Chapter 25

A Different Rain

Raymond brought Michelle home and tucked her in bed. She cried to sleep. Raymond sat beside her bed and looked at her tearful face. She's asleep. Raymond looked at her swolen, closed eyes. He couldn't help feeling sad for her. Michelle has loved Frankie with all her heart, why does Frankie have to do this? He soon fell asleep by her side.

Raymond woke up with a beautiful morning. He sat up straight and yawned. He rubbed the red spot on his cheek from sleeping on the hard side table all night. He looked at the still sleeping Michelle and smiled. He took his jacket and left the apartment.

As he walked farther away from Michelle's apartment, he stopped dead. 'Oh no! I totally forgot about Mom!' He remembered the phone call by his mom the previous night, before Michelle embraced him which knocked him out of his senses. He headed back to his home.

As he walked halfway toward his home, a girl blocked his way. Raymond looked up, "Rain?"

She smiled. "I want to talk to you."

Raymond narrowed his eyes... and nodded.

Raymond and Rain settled themselves in a nearby restaurant. The waiter dressed in a beautifully designed siut walked to them and gave each two menus. Raymond grabbed the menu out of his hand and Rain received it with a polite smile. Raymond hastily opened to the front page of the menu. He gaped at it. Boy this place is expensive! Raymond seemed to read his mind. She grinned, "My treat."

Raymond looked up and grinned an embarrising smile. Rain started to tell the waiter the list of food that she wanted. Rain named all the breakfast specials with high prices. When did she get so rich? "Um... that will be all for now," Rain finished.

"Yes," the waiter bowed and walked away holding the menus.

"So," Raymond began, "how have you been these three weeks? Where did you go? I can't find you anywhere."

Rain smiled, "I went to Taiwan. And I also decided to never come back to Hong Kong again. But I came back. Do you know why?"

Raymond shook his head.

Rain continued, "I was thinking about going to Taiwan to start a new life. When i reached there, I saw something really interesting," She paused. Raymond looked at her closely, listening to every word that comes out of her mouth. "I met this girl. She was exploring around Taiwan telling everybody if they have seen this particular toddler on the picture that was with her. She met me. She told me if I met this toddler before. I said yes. That toddler was me."

Raymond widened his eyes, "You? How did your baby picture get to Taiwan?"

"She brought me to the home she serves as a maid. And I met my dad."

"Your dad? Then how come you're living with you mom... and also, where's your mom? Have you found out anything about her disapperance?"

"You're out of topic Raymond. But I'll answer your question... my mom is dead."

"DEAD?!"

Rain looked closed to tears. "Yes. The reason my mom left my dad is because my mom discovered that my dad has another woman. She brought me to Hong Kong."

"Oh..." Raymond finally got the answer he longed desire to know.

"After I met my dad, who is still living in Taiwan, i really wamt to hit him, treating my mom like that. But I didn't. My dad's other wife died. He also said taht he really regreted treating my mom like that. I accepted his apology. So now, I live with him. But then, just a couple of days ago, he discovered that he had cancer, and died."

Raymond was quiet.

"So I came back to Hong Kong."

Raymond smiled, "You changed."

Rain grinned. "When I came back to Hong Kong, I was really shy of meeting you. I was also thinking about our relationship--"

"We can't get together Rain. I'm sorry. A break up is a break up."

Rain grew shocked at what Raymond said. "Raymond. I never told you to come back to me. I'm just saying that your right. We can't get along well. I agree with our break up. Besides, you do have Michelle."

"It's not Michelle's fault."

"Oh yes... of course."

They had a quiet breakfast. Raymond couldn't stop thinking about Rain. He feels really sad for her. Rain, on the other hand, was smiling. She is happy that she gets a chance to see Raymond, even thought she is shy about it.

Raymond set his fork and knife down, "Do you have a place to stay?"

Rain nodded. "Yeah. My dad had a mansion in HOng Kong so I'm staying there."

"Wow. Your dad is sure rich."

"Yeah. My dad also has a company on manufacturing here and I'm the vice president."

"Wow," Raymond smiled.

They dept quiet throughout the rest of their meal. After Raymond left, Rain grinned cruelly. She can't wait to take her plan into action.
