Chapter 9

Demeaning Title

“Darling, why didn’t you wake me?”

Rainie’s voice slapped hard and Chun returned back to reality. Rainie’s sweet calls had also drawn Hebe’s attention and she turned to find the coddling duo.

“Who’s she?”

Chun looked at Hebe and thought of those words. It was the exact two words he had been thinking. Who was Hebe Tien? Even though he sees her in the past, she never existed. Today, however, opened his eyes to notice her.

“She’s just the housekeeper. I was just about to get her to prepare your breakfast too.” Chun said.

Those words pricked Hebe’s pride. The woman hugging Chun purred at his words and Hebe saw green. She threw the knife on the floor and stalked out of the kitchen. The woman looked frightened. Chun’s expressions, on the other hand, spelled blank.

“I think she’s not very happy today. But don’t worry, I’ll get breakfast set.” Chun answered after an awkward pause. Rainie however shrugged and said, “Don’t bother to dear. Anyway, I’m just down to kiss you goodbye. I have to rush back to a meeting.” Chun nodded without understanding. Then accepted her kiss and saw her to the door.

Hebe sat in her bed, her face contorted in disgruntlement. She was angry for letting her emotions get the better of her. She had never reacted so strongly before. Perhaps it was because he was always cold and distant to his subjects. But this time, not only was the couple overwhelmed with their passions when making love, he actually allowed the women to stay till the morning. What was more infuriating was how the woman hugged him and how he actually wanted to get her to make the woman breakfast!

Chun walked up to Hebe’s room and paced about. He couldn’t possibly apologize and it would be weird if he suddenly showed his concern for the lady. He was about to knock the door when an acrid burning smell floated up to his nose. Worried, he rushed down to find that the stove was still on and the kitchen counter had been engulfed in flames thanks to the nearby dry washcloth. The fire was spreading so quickly that Chun’s first thought was to run. Calling the fire department can wait till he was safe.

Then he was struck by the thought of Hebe. He couldn’t leave her behind. He promptly turned and ran up the stairs.

"Pride - something felt only went threatened."
I apologize for not updating yesterday. I was too caught up with sleep.
