Chapter 2

Opportunity

Howdy folks...so it's been a bit over a week I think since I last updated and I've been working on this chapter for a while now. I'm really liking the many ideas I have for this story...I've been reading some of your comments and I'll try my best to incorporate what you want and also what I have in mind for this fanfic.

In this chapter you're going to find a bit more about Ron and of course...two new characters are added into the story, well for this chapter. I think the next chapter will be quite exciting and you'll understand why. So...enjoy =D

================================================

As soon as Ron left the small lecture hall the applause also stopped and chattering began. For a last year law class, they were quite the chatty bunch, well, being social is actually one of the many necessary characteristics for those who will one day become lawyers.

Michael: Settle down now. So...you’ve heard from my former student who I know appears to be a jerk, his words seem somewhat harsh and in a way flirtatious with a sense of sarcasm, he does mean well. I’ve known him since a long time ago...before he was born actually...which you would probably have already realized from the beginning, that THE Ron Ng and I are related. I guess today’s lecture is almost over. I never thought that a little speech from Ron would take too long, but I guess I underestimated his ability to captivate his audience and of course your interest in what he has to say. I guess I could dismiss you now, since there are only 5 minutes left...and all of you still have your papers to write and applications to fill out...so...out you go

The twenty odd students got up from their seats and walked out of the small lecture hall, one by one passed professor Mui and said their goodbyes until the very last student which he asked to stay back.

Michael: Leila, can you come to my office in about, an hour or so...I need to talk to you about something

Leila: Sure professor

Leila Tong the student that was able to earn the highest mark in his class and who was also very intelligent and capable. Her words sometimes had very sharp edges that was able to pierce through people, and this was exactly Michael liked about her. A very frank personality and an elegant smile made her the most liked and most hated person by her peers, and of course professor Mui’s favourite student.

Michael went back to his office and made a call to Ron. At that moment Ron was driving his car back to the office.

~on the phone~

Ron: Hello?

Michael: Ron...it’s

Ron: Hi there professor, or would you like me to call you uncle?

Michael chuckled: Uncle would be fine

Ron: Is there something you’d like to ask me?

Michael: how did you know?

Ron: It made sense; I left your place like 5 minutes ago, why else would you call? And besides you probably want to have your best student under my wings for a year

Michael: You haven’t changed a bit...always jumping into people’s mouths

Ron: I don’t jump into your mouth, I read your mind...you’re basically a very predictable person uncle

Michael: Is that how you got almost a perfect mark on your exam?

Ron chuckled: I still can’t believe I made that one mistake...you do realize it has become one of those things that really do prick at me once in a while

Michael: Well I’m glad it does...make you understand that you are not THAT smart. Anyways, back to the interim, I have a student in mind...and yes, you will hire her

Ron: If my uncle says so...

Michael: Good...well, since that’s settled, I guess I’ll leave you alone then

Ron: All right, bye

~Michael’s office~

He just hung up the phone as he opened some old picture files on his laptop. A smile appeared as he saw a picture of his entire family. He missed those good old days when his older sister, which was Ron’s mother, was still alive. She died 15 years ago as a result breast cancer. Ever since her death her husband had dated several women who were much younger than he was, and five years ago he had married another woman. Michael, who eventually felt that he was no longer belonged to the family that he once truly belonged to, decided to move out. While looking through the old photographs that Ron had scanned and sent to him, he heard a knock on the door.

He got up and walked over to open the door and there stood his student, Leila Tong.

Michael looked down at his watch then at her: You’re right on time

Leila smiled and he told her to come in and take a seat.

Michael: What did you think of Ron’s little speech?

Leila: He’s a pretty horrible motivational speaker

Michael chuckled: I can agree with you on that one...Leila...you do realize that you are my top student this year and I was wondering, no, I’m insisting that you take the offer that I will be offering you

Leila: It depends what it is...

Michael: I want you to be Ron’s interim

Leila: What? Me? Working for him?

Michael: You don’t sound too happy with the request and or offer

Leila: To be honest with you professor, and I know that I shouldn’t have said those few words I just did, but, I don’t like people like Ron Ng. I don’t like rich and arrogant and...

Michael: Good looking?

