He woke up to the sound of his cell phone ringing. That was his least favourite way of waking up in the morning. He answered the call and then rushed into the bathroom to get ready for work, put on some decent clothes and dashed out of his room. Sitting there reading the paper were his dad and his older brother.
Michael: What’s the hurry?
Ron: New case
Raymond chuckled: Second day as inspector and you already have your hands full.
Ron: I guess it’s my luck. Well I better get going, I might not be home till late at night so don’t wait for me dad.
Michael: When did I ever wait for you to come home?
Raymond: He just wanted to make it sound like you really care…and you just popped his bubble
Michael: Fine, I won’t wait for you son if you insist on not having me wait for you. And remember to invite Tavia over for dinner sometime.
Ron laughed: Sure dad. Bye
He got onto his car and drove to the scene of the crime. He parked his car against the curb of the road as he got out and walked towards the crime scene. He showed the police officer guarding the area his name badge and was automatically let in.
Chris: Sir, this man here reported the case
He walked over to the old man with the cane in his hand. Tears were running down his face as he was looking at the body of a dead young girl. Her clothes were tattered, and from the looks of things one can assume that there was a possibility of her being raped.
Ron: How did he find her body?
Chris: He said that he was taking his morning stroll until he came across her body in the alleyway.
Ron then looked at the old man.
Ron: Do you know this young lady?
The old man did not respond in words but rather nodded. Tears continued to stream down his face as he continued to stare that the deceased body.
Ron: How did you find her here?
Old man: I…I was walking home from my daily stroll…when I passed by the alleyway, I…I…I saw something…it looked like someone’s leg…so I walked over…and…
He couldn’t bear to continue telling the story; he was in too much pain and was traumatized from what he saw.
Ron: We will need to take you back to the station for a formal questioning sir, I know that you are suffering at the moment, but I can assure you that we will find the culprit who did this to her. Chris, if you don’t mind, can you escort the man back to the station to get a formal statement from him.
Chris: Yes sir.
Ron then walked over to where the dead body was, the forensic team was already there collecting the evidence. He walked over to the pathologist who was pre-examining the body.
Ron: Dr. Yeung.
Tavia: Inspector Lam.
Ron: How does it look at the moment?
Tavia: From the outside appearance, I can assume that there was physical violence involved, but whether or not she was raped, I need to do a more thorough examination in the lab to determine that.
Ron: Well, I’ll leave you alone then
He walked over to the rest of his team who were questioning the bystanders.
~ LSW Law Firm~
He was sitting there in his office going over the case that was due for court tomorrow until she marched in.
Woman: What’s this all about?
She slams a file folder on his desk.
Raymond: What are you talking about?
Woman: this case. I already told you that I’m not going to take it.
Raymond: Come on Myolie don’t act like that.
Myolie: How am I supposed to act? I already told you from the beginning that I would only accept cases that I feel comfortable working on
Raymond: You have to have a more professional attitude towards these things
Myolie: You’re telling me to be ‘more professional’? I’m not the one who sleeps around with my clients.
Raymond: What are you talking about?
Myolie: Don’t try to act innocent with me Raymond Lam. I know you just too well. We went to school together, we had the same mentor, and now we’re partners of the same law firm.
Raymond: You can accuse me all you want, but this better not get out or I will choose to hold you liable if my reputation gets tainted because of your slander.
Myolie: The truth will always be the truth and I will not take this case.
Raymond: I can’t take the case either; my hands are already full with all these other ones.
Myolie: Well then, get one of the solicitors to handle it then. It’s not a major case anyways, just a simple civil case, it won’t go to the higher courts. They should be able to handle it.
Raymond: Fine. You give it to one of them then.
Myolie: I will.
She stormed out of his office, walked over to one of the solicitors, and dropped off the folder.
Myolie: Natalie, since you have nothing on your hands right now, I want you to handle this case. Got it?
Before she even heard an answer she stormed away, walked into her office and slammed the door behind her.
He continued to look over his case while thinking about his partner’s reaction. She was always so hardheaded and quick tempered. He remembered how the only reason why they decided to have this law firm was because their mentor had immigrated and suggested that they take over the law firm and maybe even change the name to make it their own, on one condition which was to keep his last name in there somewhere.
~Police Station~
It was past his normal lunchtime when he went down to the canteen to get something to eat. He spotted her sitting there alone, munching away at her own lunch. He walked over and took a seat.
Ron: How come you’re all alone?
Tavia: How come you’re here all alone?
Ron: I’m not. You’re here with me.
She laughed at his response.
Tavia: So did you find out anything about the girl?
