Enough about me...enjoy the chapter =D
========================================
A few days had past after their elevator incident and since then Ron did not have the opportunity to have a conversation with Tavia that would last more than a few seconds. He felt as though she was avoiding him, not only him entirely, but even his gaze. It felt as though...his words had started to break down the wall that she had formed around her heart as a way to not let herself get hurt again.
Ron was sitting at his desk, in his office, chair turned so that he could look out his window to the lovely view of the harbour that was in front of him. It looked like a lovely day...in fact the weather was perfect...
~Flashback~
Ron was walking towards the harbour for his girlfriend had asked him to wait for her there. When he arrived, she was already there...looking out to the open water...the breeze making its wait through her hair...he saw a lovely smile on her face as she looked up to the sky. Ron also looked up to see a sky filled with wonderful white fluffy clouds...he continued to walk over to her...and stood there...behind her, watching her enjoy herself. She finally turned around to see him, a look of excitement and contentment was plastered on her face. He couldn’t help but smile...
Tavia: Don’t you think it’s such a nice day today?
Ron nodded: It’s amazing
Tavia: I think it’s because today is a special day...
Ron: Special?
The look of contentment on her face seemed to have diminished a bit as she gave Ron a more serious look...
Tavia: You don’t know what day it is today?
Ron: Maybe I do, maybe I don’t...
Tavia: Ron Ng...
Ron smiled: Of course I know what day it is...it’s your birthday
Tavia smiled: so...you do remember...
Ron: Of course I do...how could I possibly forget such an important day of the year? And besides, what type of boyfriend would I be if I forgot. I love you just too much to forget such an important date.
Tavia smiled and hugged him: I feel like the luckiest person to have someone like you...
~End of flashback~
Ron didn’t want to stop reminiscing about the past, but a knock on his door distracted him from such a wonderful memory. He turned his chair around to see who was at the door...and motioned the person to come in...
Ron: How exactly can I help you...my little interim?
Leila looked at him: The other employees asked me if you’d like to pitch in to buy Ms. Yeung a gift...since tomorrow is her birthday...
Ron: Tomorrow? Really?
Leila nodded: Did you think I was broke and thought I’d get money off of you by making up an excuse like that...since you have a thing for Ms. Yeung?
Ron laughed: You don’t have to be so...what’s that word...oh never mind...
Leila: Is that a yes?
Ron: Wait... (He looked at his calendar to see what tomorrow’s date was...) Ya...it’s a yes...
Leila: Great...after the others get the gift...we’ll right you down for whatever fraction of the cost...you’ll owe them. And...Remember...since you verbally agreed...it is just as legal binding as if you were to right down your agreement.
Ron smiled: Yes...I think I’m the one with a law degree here...
Leila slightly blushed and went out, closing the door behind her.
Once again Ron turned his chair to face the amazing view...but now his mind was not going to reminisce but rather think of what to get Tavia for her birthday. Unlike the other ladies Ron had had the pleasure to be with...Tavia was different. She didn’t like expensive gifts...she didn’t think those things were necessary...she wanted something from the heart...something to make her smile from the inside out... What to get her?
All of a sudden the perfect gift came to him. A smile suddenly appeared on his face as he got up from his chair, and ran out of his office. He was excited...not only will she like his gift...but it’ll give him the opportunity to tell her things that...she would otherwise not listen to.
As he ran out of his office and headed towards the elevator...he saw her also heading to the elevator.
Ron: Hi
Tavia: Hi
The smile on his face was still there, the feeling of euphoria surged through his body like a boost of energy.
Tavia didn’t know exactly why he was so happy...but his happiness was contagious...as it always was, so she couldn’t help but smile as well.
Ron then looked at her...she was smiling...something that he hadn’t seen in a long time...the smile on her face made him feel as if he was floating on a cloud.
Ron: I haven’t seen you smile in a while...
Tavia’s smile seemed to disappear after what he said
Tavia: I wasn’t smiling...
Ron: Oh...I guess...I was seeing things then...but...I always thought that you looked so radiant when you smile...
Tavia: Words from a man who doesn’t remember the names of half the women he slept with can’t be trusted...
Ron: But you can trust the words coming from a man who has loved you and will continue to love you...
Tavia: But if that man was the man that broke your heart...I don’t think his words are trustworthy...
~Ding! ~
The elevator had stopped at the Main floor and the both of them got off. What Tavia said to him in the elevator, did not make him feel miserable this time. Maybe, he was becoming immune to her bitterness towards him, or maybe the only thought that was truly on his mind what he will be doing to make her happy on her birthday.
Tavia didn’t know why...but for some very strange reason...she wondered if he had remembered that tomorrow would be her birthday. That giddy look on his face reminded her of how he used to look when he was planning something special...and she secretly hoped that whatever he was planning was for her...
Even though the way she acts towards him was cold and the things she said were bitter, he still had a place in her broken heart. A heart that now had a wall surrounding it, one that could not be broken down...or so that was what she truly believed...
About an hour or so later, Ron had arrived back at the office with a bag in his hands filled with various things. When Ron had gotten to his office, many of the employees had a look of curiosity on their faces as they wondered where Ron had gone earlier.
Even though Ron had bought everything that was necessary for him to make the perfect gift for Tavia...he did not want to work on it until it was after working hours. He knew the others would wonder, and then they would gossip if he was working on something like that. So instead of working on the present, Ron did what he was supposed to...he read the many documents and drafted legal documents for the company.
Right at five there was a knock on his door and in came Leila.
Ron: It’s time for you to go home now...isn’t it?
Leila: You’re right...but...
Ron: But?
