Bosco: Yo...look at that old man over there...the chick he’s with is smokin’ It’s so unfair how good lookin men like us get stuck with ordinary women. What’s up with that?
Ron: It’s simple. Good looking women usually end up with rich men. Even ugly rich men have pretty looking women...it’s because they feel that the pretty women they have around them would help them increase their self confidence. You’d probably ask why these pretty women would hang around old or ugly men...the answer is simple. Money. Pretty women are usually very smart or very dumb, but that actually wouldn’t matter. Smart pretty women would go for older men...thinking that they’d die quicker. Dumb pretty women would go for rich ugly men...since they see the money and that’s about it. As for good looking men, depending on their status, that’s the type of women that they would have around them. Even though we’re rich...we haven’t ‘matured’ nor have we inherited the family’s fortune...I guess we would just have to wait.
Bosco: You talk like you’re giving a freakin’ lecture. And what do you mean by ‘we’? Come on, your girlfriend is hot
Ron: She’s alright
Bosco: Alright? Dude, she’s gorgeous and plus she has you as her first priority, what more do you want?
Ron: I don’t know
Bosco: If you don’t want her...you know...you could always do a buddy a favour
Ron chuckled: Get your own woman, I love her...but sometimes...I just want a change...you know...see that one over there?
Bosco: The one in the skimpy clothing?
Ron: Ya...
Bosco: You’re gonna do her tonight?
Ron: Very likely...
Bosco chuckled: Be careful man...
Ron: Be careful? I always use necessary protection
Bosco: I mean...you might lose your real girlfriend if you keep this up
Ron: I know...but I don’t think she knows...right?
Bosco: But she’s a woman...she probably felt it
Ron: Anyways...I’m gonna go over there and test my luck
Bosco: Alrighty then...
He ended up spending the night at a five star hotel with the woman in the skimpy clothing. The next morning he went home to see his girlfriend, asleep on the coach. A guilty feeling surged through his body as he looked at her. She was beautiful in every single way. She was the type of women that all men dreamed of having by their side for she was perfect. She was smart, had a beautiful body, and most importantly was very independent. But not to the point where it would seem as though she did not need him. He continued to stare at her for a bit longer until he noticed that she had started to wake up.
Quickly walking towards his room, his movement was caught by her eyes.
Tavia: Ron? What time is it?
Ron: Five in the morning?
With that reply she knew exactly where he was the night before, probably with another woman. She wasn’t blinded by love and not see that he had been cheating on her, no, she knew, yet she didn’t want to do anything about it since she hoped that he would learn not to repeat his mistakes again. But to her dismay, he didn’t. She was now tired, tired of waiting for him to come home, tired of smelling the reeking smell of alcohol on his body, and she was tired of waiting for him to change.
Tavia: Ron...let’s talk
He didn’t know what exactly she wanted to talk about, but he knew she had figured it out.
Ron: Sure (he walked over and sat beside her)
Tavia: We’ve been together for...
Ron: 785 days and...looking at the time 8 hours, 23 minutes and, 30...31...seconds
Tavia was shocked at what he had just said...why, why would he remember such a thing when he’s always out, with another woman.
Tavia: How did you...
Ron: it’s five days until our two year anniversary
She couldn’t understand why he would remember such a thing if he was the one who’s been hurting her all this time. If he loved her, then he would’ve changed, but he didn’t.
Tavia: I can’t believe you remember
Ron: Of course I do...
His words were melting her heart as she wanted to give in and just be embraced within his arms. His charming smile was now making her want to smile, but she had to stay strong, for she no longer wanted to wait for him.
Tavia: I think...we should end our relationship...
Ron was shocked by her words, he realized that she had figured out that he had been cheating on her, and that this was the consequence that he had to face. But why now? He didn’t understand.
Ron: Why?
Tavia: Because I know that you’ve been cheating on me, all this time...
Ron saw her eyes become watery
Ron: But why now Tavia? Why not a year ago?
