Nope! Why should I? If you want to tell me you can.
From a distance a group of girls were walking there way all yelling Ron’s name and one of them came running right into his open arms.
Girl: Honey! That was amazing!
Ron smiled and kissed her on the forehead, he then looked at Tavia: I think I’ll leave you and Raymond alone…I’m kinda busy now.
Tavia: Fine…I guess I’ll just wait here for Raymond.
Ron: Bye Tav!
As soon as Ron walked away with his girlfriend Raymond came out of the school. He wrapped his arms around her waist from behind.
Raymond: Did you miss me?
Tavia: Not really (as she began to laugh)
Raymond now standing in front of her gave a little pout as she pinched his cheeks.
~End of Flashback~
On the other hand Leila was in the bathroom washing her hands unconsciously for almost 5 minutes thinking about what Ron had told her and how it could possibly help the police in finding him. But nothing came to mind that was useful enough. She knew that at that moment he needed someone to be there with him but there was no way they could possibly communicate with him. She stared blankly into the mirror and saw her own reflection; she could now see the worried look in her eyes as they slowly began to water. Was fate toying with her? In a couple of months she would become Mrs. Lam but now for some odd reason the whole-hearted love that she had for Raymond slowly diminished as another feeling started to grow. How could this possibly be happening? Then she heard a sound that finally woke her up from her thoughts…
~Missing for 24 hours~
One day had ended and another had begun. Ron was still no where to be found. Sitting in Sek Sau’s office were the same familiar faces of yesterday that longed to see the missing Ron Ng once again. Sitting on the couch and staring at the phone was Sek Sau who was waiting patiently for the culprits to make another move, another call to tell them about Ron’s whereabouts. But after waiting for several hours there was still no call.
~Police Headquarters~
Going through the files of twenty years ago to see if any of the cases were related to the cult was Moses and his subordinates. Twenty years ago there was not much technology thus, many of the files were still on paper rather than on the central computer. And even if they were on the computer due to several virus attacks of the previous years a lot of the older data were unable to be restored.
Kate: Sir! I believe there is something here about a man by the name of John Chiang
Moses walked over and picked up the folder that was still in Kate’s hands and began to read.
Moses: John Chiang, witness to a missing persons’ case of 1975. Occupation: construction worker. While at work the entire construction crew noticed odd noises. Almost sounded like little children. (he continued to skim through until he saw a familiar name) Eddy Ko…roommate of John Chiang at the time…
Interrupting Moses during his train of thought was Chief Inspector Bobby Au Yeung.
Bobby: How is the case coming along?
Moses: Senior Inspector Chan asked us to find out about cases that might be linked with a man by the name of John Chiang and if he was related to the ruthless cult that killed those who are imperfect Sir!
Bobby: I’d like to have a word with you in my office about this case
Moses: Yes Sir!
Following behind Bobby, Moses continued to read the file.
~Holanery Corp~
**Missing for 30 hours**
After waiting for 6 more hours everyone was beginning to become restless and even more worried. The kidnappers did not make a move as of yet, which could either say that Ron is still safe or that he had already died without their knowledge.
~John Chiang’s office~
He sat there looking out the window, this was getting more and more complicated he thought. Now that the police are involved and it seems like one of the inspectors are becoming suspicious of him his next move must be calculated intricately in order for him to save himself as well as get the money. If anything goes wrong both him and Eddy will be fleeing the country. He decided to call his son to come into his office.
~Knock knock~
John: Come in
Chris: You wanted to see me dad?
John: Ya…if you don’t mind can I borrow your phone for the rest of the day. My battery died out and I don’t want to waste anytime going to buy a new one, unless you’re waiting for an urgent call or whatnot.
Chris: No, that’s not a problem. Here (He hands his dad his phone) is there anything else? Or can I leave you here?
John: No that’s all.
Chris: Ok…then I guess I’ll get going.
He leaves his dad’s office looking quite confused of why his dad might want his phone but whatever the reason may be he didn’t care because after all it was his dad and he would never do anything to harm him.
After Chris had left the office John immediately made a call.
~On the phone~
John: Hello
Eddy: John?
John: There’s only 18 hours left and we need to make plans on how we’re going to get the money from him and then take the money out of the country.
Eddy: I’ll make a call to them after our conversation. But we have to talk about the destination and how they will be able to find Ron…unless you want to get rid of him as well. You know my son wouldn’t mind finishing the job.
John: You better not touch him
Eddy: Oh…really? Well then…I won’t…but if you ever change your mind…and you probably will…just let me know.
~Police headquarters~
Bobby: I am fully aware of the situation of this case. If you need extra help I can and will give you all the necessary manpower in order to solve the case. Do you understand?
Moses: Yes Sir!
Bobby: Now, as I have heard, this case is somehow linked to the murder of Vivien Yeo as well as the Merciless Cult. If this is the case we can no longer play the defensive role in this game. The life of a young man is now in our hands…his father one of the richest man will not be satisfied if he does not see his son back alive. This case not only affects the reputation of our police force but also if this is what it looks like we are looking for not 1 but rather 2 fugitives. One being the murderer of Vivien Yeo, the other being the man who escaped many years ago who had killed and buried 17 disfigured children.
Moses: But sir, how can you be so sure it is he that we are dealing with and not another member of the cult?
Bobby: Because this man, was the only man that was able to escape the police force. He somehow received the news that we were going to find him and he made his escape. These disfigured children were found buried in the fields near an abandoned warehouse.
Moses: Can this be linked to the kidnap of Ron Ng 20 years ago?
Bobby: According to the testimony of the psychiatrist this may be the case. Under these circumstances we must find the hostage before the time of the exchange or else the chance of survival for the hostage will become minuscule. Do you understand?
Moses: Yes Sir.
yes this is becoming more and more like a police detective type of story...but I guess this is the best way to wrap up the whole entire thing. Though this story won't be finished in the next couple of chapters about two thirds of the story is complete.
Now if you read this carefully and did not get lost with the transition from place to place then you would have realized that this chapter says nothing about what has happened to Ron.
So what do you think has happened?
What was that sound that Leila heard?
How will the police be able to find Ron?
Who will be the final couple?
Will it be Ron and Leila?
Or
Will it be Raymond and Leila?
Or
Will it be Ron and Tavia?
Or
Will it be Raymond and Tavia?
