Charlene sat in boredom as she watched Gillian flirt with Edison. And Edison? He was flirting back! She made a mental note that she would never ever in her remaining life ever flirt with him again. How could he be flirting with Gillian?
‘Guys,’ Charlene said. She felt she was talking to herself. ‘Hello! She raised her voice a little to catch their attention. Both of them turned to her with similar annoyance she noted. ‘I’m going. I’ll see you on Monday.’
She stood up and without waiting for them to utter a word she left the table. When she got to the bus stop did she then let out a frustrated sigh.
‘What was that for?’
Charlene twirled around, startled. ‘What are you doing here?’
‘Why did you leave?’ he asked on top of her question.
‘What? Bored of flirting with Gillian?’ she retorted with a touch of sarcasm.
She looked away anywhere but him. There were many pedestrians waiting for the bus she noticed for the first time.
A smiled crept on Edison’s face. Charlene glanced at him just in time to see that smug look. She was confused at what he might find amusing.
‘What?’ she asked.
‘You’re jealous!’ he sang out like a child.
Charlene gasped taken aback. ‘No… I’m not!’ she denied. She looked away from him and was glad to see the bus halt in front. Since she was the last on the long queue she had to wait a while.
‘I’ll give you a lift,’ Edison offered.
‘With what? Your bike is back at the hockey rink, unless you were thinking of carrying me all the way to my place.’
‘I’m not complaining to that!’ he slyly smiled.
She let out an exaggerating sigh. ‘What am I going to do with you?’ she shook her head like a mother disappointed at her child.
‘Take me home and work wonders on me?’ he offered eagerly.
She heard giggles in front of her. She turned to the girls that were obviously charmed by him. ‘Look you have fans!’ she said.
‘What’s with the quips?’ he asked confused. ‘You normally flirt back with me,’ he said ignoring the bunch of girls that were clearly in lust with him.
‘I don’t flirt with players,’ she stated and got on the bus. She paid for her fair and found the only empty seat in front of her. She looked over at the front where Edison was fiddling with his pockets. After a moment she sighed and got up to pay for his fare as well.
‘Thanks,’ he said. ‘Remind me to give you a raise.’
People stared at him strangely at why he would say that if he couldn’t pay for the bus fare but both of them weren’t bothered. Edison sat at the empty seat that was once hers. ‘Forget the raise right now,’ she told him. She held onto a pole tightly as the bus took off on the road. Her grip tightened when she felt she might fall any second. She looked down at Edison. ‘Get off my seat.’
‘Which seat?’ He arched an eyebrow at her mockingly. He looked around to see if there was any seat available. But there was none. ‘Where am I going to sit?’
‘For being a great boss you get to stand up!’ she said it as if she was giving him a prize.
He ignored the dirty looks he was getting from other passengers. ‘So what do I get if I give you my chair?’
She narrowed her eyes at him looking at him intently. ‘What do you have in mind?’ she was almost afraid to ask.
‘A kiss.’
She stared at him. Then slowly she bent down licking her lips seductively. She batted her eyes at him. Edison gulped as he was getting turned on by it. Not only was he but the rest of the male on the bus. She inched closer to his face when there lips were a breath away.
She then suddenly pulled back straightening herself up. ‘I’m not that desperate!’ she remarked in disgust.
‘Oh you’re not getting away after that.’ Edison wrapped his arms around her and pulled her down on him so she was sitting on his lap. She cried out in shock. ‘I thought of something else,’ he whispered in her ears. ‘We both get what we want.’
He tilted her head to face him with the tip of his index finger. He then bent his head to take her lips with his. He pulled back a moment later out of breath.
‘You…’ she began but she couldn’t tell him off because she knew he knew that she enjoyed that too. She licked her lips her gaze not leaving his. ‘Don’t do that again,’ she whispered.
She turned her attention out the window. She knew she was blushing she didn’t have to look at her reflection to know that. Everyone in the bus had watched that small scene. When it was her stop she jumped off his lap and practically ran out of the bus mumbling thanks at the bus driver.
‘Hey!’ Edison called out from behind her but she didn’t stop to wait for him. She carried on to her motel room. He laced his hands around her stopping her at her tracks. ‘Aren’t you forgetting something?’
She looked at him blankly.
‘Me!’ he exclaimed.
She shook her head. ‘Forget you? How could I do that?’ He grinned ear to ear hearing that. ‘You’re always popping up in my life that I just can’t,’ she added making Edison drop his smile. Her heart sank. She didn’t like it when he didn’t smile. She felt bad.
‘I’ll see you on Monday then,’ he said. He squeezed her hand then let it slip from his hand. He turned around and headed back to the bus stop.
Charlene hesitated. ‘Edison,’ she whispered. He didn’t seem to hear. ‘Edison,’ she said a little louder. But he still didn’t hear her. ‘Edison!’ she yelled at the top of her lungs.
He turned slowly. She saw the arrogant smile of his and knew that he had heard her the first time. ‘Yes?’
‘Thank you.’
He looked at her blankly. ‘Thank you for what?’
‘For bringing me here,’ she said. Here voice was a little loud since he was a little far from her.
‘Is that all?’ he asked, an eyebrow rose. He stepped closer.
She shook her head. ‘I want to thank you for giving me a job.’
‘Is that all?’ He stepped closer.
She shook her head. ‘For all those expensive lunches you paid for.’
‘Now, is that all?’ He stepped closer. He smiled at her, amusingly.
‘For letting me ride your bike,’ her voice was going quieter now.
He stepped closer. She could see his devastating dimples now. ‘Is that all?’
She gulped as he was just two steps away from her. ‘For all those sly kisses afterwards.’
His grin broadened. ‘Really?’ He was a step away now.
She nodded. ‘I wanna thank you for escorting me here.’
He stepped closer. His lips were centimeters away from hers. ‘Are you finished?’
Her lips went dry just looking at his. She licked them. ‘Now I have to apologize.’
He narrowed his eyebrows. ‘Apologize for what?’
‘For this…’ She leaned forwards and kissed him.
Edison pulled back. He bit his bottom lips stopping himself from smiling. ‘You want to apologize for that?’ Charlene nodded looking down at her shoes. She was shy all over sudden. ‘Well, I have to tell you something…’ Charlene looked cocking her eyebrow up questioningly. ‘I want to apologize for this.’ It was him now kissing her.
She pulled back. ‘I’m offended!’ she exclaimed.
‘Why, honey?’
‘Nobody ever apologizes for kissing me!’ she told him haughtily.
‘The feelings mutual,’ he replied.
‘I have to go now,’ she said. She turned to leave. ‘Oh, yeah,’ she didn’t turn as she spoke. ‘Thanks for that kiss.’
She was grinning widely when she got in her motel room. She sighed. Today seemed interesting, she thought to herself. She just wished that Daniel, Mel or Leo don’t find her. They are getting close behind her. She had to be extremely careful.
‘You got this far,’ she told herself. ‘They can’t take that away from me.’
She then thought of Gillian. She had to tell her that she liked Edison and she was sure that the feelings were mutual. So how was she going to bring the subject up without hurting her?