Tavia looked at him, with a tear now trickling down her flawless face. His words sounded so cold and it made her ache inside.
Tavia: So...you mean...you wanted me to end our relationship before? So...you never loved me.
She couldn’t bear to hear his answer, but she had to.
Ron: No...I always loved you, but why couldn’t you end it before when I didn’t love you as deeply as I love you now?
She didn’t understand, everything he’s saying, and everything that he has done seems to be contradicting.
Tavia: You say you love me, yet you sleep around with other women? Why is that Ron? Why?
Ron: I...I don’t know. Maybe I want a change, maybe I wanted to show off...or maybe I just wanted to test your tolerance. I don’t know.
Tavia: Well then I think you’ve succeeded, I’ve had enough.
Ron: Tavia...I love you...I really do...
Tavia: No Ron...you don’t. Cause if you do, if you even did, you wouldn’t have hurt me like you did today...
Ron: Sorry...I...
Tavia was now crying...she couldn’t hold in her tears, it was impossible. Truly, it was. He wanted to hold her and embrace her in his arms as she cried, but feared that it would only make the situation become worse. In the end, he did, he embraced her as she cried. A couple of minutes later she pushed him away...she looked directly into his dark brown eyes that once filled her with so much warmth, love and passion and now all she can sense out of it was regret.
Ron: You still love me, don’t you?
Tavia: Does it matter? I’ve always loved...yet...you...
Ron: I know...I’ve hurt you too many times...I don’t know what I can do to make it up to you
Tavia: There’s nothing you can do to make up for all the pain you’ve caused me...its better if we part our ways. I’ll be moving out...and...
Ron: You don’t have to move...I’ll go...
Tavia: No...This place leaves me with too many sad memories...
Ron: Oh...I guess...we can still be friends?
She wanted to say yes, but she knew that seeing him again would only make her remember all the moments they’ve ever shared together, and of course make her remember all the nights she stayed up waiting for him to come home.
Tavia: I don’t know...I highly doubt it...but you never really know what the future has for us
Ron: So is this the end? What if I told you that I can change?
Tavia: What if...what if you never slept with those women...what if...you loved me whole-heartedly...maybe we could’ve stayed together...but no...so this is the end Ron...the end of our relationship...the end of what could have been something beautiful...
She got up and went to her room...leaving him sitting there...moments later she came back out with her luggage.
Tavia: I’ll come back for the other things some other time
Ron: Where are you going to go?
Tavia: You might think that I’m dependent on you, but I’m not. I have a family that truly cares about me and loves me...
Ron: I didn’t mean it like that...
He could tell by the tone of her voice that she was no longer the Tavia that he had originally dated, but a different person. She was stronger than before, and he knew...this was because of him.
Ron: Do you need a ride?
Tavia: I already called the cab...bye...
~Present 2008~
Professor: I called your office last month asking your secretary if you were able to come in for today’s lecture, and she told me you were in Miami.
Ron: I went there...to do a little surfing...
Professor: Right...and now you’re back. I think my students would love hearing you speak, especially the females...since...the name Ron Ng is accompanied by good looks and money
Ron let out a laugh: Thanks for the compliment professor...so your class will be starting in 15 minutes...does your students even know that they have a guest speaker coming in?
Professor: Oh no...That would ruin the element of surprise. You see, you’re a very talented young man, you finished law school when you were only 20...most of my students are in fact around your age...and none of them have shown me the type of attitude you showed me when you were 20
Ron: I was young, arrogant, and of course somewhat intelligent...you moulded me into...the person I am today...I really have to thank you...uncle...
Professor: Well...enough of this...I think you should save some energy to speak to the law students today...
