Chapter 39

Caught Surprised

Hebe was a little troubled. Jiro had suggested wonderful clothes for adornment to the wedding. He had even said that he’ll bring them for her to save her the trouble of leaving house. She was not concerned about attire though. She was more concerned about how she was going to behave.

For the past few days, Chun had seemingly vanished from the house. He didn’t leave any message for her; neither did he mention anything about the wedding. Hebe was starting to worry about the wedding dinner two days later. Jiro had reassured her that nothing too bad will happen and that Chun was a man who valued his face more than anything. Hebe had nothing to worry for Chun would certainly take good care of her.

The bell rang morosely, weighing Hebe’s troubled mind further. She dragged herself to the door and opened it, expecting to see Jiro holding up the dress they picked. Instead, it was Chun. The moment the door was wide enough, Hebe found her hand grabbed by Chun’s and was tugged along into the black limousine parked at the kerb.

She struggled as an innate reaction to such rough treatment. Chun only tightened his grip, not even bothering to look at her or explain this madness. He had also chosen to take the front seat, leaving Hebe at the back and separated from him with a windscreen.

Hebe sat at the edge of the leather seat, rocking up and down to dispel the trepidation in her. Chun doesn’t do surprises. Hebe did not know what to expect. She wondered what would Jiro think when she wasn’t there answering his door. Then she tried to guess what Chun was thinking, resulting in a more dreadful state of panic when the thought that he might be dragging her out for a divorce. She pounded on the windscreen but Chun didn’t seem to care.

Before she knew it, the cool car and the comfy seats convinced her frazzled body into hibernation.

"There are two sorts of surprises: one with glee and delight and the other of horror and fear. I prefer to see love as a mix of both."

I realize I'm running low on pre-written chapters! Need to start writing more.
