Chapter 2

Taming Of The Princess

~~“爱一个人,是处处为她着想, 不管自己有多痛苦,只要对方开心,幸福,无论做什么,都是值得的。。。”~~(Loving a person, is to put her interests on top of anything else, no matter how much oneself may be suffering, if she is happy, fortunate, anything is worth the pain…)

"Mr. Lam, this is the file you requested." Maggie said with a stable voice as she passes the file to Bowie.

"Thanks. Lunch today? My treat." He invited her smilingly.

"Sure. I'll make a reservation now." She went out of his office.

Sitting smilingly at her desk, she took out a photo within her favorite comic, "Doraemon". Staring at how cheery Bowie was in the photo just made her smiled even brighter.

"Ah Yee!" A voice from behind startled her and she dropped her photo on the ground.

"Hey, give that back to me!" Maggie spoke up anxiously.

"No! Let me have a look!" Louis playfully picked up the photo, teasing her. "This photo again? Aren't you tired of scrutinizing the same old photo for 2 years? Just tell him you like him, sis!"

"Don't be such a busybody and get back to your work, Mr. Koo!"

"I think I'll better think of a way to break the news to him." He traces his chin with his fingers, while Maggie gave him a shove.

"Biu Gor! I'll handle this myself, ok? Please!" She begs desperately. He shrugs his shoulders dismissively and walked away.

"Gallen, we're in trouble! The yearly reports are all messed up! And the financial assess for last year! The numbers are all mixed up!" Moses shoots his mouth off the moment he enters Gallen's office.

Gallen stood up. "What happened exactly?"

Moses heaved a heavy sigh. "Ask your dear Lou Po!"

"Flora? What had she done this time?" He tried to be patient.

"Ask her yourself, I've asked her to come in." Moses almost lost his temper. "There she is."

Flora enters the room and closes the door after them. The two of them looked at her without moving their eyes, waiting for her explanation.

"Sorry I mixed up the statistics..." Flora lowered her head and spoke slowly.

"A 'Sorry' can't make up for everything! Now we have to clear up the mess, and we must hold all the orders for the time being, do you know how much losses we are going to incur? I can't figure out how you can graduate in the first place!" Moses butted in and scolded.

Flora's eyes turned wet and red, sniffing guilty. "Sorry... I didn't mean it..."

At this moment, Gallen threw a quick signal to Moses who was preparing to open his mouth again. He walked towards Flora and hugged her tightly. "It's ok, don't cry." He strokes her gently.

"Gallen! You've spoilt her too much! This isn't her first time! Do you remember how she messed up the economy analysis report last year?" Moses shook his head angrily. "I shall wash my hands off this!" He ran out of the office angrily.

"Moses was so fierce just now, I never seen him flared up like this!" Flora commented as she follows Gallen into the house.

"Dear Flora, you must know why he is so worked up, do you know how much effort he had put in for the reports?" He said as he walked towards the sofa and sit comfortably on it.

"Are you angry with me, actually?" She sat beside him gingerly.

"Honestly, I'm very angry. Moses is right. I've spoilt you too much!"

"Sorry, I'll be careful in future." She said guiltily.

"And how many times have you said that to me, Flora dear?" He turns to face her, "I don't understand, you graduated with such quality grades, but why is your work performance such a far cry from them? Perhaps Moses is right, you are not at all serious in your work..." He heaved a deep sigh and walked right into his room.

Flora looked at his back, feeling extremely guilty. He was right. Moses was right about her. Ever since her grave mistake on the first month of her work, she had almost lost her confidence completely. She was never so sloppy in her work before that. She still remembered vividly how determined she was to fulfill her ambition as an outstanding advisor but that was all in the past.

She gave the door knob a twist and entered. Gallen wasn't there, he must be in their other room upstairs. As she spirals up the stairs, she tried to visualize what Gallen was doing in the room. The door stood ajar, and the lights were off except for the side table lamp which was lighting brightly. She gave the door a slight push and walked in gingerly, closing the door.

Gallen was sitting at the edge of the bed, staring into space.

"Lou Gong...." She calls out as she approaches him and squats down, holding his hands and putting her head onto his laps. "Will you forgive me?" She whispered gently.

Stroking her hair softly, he utters, "Of course I will, but I'm worry about the company though..."

"I..." She didn't really know what to say.

"Forget it! Some things are not within our control! Instead of mulling over it, we should sit down calmly and seek a solution as soon as possible." He puts on a bright smile on his face, and continued, "Sorry, I shouldn't bring work back to home. Hmmm, do you remember what special day is next Monday?"

Flora stands up and sits besides him. "Of course I do! It's our wedding anniversary! How do you want to celebrate it with me?" She clung onto him tightly and spoke sweetly.

"I'll do the planning, be prepared for a special surprise!"

"Why the secrecy?" She grinned happily.

"You'll know when the time arrives." He pauses, and flickers his eyes. "But now, we shall..." He smiled cheekily while extending his arms around her, placing his head against hers.

"What do you want?"

"What do you think?" He smiles cheekily.