Leila: Yes...those types of men...they’re too much for me

Michael chuckled: That’s good, if you’re able to face someone like Ron who is basically an extreme of all of those characteristics that you despise in men, then you should be amazing as a lawyer. Once you’re there, you can’t try to be one of those ‘righteous’ lawyers who pick and choose their clients. Those types are only found in movies, dramas and of course literature. This is reality Leila; you sometimes have to work with people you dislike, and only through the many encounters will you be able to better yourself

Leila: But...

Michael: I insist that you take this offer and this opportunity to head start your career in law

Leila: Ok...I’ll take the offer

Michael: Good...now as for application all I need from you is your resume and...

Leila: But wait...

Michael: What’s the problem now?

Leila: Ron takes care of criminal law but...

Michael: Not a problem... I have a feeling he’ll be switching over to corporate very soon

Leila: How do you...never mind...so what exactly do I need to do?

Michael: Prepare and nicely written cover letter and resume, I will write your letter of recommendation and of course let Ron read over your final paper

Leila: He’ll be reading my final paper...

Michael: Is there a problem with that?

Leila: Oh no...is that all professor?

Michael: I think so...remember, your paper is due by the end of the month

Leila: I guess I’ll get going now...bye professor

She got up and left his office.

~ W & R Law Firm~

Ron had just gotten back to the law firm when he was told by one of the secretaries that there was a Mr. Ng waiting for him in his office. He opened the door and looked at the man wearing the sunglasses in doors.

Ron: What brings you here Mr. Ng?

Mr. Ng: Can’t I come over to take a look at my little brother?

Ron: I guess you can Francis, so...it’s been a month since I’ve seen you?

Francis: Dad was worried that you got yourself into trouble

Ron: the worse I can do is getting someone pregnant...

Francis: I guess that’s true...so...did you think about what dad and I proposed, about you coming over and helping the family business?

Ron: You make it sound SO tempting

Francis laughed: I know you don’t get along with dad these days, and I know you don’t like some of the things he does...but

Ron: He’s still our father and blood is thicker than water...yes...I understand that, which is why I already typed up this letter telling the firm that starting next month I’ll no longer work here

Francis smiled: Finally you come through...

Ron: I’m only doing this for you...you’ve been more of a father to me than our dad

Francis: That’s one of the many disadvantages of being 15 years older than you

Ron: Anyways...how’s sister in law? Get her pregnant yet?

Francis: She’s good...and no...she’s not pregnant...

Ron: It’s probably because you two are only a couple for the outside world to see...and to satisfy or dad and her dad

Francis: That’s not true...I love Jessica very much...

Ron: What about...what’s her name...Margaret, Mary?

Francis: Maggie

Ron: See...you still remember her after all of these years...

Francis: We weren’t meant to be...

Ron: It’s so funny how our dad can date and marry whomever he wants, yet he forced you into marrying sister in law

Francis: He didn’t force me...

Ron: Of course he didn’t...he asked you nicely and you agreed for it was the best decision for the company

Francis: Unlike you, I care about dad and our company, and I do love Jessica

Ron: Right...anyways, look at the time; I have a meeting, tell dad I might come home tonight...bye

He got off of his seat and walked out of his office leaving his older brother sitting there. Ron was always rebellious, well that would be exaggerating the truth. It was more like he became rebellious after their mother had passed away and no one really had the time to watch over him. Their dad was busy working, Francis was always at the company giving their dad a hand, his mother had passed away and of course, Ron was a bright kid. He knew a lot of things, he disliked a lot of things and he was dubbed as a prodigy with his eloquent speech. A year after their mother passed away Ron was sent away to study and once he returned...he became more rebellious than before.

~Conference Room~

Rebecca: So...today’s meeting we’ll be discussing...

Ron: Before we actually begin, can I say something first?

Rebecca: Ok...go ahead

Ron: I’ve been working here for a couple of years and everyone has treated me so well that it’s somewhat hard for me to say that starting next month I won’t be part of this wonderful family anymore.

Waise: What?

Ron: Thank you Waise and Rebecca for guiding me these few years, but I think it’s time for me to go back and help out my family business. I won’t stop being a lawyer...in fact my dad asked me to become the company’s legal consultant...so...

Rebecca: There’s nothing we can say to stop you from leaving right?

Ron shook his head: I don’t think so; I’ve typed up the letter and everything...

Waise: If that’s the case, we can only wish you the best of luck and if at any time you’re bored of being a legal consultant, you’re definitely welcome to rejoin this firm

Ron: Thanks

Rebecca: We’ll all miss you...especially our female staff who I think are starting to get a little emotional

Ron smiled: I’ll definitely miss all of you beautiful women who brighten up my day, everyday...but I’m not gone yet right? I still have the rest of this month...

