Chapter 43

Epilogue

It was a beautiful sunny day. Raymond and Charmaine walked hand in hand down the harbor. Raymond sat down on a bench and pulled Charmaine onto his lap. With his arms around her waist, he traced kisses up and down her arm. The incident with Joe has long been forgotten. True to Michael's words, no one had heard from Joe ever since that fateful day. The police came after neighbors reported hearing a gun shot. Luckily for them, Michael knew the Sergeant who came to investigate. Everything was hushed and wrapped up in a matter of minutes. Raymond had handed his resignation to Michael the following day. He now helped Charmaine with the running of the café. For the first time in his life, Raymond was content. He squinted his eyes against the blaring sun to look at Charmaine, “What time are we meeting them for dinner tonight?”

Charmaine hooked her arms loosely around his neck and said, “Tavia called earlier and said about 6:00pm. So we have plenty of time before then. Let’s catch a movie.”

Raymond shook his head, “Nah, not in the mood for it.”

Charmaine tilted her head as she looked down at him and taunted, “So what are you in the mood for then?”

“Let’s go home,” Raymond said seductively. “That might give me an idea.”

Charmaine bit back laughter and said, “Don’t you get tired of staying home every day?”

Raymond tightened his hold on her and said, “Not when I’m with you.”

Charmaine dipped her head and kissed him thoroughly. When she lifted her head she was pleased that the kiss had left him breathless. She leaned towards his ear and whispered, “I agree, let’s go home.”

Just then there was a bolt of lightening and the sky darkened in a matter of seconds. Charmaine stood up quickly as she stared up into the black sky, “We better hurry. It's starting to drizzle.”

Raymond appeared unaffected by it as he leisurely stood up and took her hand. He stared deeply into her eyes and murmured, “Just like old times.”

It was at that moment that the rain came rushing down from above. Raymond and Charmaine were oblivious to it as they stood staring at each other full of love knowing that a bright future lay ahead for them.