"I don't know. I am tired now." She yawns and lied down, closing her eyes smilingly.

"Reason not accepted. Objection overruled. Punishment will be carried out." He tickles her while she turns around to defend herself. In a minute, he caught her and places his lips on hers, conveniently switching off the lamp on the side table...

"You'd better talk nicely to her, please don't make her cry again!" Ada warned as she stared seriously into Moses' eyes.

"You certainly sound like I'm bullying my own sister! That girl!" He shakes his head. "You should know better than me how she's like since your two are the best of friends! You and Gallen are spoiling her way too much! He just called this morning to remind me not to lecture Flora again."

"I know she's playful at times, but she's your only sister, you should guide her and not chide her every time! It'll only stress your relationship!" Ada turned her head to the driver, saying straightly into his face.

"Ok. You know I love my sister, but sometimes I'm just too irritated by her nonchalance over business." Moses attitude softens.

"This world is not all about work, Mr. Chan! I believe what Flora needs is not a career, but a good family." She pauses. "And that applies for you too! I wouldn't want a husband who is fully devoted to his work and neglects me all the time too!"

"Are you hinting something?" Moses smiles while raising his eyebrows to look at her.

"Well, maybe." She replied without turning to look at him. "Just drop me up there, I need to get something before my class."

Moses stopped his car at the spot as indicated by Ada, dropping her off.

"Remember to talk nicely to Flora!" She reminded kindly.

"I will. I'll pick you up at six later, ok?" She nodded her head and he drove off after waving goodbye.

"Do you want to give me another lecture, Professor Chan?" Flora pouted as she enters Moses' room and sits down comfortably.

"Flora," His tone was dead serious. "You're my only sister and I certainly want the best for you. Don't you want the best for Gallen?"

"He had already forgiven me!" She talked back.

"I know! He did so because he loves you too much! He would forgive you no matter what you do wrong. But don't you love him?"

"Of course I do!" She protested, almost agitatedly.

"Then I guess you should spare a thought for him! It wasn't easy for him to set up "Angel's Scent" from scratch. Do you want to see it ruined in your hands?"

"Aren't you exaggerating here? What grave mistake did I make to put it in such a situation, Gor?" She objected stubbornly.

He took a deep breath and continued. "It's not only about those mistakes. Do you know how worried Gallen was over the troubles you've created? I don't think you do because he didn't want you to be worried over him. So he acted the normal way he did."

He took out some files and displayed them before her. "These are two of our major clients. Now they are canceling their orders with us because we mixed up the statistics and made the wrong analysis, causing them to incur losses with their batch of goods."

"I didn't expect things to turn out so serious, Gallen didn't tell me..." A tinge of guiltiness floats within her heart.

"And after these two major clients turned to our rival, HT, we are now placed at a very disadvantage position to them. And do you know Gallen actually..." He hesitates.

"Gallen? What about Gallen?" She sits up and waits for his answer anxiously.

"For the sake of the company, he socialized a lot recently and was sent to the hospital last month because of internal stomach bleeding due to the over intake of strong alcohol." He blurted out.

"What? I thought he was out for a business trip to the mainland? You mean... for the past few days, he was in the hospital? Alone? Suffering? And I'm not even aware of this?" Tears had already filled her eyes, running down her cheeks.

"Yes, he was. He told me to keep it from you. He is putting your interests and feelings before everything else! But why can't you spare a thought for him, Flora?" He sighed. "I'm not requesting you to slog your guts out, that would only pain him and everyone who cares about you, but please be more serious about your work, okay? Don't treat the office like a playground or a laboratory..."

Flora kept quiet. There was a moment of silence which felt like forever. Moses stepped out.

Flora pondered over Moses' words. She felt that he was right. She felt extremely guilty learning how much Gallen had done to shelter her from unhappiness. She gave a knock on Gallen's door and entered.

"What's the matter, dear?" Gallen flashed a charming smile on his face. Seeing that she stayed rooted in her position, he stood up and walks towards her, placing his hands on her shoulders.

"I'm sorry..." She whispered as she hugs him tightly, and continued, "I wasn't by your side when you most needed me, and yet I am creating havoc in the company and you have to clear up the mess for me..." Tears rolled down her cheek, smudging the make-up on it.

"It wasn't that serious! Who says so? Moses?" He chuckles, releasing her from the hug and faces her directly, wiping off her tears. "Don't cry, you know it pains me to see you cry. The company is doing fine, Moses is just too uptight."

"No!" She grips his hands. "I know about everything, about the lost of our major clients, about your stay in the hospital, about your love for me, I just know I've let you down..." Gallen shakes his head while she continues. "I promise, I'll be serious in my work, I'll be nice to you, I'll not cause you trouble again..."

"Actually I have been thinking..." He looks seriously into her eyes. "If you really don't like to work here, I won't force you, you can..."

"No!" She shakes her head. "I want to stay here and help you, I want to make up for all my past mistakes!" She insisted.

"Whatever you say!" He whispered sweetly while pulling her into his embrace.