~One month later~

Ron walked into the 20 storey building that was owned by his family. Their company alone occupied at least 8 of the available 20 floors. He stepped into the elevator and already he heard the employees whispering about the young master who is coming in to probably fool around. The majority of the employees have never seen Ron other than on the cover of magazines for appearing with celebrities and Ron himself have never met the majority of the employees. Arriving on the top most floor, which was where his dad and brother’s office were, he stepped out of the elevator along with a young lady, who he had never seen before.

Ron walked over to the front desk, which apparently was where that young lady he had seen in the elevator sat.

Ron: Hi there...is Mr. Ng in yet?

Young Lady: Mr. Ng senior or junior, well actually from today onwards there will be 2 Mr. Ng junior

Ron chuckled: Either one would be fine

Young Lady: Well, Mr. Ng junior, is here...

Ron: Thanks...I’ll go find him...

Young Lady: Sir, I think I should call him to make sure he’s ok with you coming into his office

Ron smiled: I don’t find that necessary, you see I’m the second Mr. Ng junior, I’m Ron Ng

Young Lady: Mr. Ng, I’m sorry, I wasn’t told that you would come at this hour...so I...

Ron: It’s ok, I’m not going to make a mountain out of a mole hill with a little misunderstanding anyways, and besides, you’re too pretty to upset me

The young lady blushed at his words

Ron: I still don’t know your name yet...Ms...

Young Lady: Oh right, I forgot to tell you my name, I’m Nancy Wu, you can call me Nancy

Ron: Got it...so...I can go find my brother now?

Nancy: Of course Mr. Ng

Ron walked away and then turned back and smiled at her: Just call me Ron

Arriving at Francis’ office, Ron knocked once and allowed himself in. His brother, half expecting him to show up was quite pleased to see him.

Francis: Little Master has returned

Ron chuckled: Shouldn’t you be afraid that I’ll take over your throne?

Francis: Of course, but, I know you too well...my throne means very little time for you to flirt around and travel, two of the most important things in your life...

Ron: True...So...where will I be situated? Do you have my office ready? Ocean view? Pretty secretary? I wouldn’t mind that Nancy at the front desk...unless...there’s someone who’s much prettier

Francis laughed: One of the many similarities you share with dad...

Ron: I’m a guy, I love pretty woman...I don’t think there’s ever a problem with that...it’s not like I’m telling you I want a handsome man as my secretary

Francis: Well...we’ve decided to have your office on the 18th floor...it was dad’s idea...but I need to tell you something...you know how you moved out after you found a job and you started to live with your girlfriend and stuff like that and how dad doesn’t really know...well...Tavia’s also
on the 18th floor.

Ron looked down at his watch before looking at his brother: Tavia?

Francis: Ya...dad...

Ron: He could’ve cared less about me...but...Tavia? I haven’t seen her...

Francis: Ever since the two of you broke up...Tavia’s a really nice girl...and very hard working

Ron: When did she start working here?

Francis: 3 years ago...apparently after breaking up with you she finished off her business degree and applied for a job at several companies, none of them hired her because she was inexperienced, but when she came here and I saw her name...

Ron: You hired her...

Francis nodded: It was the least I can do to help her out...I think she needed something to get her mind off of your break up...

Ron: I know...it was all my fault...

===================================

So there it is, the second chapter to my newest fanfic. I'm really anticipating the next chapter since it will be the chapter when Ron and Tavia will once again see each other, I haven't yet thought of how it's going to unravel, but you'll see when it's updated.

Previously when I updated Tired of Being Sorry, I've added quite a few Ron and Linda scenes just because, I really think they have some chemistry together. And so...the announcement will be that...Linda will be part of probably one or two chapters in this story...and I think as much as some people would frown to this mini announcement, you'll find what happens between Ron and Linda to be very entertaining and interesting.

Wow...I think I've given away a mini spoiler there...

anyways...please leave me a comment or multiple comments and if you haven't already checked out the updated chapter on Tired of Being Sorry...you can also do

SO...6 comments or more before an update ( I don't even know how many comments I got last time...but I'll try to keep count)

RANDOMNESS...OUT!

ps if there are any typos...I'm sorry