Leila: Um...nothing...I guess I’ll see you tomorrow
Ron: Bye
Ron had always found his interim to be quite strange. Opinionated and quick-witted as she was...he found her to be too righteous to be a lawyer; to curious to be a lawyer and most importantly...she could sometimes get emotionally carried away. Lawyers like doctors are not supposed to get attached to their clients...it’s something that is not supposed to happen...for it ultimately does not work out. Ron knew that...and knew it well...
When the office had become empty...with everyone gone...Ron took out the things he bought and started working on his gift for Tavia. From the bag he took out the stack of coloured square papers for him to use. It had been a long time since he did origami.
~Flashback ~
They were walking along the busy streets and had just passed by one of those little toy shops filled with stuffed animals and such when Tavia had let go of his hand. Ron immediately turned to see what had attracted his girlfriend so much to have done so, and noticed that she was glued to the window of the shop they had just passed. Walking back to his girlfriend, he realized what her eyes were glued upon were not the stuffed animals in the shop but the works of origami. She stared at the jars filled with stars, the bouquets of flowers; each folded by hand...and was in complete amazement.
Ron: You seem to like this stuff more than me
Tavia smiled: Well...I would like you even more than I like these...if you learned how to fold them for me
Ron chuckled: You want me...to learn origami?
Tavia: Why not...I think it’s cute...
Just because of what she said...he learned how to fold the numerous things that were behind the glass window that attracted his beautiful girlfriend...for, he only wanted to see her smile and her eyes light up just like they had at that moment.
~ End of flashback~
Ron didn’t realize how rusty his skills had been until he heard his stomach growl and realized that it had already been 8 o’clock and he had only done half a bouquet. He was about to take a break when he heard some rustling in the office. Wondering who it was, he quickly went to open his door and took a peek. He soon realized who the person was...and silently went out and tapped her shoulder. She jumped in horror as Ron stood there laughing.
Ron (laughing): What are you doing here?
Leila: Why are you still here?
Ron smiled: Well...I knew you were going to come back so...I thought I’d hide myself and scare you...what do you think? I obviously had work to do...
Leila: Really?
Then she heard his stomach growl and realized he had eaten yet...
Ron: Um...that was me...if you didn’t realize...do you know if there are any cup noodles in the little coffee room we have?
Leila: Cup noodles aren’t good for you...
Ron: I sort of know that...but...I’m also kind of busy...unless...you want to go out there and buy me something to eat...
Leila: I guess I could...
Ron smiled: That’s great...thanks...I’ll be in my office
Leila: Hey! Wait
Ron turned around: Ya?
Leila: What do you want?
Ron: You pick...thanks...wait!
Leila: What is it?
Ron looked at her and smile: If I didn’t know any better and was truly an egotistical maniac I would say that you came back to see if I was still here cause you obviously have a crush on me
Leila: I guess you don’t want anything to eat after all. Well...I’m going to leave now...
Ron chuckled: Come on...Leila...I’m starving here....just get me something to eat...please?
About twenty or so minutes later Leila had came back with two bags in her hands and walked straight into Ron’s office. When she saw what he was actually doing she couldn’t help but ask.
Leila: What exactly are you doing?
Ron: Can’t you tell...it’s origami...and I thought all girls know about origami
Leila looked slightly confused: I know it’s origami...but what?
Ron chuckled: Are you going to starve me by standing there interrogating me...or...you could give me the food...and I’ll think about answering you...
Leila gave him the bags filled with various types of food...while Leila took a seat and watched him eat. She realized she hadn’t bought him a drink so she went into the little coffee room and made him a coffee instead.
As she came back Ron was finishing up the things she had bought him and was watching her walk towards his office...
Leila: Have a coffee
Ron smiled: Thanks...I guess since you did get me some food and all...I’ll tell you a little secret...
Leila: A secret?
Ron nodded: I’m actually making a bouquet of flowers for Tavia...since you reminded me earlier that tomorrow would be her birthday
Leila: Oh...so you have a thing for her...
Ron: You could say that...
And then he told her...he told her his story...his broken love story...while finishing off the bouquet
Ron: That’s what happened...
Leila: I don’t get it...if you love her so much...then why?
Ron: I sometimes ask myself that too...but...I still don’t know exactly why...or how I could even do such things to hurt the woman I love so much...I’m such a jerk...
Leila: you are...
Ron looked at her: Thanks...for the confirmation...
Leila smiled: No problem...
Ron then handed her a pink rose that he had just finished folding
Leila: What’s this for?
Ron: to thank you...for keeping me company...you’re not a little feisty...lady after all...no offense...but good people like you shouldn’t go into law...you might get carried away...and regret certain things you do...
Leila smiled: Thanks for the advice...but...this is the path I chose...and it’ll be the one I’ll continue to walk on...
Ron looked at his old watch: It’s getting late...let me put this bouquet and the card in Tavia’s office, and I’ll drive you home...
Leila: I don’t think I can get used to you being a nice person
Ron laughed: Well don’t...cause I’m not
==========================================
This is one of my personal favourite chapters...there will definitely be more flashbacks in later chapters as well as more Ron and Leila scenes...
There are plenty of cute moments waiting to be put on paper in my head...I really can't wait to continue writing...hopefully I'll be able to finish this fanfic in July or so...along with Take 2 and then I'll be starting with a brand new fanfic. My newest fanfic would most likely be a comedy...so...keep an eye open for it...
Anyways...I hope you enjoyed this chapter because I definitely had a blast writing it...I think it's one of the longer ones since it's really delayed...and ya...
Thanks for reading...and please comment...I'm just asking for 5 or more and there will be an update next week...if I get the number I requested for. I'll actually start writing Ch 10 after I click submit lol.
