Chun sat him down at the maroon armchair at the side and started to devour the wine catalogue he had brought along. It wasn’t before long when a flash of blue lightning streaked across the grayish sky. It appears that the weather forecast was right for once. Chun looked up and discovered that the panes were washed with rain.
Deciding internally that it wouldn’t be a pleasing sight for his dying father, Chun got up to draw the curtains. Before he managed to put his foot out, a somber clang of the doorbell echoed down the hallway. Chun raised a brow, amazed at the thought of visitors. After all, his father hadn’t been the nicest of all people. It wouldn’t make any monetary sense either, to pay the helpless soul a visit.
Casting a woeful glance at the sorry figure, Chun started for the door. The last maids had been dismissed and in this colossal mansion, there was only him and his father. Perhaps it was just one of the ex-employees dropping by to pick up something forgotten. The likeliness of visitors was as much as opening a strawberry candy wrapper to find nothing.
He swung the door open and standing at the porch was a cloaked silhouette. The rain had stained it into a darker shade and at the end of the cloth were a pair of drenched, muddy flats. There was no telling of the agenda this person harbored; there were no visiting gifts or recognizable traits.
“May I help you?” Chun peered curiously at the figure. The person pulled down her hood, revealing her porcelain complexion and trembling pale lips. Under her cloak, she drew out a letter and handed it to Chun. Filled with uncertainty, Chun took the letter and surveyed it. Inscribed in ink was his father’s name and underneath, was the instruction to hand it personally to the addressee.
Chun lifted his gaze and found the lady swaying slightly in the blustery winds. Decidedly, he opened the door wider and let her in. He shall take a gamble on the character of this lady.
