"Huh?" Raymond didn't hear her. He was thinking about Michelle, "What did you just say?"
"I said what were you and Michelle talking about."
"Oh... um... we-we were talking ab-bout the test... Yes! Test! We were talking about the test we had on our Japanese course."
"You and Michelle take Japanese? I thought you guys take Spanish."
"We decided to change courses!" Raymond had a big, innocent smile on his face.
Rain laughed and kissed him on the cheek, "No need to be that nervous."
Raymond smiled weakly.
"We're here." Rain said as they stopped in front of and old, old apartment. The windows at the apartment were all broken and moldy. The wall's color was coming off. "It's not much," Rain said nervously.
Raymond walked up to the front door. "As long it's my girlfriend's home," he pulled Rain to him by the waist, "I'll love it," he was about to kiss her lips, but something made him not to do it, so he kissed her on the cheeks instead.
Rain giggled, "Come on. My mom's waiting for you."
They walked up the steps and opened the door. A bell rung as they walked in.
"Hi Miss Li," The old janitor said.
"Hi Uncle Sam," Rain said cheerfully, "this is my boyfriend, Raymond Lam."
Raymond looked at Rain closely. Why is she telling everybody that I'm his boyfriend? Raymond thought. Raymond had a feeling that he hates it when Rain tells everybody that he is her boyfriend. He doesn't know why he hates it, but he just do.
"Hi Mr. Lam," Uncle Sam said and held out a dirty and moldy hand.
Raymond looked at Rain and laughed a really fake laugh. he did not want to shake Uncle Sam's hand, but he is nice and dhe shook it.
"I need to go to buy some lunch. Bye Miss Li," Uncle Sam said and left.
"Eww," Raymond looked at his hand that now had an ugly shade of green. "That was disgusting.
"Uncle Sam may be dirty, but he is really nice," Rain said disappointedly.
"I never said anything Rain," Raymond said.
"Okay then. Come on."
He followed her passed the elevators and to the stairs.
"How come we're not going on the elevator?" Raymond asked.
"Uh... the elevators are down." Rain looked really embarassed.
"Oh... that's okay! I don't mind walking," Raymond smiled a really comfortable smile. That made Rain feel a lot better.
They walked up the stairs all the way to the last floor which was floor thirteen. Boy! Was Raymond tired.!
"We're finally here?" Raymond asked Rain, breathing heavily.
"Yeah," Rain walked up to the only door that was there. She knocked on the door. "Mom! Guess who I brought to see you! Mom?" She knocked the door two more times. "Mom?!" She turned to Raymond, "She's not answering me. I think she's not here."
Raymond bit his lip, and said "Let me do it," he approached the door and knocked. "Mrs. Li!" He shouted. He knocked the door harder. The door opened by itself as he knocked hard. He looked at Rain, "The door wasn't closed properly."
"Hmm... I wonder what's wrong. Mom!" She shouted again as she went in the dim apartment.
"Rain, it's too dark."
"Here, I'll... turn on the light... Ahhh!" She tripped over something huge.
"Rain!" Raymond felt the wall and screened his hand on the wall to feel the light switch. "Gotcha!" He felt the switch and clicked it open.
Everything went bright at once. Raymond had to blink his eyes to adjust to the bright light.
"Whoa," Rain whispered.
Raymond opened his eyes. The apartment was a total mess. The couch, table, and the chairs were knocked over. Papers were lying on the floor everywhere. "Rain? You don't clean your home?" Raymond asked Rain.
"Yeah I do!" She began to lift a chair up, "And where's Mom?" She looked around the room.
"Rrring!" The phone rang. Rain limped over to the phone (She injured her leg when she tripped) and held it toward her ear, "Hello?"
"If you want your mom," the person in the phone said, "get ready five million dollars in cash."
"You captured my mom?!" Rain yelled. Raymond looked at Rain.
"Shut up you little girl," the person in the phone said.
"Where's my mom?" Rain cried, her eyes watering.
"Oh you'll know. Just get ready the five million dollars in cash by three days. I'll contact you in three days."
"What three days!" Rain cried.
"What! Want to make that six?"
"But..." Raymond took the phone, "Raymond..." Rain whispered.
"Where is she?" Raymond said firmly.
"Ahh... by the sound of it, you must be Rain's boyfriend, Raymond."
"How did you..."
"Never you mind! Just get ready the money, in cash, by three days. I'll sntact you in three days to tell you where to meet us. Oh yeah... remember my name Raymond Lam... Jack Chung," he hung up.
"Hello...?" Raymond looked toward the window. He saw a phonebooth right down the road. The phone was hanging down....
Raymond clenched his fist and ran to the stairs to go down.
"Raymond!" Rain ahouted and followed him.
He ran all the way without stopping to the phonebooth he saw on Rain's apartment window. He picked up the reciever, "Hello?" Noone answered. "Damn!" He cussed and through the phone.
"What should we do?" Rain asked Raymond nervously.
"We're going to save your mom."