~start of lecture~
Professor: Ok class...I know you are all final year law students, waiting to graduate and of course get a placement at your desired places. As your professor I have invited a former student of mine, who you should have all heard of before today. Please give my former student your utmost attention
The class of about twenty odd students were silent as the door slowly opened and in came a young good looking man, who looked about their age. They all knew who it was...Ron Ng. He heard a couple of whispers as he walked over to the podium
Ron: Morning...for those of you who have never seen me before, I’m Ron Ng. If you think that I graduated and finished school 8 years ago because my dad has money and your professor is my uncle, then you’re wrong. I finished school 8 years ago because I’m one smart jackass. And if any one of you think that you can outsmart me with your little chuckles and whispers, then let’s take this outside, and I do not mean that we’ll have a fist fight, no, we’ll have a debate that will be broadcasted internationally because I have made enough money over the course of 8 years to spend it.
All the giggles and whispers disappeared as everyone was silent, staring at the young man who stood before them.
Ron: Now with the introduction out of the way, let me start by saying this...I am very honoured to stand here and talk about how it is in the real world. As you all know I am a lawyer, not much older than you, but I have had 8 years of work experience to say that I’m a lot wiser. I was in your seats years ago...thinking...I’ll be done with this and then move on with my life. But no, you learn things every day. You may think that the millions of precedents set in your textbook are like the lines in the bible...but in fact they’re not. New ones are added as we speak, yes, law is an ever growing thing and we must continue to learn in order to keep up with it. Wow...I think I sounded like Professor Mui over here. Anyways...I don’t really know what to talk about so I guess I should start taking questions...then maybe we’ll have a nice long discussion.
The room was still silent until he saw someone raise their hand.
Ron: Yes, you...with the raised hand
Woman: Do you have a girlfriend?
Ron: Wow...I would never imagine a class filled with law students to ask me such a question but I’ll answer you anyways. The answer is no. But, that doesn’t mean by the end of today I wouldn’t have a girlfriend...
She blushed hearing his words...then another student raised their hand
Ron: Yes?
Guy: If your father is so rich, and his business is going so well...why didn’t go into business?
Ron: Ah...yes...the question that half the world has asked me before. And my answer to you is because...I do have an undergraduate degree in business...I did a dual degree before going into law school. But nobody knows that...until now...
Guy: What has been your most interesting case?
Ron: Most interesting case...it definitely has to be the one related to the inheritance of about a billion dollars or so. What was so interesting was that the wife of the deceased, who was 85 years old, was about our age. It was funny how she came to me weeping about how her son, who was twice as old as she was at the time, said that the will leaving her with half of the billion dollar was fake. What was so interesting about that case was in fact, that will was fake, and the original will actually left her with three quarters of the billion, and the fake will was made by the son. In the end, she got the money...and we...that’s part of a different story
He heard a couple of the guys sitting in the back snickering...
Ron: No...I did not sleep with my client if that’s what you’re snickering about. Though, she was quite hot, don’t get me wrong. But none the less, she was widowed and my client and it is against everything I believe in to sleep with my client.
Woman: Are you going to accept interns?
Ron: That’s a good question, I’ve never thought about it before, but I’ll most likely discuss it with the professor to see whether or not I have enough experience to bring a newly graduated student on board. After all, I’m only about your age, but for you specifically, I think I’m a tad bit older.
Professor Mui (Michael): Anyone have any other questions before our guest speaker here runs off to who knows where?
Ron: Just because I was in Miami last month, doesn’t mean I’ll be flying off to anywhere soon.
Michael: How would I know? So...any questions?
Guy: I know I’ve heard your name before and all, but I was just wondering, are you like into criminal law or are you more corporate?
Ron: I started off doing criminal law, I worked for the government for a while, helping out with the legal aid, now I’m working at a law firm and recently my dad asked me to join his company as a legal consultant, but I still have to reconsider whether or not I want to enter that business world.
After answering the question, he looked down at his 6 years old watch and realized that it was time for him to go.
Ron: Sorry professor, I have a meeting back at my firm in about half an hour, I better get going.
Professor: Sure thing, everyone please put your hands together for Ron Ng, our very young guest speaker.
