Fixing A Broken Heart

~~Thanks God you didn't break my heart, thanks god heaven gave me a chance...~~

Ada and Moses didn’t really know how to console the poor Gallen. Therefore they didn’t stop him from leaving when he wanted too. Taking the lift down the apartment, he couldn’t really concentrate. His mind was blank, empty! He didn’t really want to think about anything, not now!

When the lift opens, he didn’t even notice the security guard saying hello to him and just dragged his feet out of the building. While he was getting his car, he thought he heard someone crying nearby. He tried to trace the source of the crying.

He walked nearer and nearer to the crying, and it sounded clearer and clearer. Finally he saw a figure sitting beside a blue convertible. He walked up and stopped there.

The girl raised her head up. It was Flora! What was she doing here?

Flora gave him a hard stare. “Go away! I don’t want to see you!” Seeing that he did not do as he was told, Flora continued, “Now all of them are treating me like that because of you!”

“Huh?” Gallen didn’t quite get her.

“Now they are all thinking in your interests. Did they ever think of mine?” She was still sobbing, and tried hard to make herself heard clearly. “My best friend and my own brother don’t trust me, they rather side with you!”

“No, they…” Gallen paused. He didn’t really know what to say out of a sudden.

“Do you know how hurt it feels like to be wronged?” She raised her voice a little.

Gallen looked seriously at her. “You mean… you and Bowie… you didn’t…”

“None of your business! I hate you!” She cast another glare at him.

Gallen squatted down and passed her a tissue. She took and threw it on the ground. He picked up the dirtied tissue, and took out another new one and passed it to her, she took it once again and threw it away, and he repeated the action. After 5 times of throwing away the tissue, picking up and passing it, Flora looks at the patient Gallen and chuckled.

“What are you laughing at?” Gallen looked at her.

“Laughing at your silliness.” She was smiling. “You knew I will throw it away and yet you keep passing me new ones. Do you sell tissue for a living?”

Gallen chuckled and put on a charming smile, passing her yet another tissue.

“Here, wipe your tears.” He said lovingly.

“Thank you.” She uttered softly as she takes the tissue from him.

“You’re welcome!” He flashed another smile at him.

She wiped her tears and lifted her head to look at him seriously. They looked into each other’s eyes for a minute. There was a sense of familiarity and soothing comfort she found in his eyes out of nowhere.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Gallen let out a soft chuckle. “I look like a monster?”

Flora chuckled again. “Nope…” She thought for a second before continuing. “I’ve discovered something.”

“What?”

“That kind of feeling seems to have evaporated.” She spoke.

“What kind of feeling?” He wondered.

“A kind of avoidance,” She spoke slowly, “That I once find in you, a type of uneasiness, facing you.”

“Really?” A hopeful look dawned on his face.

“Emmm… in fact,” She looked smilingly at him. “I find that you don’t look that irritating anymore, instead…”

“Instead what?” He asked.

“Instead, I find you quite handsome.” She finished her sentence.

Gallen blushes a little. “Are you teasing me?”

“No, I’m serious!” And her expression matched her words. He trusted her.

“Then… can we start all over as normal friends?” He lowered his volume a bit.

“No.” She answered swiftly.

“Huh?” He was disappointed.

“Good friends, Ok?” She winked.

He gasped a little. “You’re just like before. Enjoy fooling me!” He shakes his head.

“Who ask you to be so gullible?” She threw another playful glance at her.

“Ok, I know I am silly and stupid…” He smiled.

“No, you’re just too trusting. A plus and minus point!” She said.

“Well, that makes it neutral!” He added.

“Yeah!” She smiled.

“Emmm… it’s quite late now… I better see you up…” Gallen reminded kindly.

“No… I think… perhaps they are still mad at me…” She hesitated.

“But you’re innocent, right?” He wanted to confirm the fact.

“Of course! Do you think I’m that easy anyway?” She was a bit angry.

“Of course not! You’re always perfect in my eyes!” He replied swiftly.

“No one is perfect, silly guy!” She commented.

“Except you…” He whispered and looked into her eyes.

She averted his eyes and continued. “Emmm, you’re right. I better go up and explain to them.”

She stood up, and he followed suit.

“I see you up?” He offered.

“No, it’s ok. I’ll go up by myself.” She replied.

“Ok, I see you to the lift?” He made another offer.

“Ok.”

They walked side by side to the lift without a word.

“You don’t need to see me further. It’s late, and you’re tired too. Go home and take a rest.” She looked at him and walked into the lift.

“Ok, good night.” He was a bit reluctantly to go.

“Good night.” She smiles and presses the ‘close door’ button.

After the door was closed, he smiled happily to himself. He was glad that their relationship had somewhat progressed.

Flora stood outside the door for a minute before plucking her courage to open it. She opens it slowly and peeks through the opening. Nobody around. She opened it and tiptoed quietly into her room.

Just as she was about to open her room’s door, someone spoke up.

“Why are you back? I thought you had gone back to your dear Bowie’s?” Moses walked out behind her.

Ada heard him and walked swiftly out of the kitchen. “Moses, please don’t…”

“Don’t side with her, she…” Moses butted.

“No, Moses. Look, it’s past midnight, you better go home. You looked so tired!” Ada spoke. “I’ll talk to her, ok?” She whispered to him.

He took a look at Ada and accepted her suggestion. “Ok, I’ll get moving. You have a good talk with her. Talk her to her senses!” He added.

“Ok.” She opened the door for him, “Goodbye.”

“Goodbye.” He said and closed the door for Ada.

Ada turned over and looked at Flora. “Let’s talk in your room, Flora.”

She nodded and they proceeded into the room and sat on the bed to talk.

“Ada, I just want to say there is nothing between Bowie and me, we’ll just boss and subordinate, that’s all!” Flora spoke frankly. “It’s just like what I’ve said earlier, it was too late in the night and so I decided not to take the trouble home.”

“But just now you said…” Ada questioned.

“I just say that in a fit of pique, I was quite annoyed you people don’t spare a thought for me and misunderstood me! But I didn’t admit anything, did I?” Flora replied.

“But you said you have some feelings for him?”

“Yes.” She admitted. “I find him quite a meticulous and humorous guy, and we do get along quite well… Can’t tell he’s quite a chatty guy, we chatted for hours yesterday!”

“So you accepted him?” She probed again.

“Nope, not yet. The time is not ripe.”

“Why?”

“I don't know,” She shrugs. “Just a feeling.”

She closed her eyes and the thought of someone tickles her. Ada looked at her bemusedly.