Ron: You know that old man who spotted her body? he’s her grandfather…
Tavia: It must be really hard on him
Ron: The only way to make him feel better is if we can catch that scoundrel who did that to her…
Tavia: About that…I’ll have the reports ready in a couple of weeks or so, since I do have other cases on my hands at the moment
Ron: Well the faster you get it done, the faster we’ll be able to arrest that scoundrel
Tavia: Are you going to get something to eat or are you going to sit here and continue to disturb me?
Ron: And to think I was keeping you company…
He pouted and walked away to get himself something to eat. Once he got his sandwich he walked right back over and took a seat.
Ron: Oh, I forgot to ask you to come over for dinner sometime. My dad seems to miss your presence.
Tavia: Of course he does. He has two sons and no daughters; I’m like the daughter he never had.
Ron: You ARE the daughter he doesn’t have.
She punched him on the arm: That was a figure of speech.
Ron: Well, I’ll leave you alone now…(he walked away slowly) you wild animal…(he then ran off)
She giggled at his childish behaviour and continued eating.
He was now sitting in his office eating until one of his subordinates knocked on the door.
Ron: Come in
Wayne: Sir, we’ve asked all of the victim’s friends and found out that she’s been going out with some guy by the name of Tiger, and he works for Lady Tong
Ron: I guess we’ll be paying her a visit then…
He walked out of his office along with Wayne and made his announcement.
Ron: I need a one of you to follow Wayne and I down to Club 69 to pay Lady Tong a visit, while the rest of you stay here. Actually… Selena, you’ll be coming with us while the rest of you stay here. Understand?
Subordinates: Yes Sir.
~Club 69~
It was only 4:30 pm when they got there and the place was quite empty.
Bartender: what can I get the three of you today?
Ron: Police. We’re here to do a little investigation, if you don’t mind can you get your boss out here to speak to us.
Before the bartender could even speak she already walked out.
Lady Tong: Ah, what can I help you with today officers?
Ron: I’m Inspector Lam, this is Sergeant Lai and Officer Li. Well, Ms. Tong, we were wondering if you know the whereabouts of Tiger?
Lady Tong: Just call me Leila. And this Tiger you’re referring to…do you happen to know his real name?
Ron: We only know him as Tiger.
Leila: Well then I guess I can’t help you there officer. But I can offer you a drink.
She walked over to him as she ran her fingers down his arm.
Ron: That’s not necessary Ms. Tong. We’ll be off now, thank you.
Leila: You can come back anytime Inspector Lam. You’ll always be welcome in my place. (She smiled at him and before he left she winked at him)
When they arrived back at the station, Ron was told that the Chief Inspector wanted to see him. He went over to his office and knocked on the door. He was then told to come in, and so he did.
Chief inspector: You’re working on the case of that girl?
Ron: Yes sir.
Chief inspector: Ah, you’ve been inspector for 2 days now, what do you think of your team?
Ron: I have a very capable team sir.
Chief inspector: Well, I would like to add onto your team, (he handed him a file folder that contained the information of one of the officers) Take a look.
He took the folder and went through the officer’s profile.
Chief Inspector: She’s a very capable young woman. I’m very confident that she will be a good addition to your team.
Ron: I hope she will be
Chief Inspector: Well then, she should have already received the letter to be transferred over to your team yesterday, so you should be seeing her tomorrow.
Ron: Yes Sir.
Chief Inspector: Now, with business aside. Ron, how’s your dad doing?
Ron: He’s fine sir.
Chief Inspector: Just call me Uncle Damian, I told you already that if we’re not talking about cases and confidential things, then it’s fine for you to call me uncle.
Ron: Ok…uncle
Damian: Now, the person who’s going to be transferred to your team is in fact a daughter of a friend of mine. I’ve watched her grown up and she’s a very intelligent young lady.
Ron chuckled: Is this business?
Damian: No. Well, not only is she very intelligent and capable, she’s also very pretty as well. Maybe if you have the time, you can pay a little more attention to her?
Ron: Are you trying to become a matchmaker now?
Damian: I’m only looking out for you.

That's the end of chapter one, so far 3 main female leads have been introduced, but I can guarantee you many more will come in.
How do you like Leila's character? or Tavia's?
At first I wanted Tavia to play the seductive female leader of the triad, but I thought that it would be kooler if she were to play a professional career oriented woman instead. And so I gave that role to Leila, and I can totally imagine her trying to seduce Ron the moment they meet. lol. Myolie's character is a bit of a b***ch, because I'm tired of watching Myolie play those nice pitiful roles, so I gave her some attitude.
In the following chapters, I will introduce Linda's character as well as Charmaine's character. How will the pairings be...well the poster can give you some ideas, but the poster is just a poster.
For this fanfic, i will go back and forth from Raymond's situation to Ron and vice versa. Since this chapter was mostly about Ron, the next will mostly be about Raymond.
