Chapter 50

The Wedding (4th Kiss) Part 1 *Completed*

Dear All,

This is the end of Part 1! I'm going to take a little break from I.N.K and complete my short story first before starting Part 2. Special thinks to my partner Smile:) for providing all the information required which made writing this story possible. I'd also like to thank each and everyone of you who have bothered spending minutes/hours (?) of your precious time in reading this story! Thanks for all your comments - they have kept me motivated and I've read all of them carefully. I hope you had as much fun reading this as I had writing it ... ... :)

Kotoko’s POV
“Hey is everyone free on the 21st of November?” Mrs Irie suddenly asked in the middle of dinner.

“Why?” Mr Irie asked. I figured it was probably another of Mrs Irie’s occasions to be celebrated.

“It’s Naoki’s and Kotoko’s wedding day!” She cheerfully announced. Both Irie Kun and I choked violently.

“WHAT?” I shouted.

“NO WAY!” Irie Kun shouted as well.

“WE OBJECT!” We both continued almost simultaneously.

“Look mama, we’re not ready to be married yet. There’s father’s business to be settled first.” Irie Kun explained.

For once I was in total agreement, yes I loved him but isn’t it a bit too soon? “Mrs Irie, I think we’re still young. I mean I’m still studying!”

“Isn’t it rushing things a bit, dear?” That was Mr Irie.

“I think it’s a bit too soon,” Dad was in full agreement.

“What, I’m going to get a sister-in-law so soon?” Yuki was horrified.

However, in spite of all our protests and Irie Kun showing his extreme displeasure, Mrs Irie totally brushed aside our arguments. This explains why I find myself dressed in this beautiful white wedding gown, trying to calm the butterflies in my stomach as my make-up artist adds the final touches to my face and the hairdresser piles my hair up on my head, revealing my slender neck. She finally fixes the veil onto the crown of white roses on my hair.

“Beautiful,” both of them exclaimed. They stepped back and Mrs Irie looked at me, satisfaction obvious on her face.

“You look so beautiful, Kotoko, Naoki won’t be able to keep his eyes off you.” I smiled a little nervously as I looked at myself in the full-length mirror. The wedding dress I selected was a rather simple white satin sheath that had a heart shaped bodice adorned with tiny crystals, and the skirt extended out to a long white trail dragging the floor. I was already slim and the dress further accentuated my slender figure. I was wearing long gloves that extended up to my elbows and a diamond neckless lay sparkling on my bossom. My hair was piled artfully up on my head, framed by a crown of white roses and a long veil cascaded from the crown of roses, reaching far below my shoulders. My eyes were sparkling with anticipation and appeared larger than ever, my checks were flush with excitement in addition to the light blusher applied and there was a small smile on my lips. I looked at the lovely girl in the mirror with a dreamy expression on her face – was that really me?

“It’s time to go to the church, Kotoko.” Mrs Irie handed me a bouquet of flowers and led me downstairs. We had agreed upon a church ceremony and then a reception. The church was within walking distance and I knew that Irie Kun was already there – that is if he hadn’t freaked out and vanished at the last minute. When we arrived I was brought to a little room where I waited nervously for the time to make my grand entrance. I had not seen Irie Kun since yesterday, as was the custom. Needless to say, my stomach was doing flipflops again.

The door opened and I saw Yuki peeping in. “Wow … …” was all he said as he stared at me for a moment. I didn’t know whether to feel flattered or annoyed. That cheekly little imp looked really cute in his suite – boy would he be a heartbreaker like his elder brother when he grows up. I smiled at him, but my hands were still shaking and I believed that I must have been very pale.

“Hey, don’t be afraid ok?” He’s actually trying to reassure me? That little boy can be a real sweetie at times.

“I’ve got something to tell you.” I bent down accordingly and my eyes widened in amazement as he whispered in my ear.

“Swear to me that you’re not lying.” I finally said when he finished.

“I swear. Hey I gotta get seated.” Satisfied that he was telling the truth, I let a smile spread over my face as he vanished.

Naoki’s POV
I was frowning to myself as I stood in the front of the church. From the bits of conversation that I overheard, I gathered that the general public felt that I was really handsome but that I wasn’t in the best of moods. Thank you for stating the obvious, I bit back a curse as I tugged at the tight collar of the suit. Thanks to mama, I was dressed up to the nines, black suit, white shirt, tie and all with a white rose pinned to the lapels of my collar. Okay, I guess this is the normal garb for bridegrooms albeit unwilling ones. Then, the music started and I turned to look at the church door. My breath caught in my throat and my heart started racing when I caught sight of the vision in the doorway. Kotoko was shyly walking towards me on the arm of her father, the embodiment of loveliness in her long white wedding dress and veil. There was a dreamy look on her face and she was blushing slightly.

“Take care of her, son.” Mr Aihara said softly as he gave Kotoko’s gloved hand to me. I nodded, promising him silently. I felt Kotoko’s hand tremble in mine and I squeezed it reassuringly.

“Dear all, we have gathered today … …” the priest started. My frown appeared again magically.

“Are you angry?” I heard Kotoko whisper softly in the middle of the service. I turned slightly to see her wide eyes fixed on mine with something akin to fear. Somehow, my anger at being forced into this ceremony melted. It wasn’t her fault at all – she was as much a victim of circumstance as I was.

“Yes,” I told her bluntly as her face fell. “However, since you’re looking so pretty in your wedding gown, it’s ok.” She blinked in surprise, then a small smile appeared on her face. Somehow after that, I couldn’t keep my eyes away from her from the rest of the ceremony.

“Mr Irie Naoki do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife and promise to love and cherish her in illness and in health?”

“I do.” I said quietly but clearly. For the sake of appearances, I forced myself to frown a little more.

“And Ms Aihara Kotoko do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband and promise to love and obey him in illness and in health?”

“I do,” her hand was trembling but her soft reply was clear.

“Now I pronounce you husband and wife.” We had agreed beforehand that there would no “now you may kiss the bride” kind of nonsense because neither Kotoko nor myself were the demonstrative type. She simply took my arm and we walked down the aisle to everyone’s cheers and congradulations. Then everything else was a blur, the reception and the photo-taking sessions with our families and friends. Our friends all looked really happy with the exception of Reiko and Kinnosuke. Somehow, I secretly admired that guy for being big enough to turn up for our wedding. In his shoes, I doubt that I would have done the same.

Finally, everyone left and I heaved a sigh of relief when I found myself alone with Kotoko for a moment when our parents went to get the car. To my surprise, I saw an unfamiliar smug expression on her face.

“Irie Kun, have you liked me from a long time ago?” She looked at me with a knowing expression on her face.

I frowned in annoyance, “why on earth are you asking me such a question? And what’s with this attitude?”

She leant a little closer to me, “I know about our second kiss. Yuki told me about it.” My frown intensified, that brother of mine should have known better than to tell Kotoko … … However, the flow of my thoughts was interrupted as she stood on tiptoe and pressed a soft kiss to my lips.

“There, this is what you deserve for not telling me about it.” There was a mischevious light in my lovely bride’s eyes.

Almost automatically, I slipped an arm around her small waist, “I’m really married to you now aren’t I?” She smiled in reply and gently leant her head against my chest as we both walked out of the church, my arm still holding her securely against my side.
