→Point of View Switch; Carol
Hi, I'm Carol Tai and I'm a girl. I go to high school and my best friend is named Choi MinHwan. He's a really great guy, though sometimes, he can be a bit of a child. Since I trust you all so much I'll even tell you who I like, my friends. The person I love is the most popular boy in school. I'd be surprised if you didn't know who it is by now, since all the girls like him. We can't help it, he's just so captivating. I don't normally like people I don't know that well, but, like I said before - us girls, we can't help liking him. And it doesn't feel like I don't know him that well either, since he's so kind and sweet and....Okay, I'll stop now. His name is Hongki Lee.
I was pulled from my thoughts of Hongki when the bell rang. I was in the washroom, slipping on my gym pants underneath my uniform's skirt. Who designed these things anyways? I don't know. The skirt is much too short for my liking. Once I was finished, I swiped up my school bag and ran on out to join my class, before I was counted as being late.
MinHwan was already there in his seat, laughing and waving, like he did every morning. What a weirdo, huh? I laughed and waved back at him before I sat down too.
"Hey, Carol, why do you keep wearing your gym clothes under your skirt?" he asked, looking at me cutely.
I poked his face. "'Cause this skirt is very short and girly."
"But no one else seems to have a problem with their uniform. I don't have a problem with mine..." He looked down at his uniform, confused.
"That's because YOU and half the other people in the school don't have to wear these skirts!" I raised my voice a little bit more than usual, defending my un-girlish ways. I could see MinHwan was a little startled, so I smiled and patted his head. Sometimes, we'd fall into these types of misunderstandings in the morning, but we'd always make up really quick. I usually smile to show him everything's okay, where as he likes to buy me drinks during lunch.
"You're gonna get in trouble~" he teased, spinning his head away from me to wave at another one of his friends.
"If the school disapproved of these gym clothes, they wouldn't be our P.E. uniforms, now would they?" I smiled.
He snickered in response. As more and more people continued to come through the classroom doors, I stared out, looking for that one guy that every other girl was looking for too.

Aish. There she goes again, looking at that–that–that Lee Hongki. Not that I have anything against him. It's just... Why does he get to have it so easily? Good grades, good at sports, good with girls. Geez, he doesn't even have to try to get the girl's attention. He's just sitting there, with his...really good looking hair. Do you think it's the hair? I bet it's the hair. Do you think that the girls would come to me if I got one of those hairstyles?
I continued to swim in thought, until the teacher came in. She clapped in a loud way, so it would be heard over all of the murmurs, and we began class.
Most people wouldn't pay attention and would let themselves get into other conversations - the teacher didn't care. I tried my best to take notes, but I'd get the occasional whisper or laugh. The biggest distraction was, though, by far, Carol. I'd stare at her every few minutes, but of course, she wouldn't notice. She'd be doing the same thing I do. Take notes. Whisper. Laugh. Look at Hongki.
Damn you, Lee Hongki.

I poked at my food. Where was MinHwan? I wondered, looking down at my lunch. Rice with kimchi, again… Not that I don't like rice, I do. I felt something land on the table, right beside me. Free drink… I looked up to see MinHwan.
See? Didn't I tell you?
"Hey," I greeted, "sit."
He sat down right beside me, holding his tray. He never brings lunch to school. MinHwan likes the cafeteria's chicken.
"Chicken noodle soup, I see. Gimme a noodle," I reached over, grabbing two or three with my chopsticks and ate them. He didn't seem to mind, so I took a piece of chicken too.
"Hey! My chicken! And you said 'a' noodle! One!" He protested.
"I did say that, but then I changed my mind~"
He pouted, "just drink your water."
"I will," I chirped, opening the lid.
I saw, out of the corner of my eye, HongKi, walking to his usual lunch table in the middle of the room. I turned, like a bunch of other people did, to watch him sit down into his chair. Yes, we're creepy fan girls. He looked at me and laughed a little, getting up out of his chair and walking over to me.

"Carol-ah...You have noodle on your face!" HongKi kneeled down and brushed the wet noodle off for her.
Damn it, I wanted to do that.
"Hey, MinHwan," Hongki nodded at me. I waved back, and he walked back to his table. I could feel the fangirl-ish eyes focus in onto our table.

I blushed, as he left.
"D-did you SEE that?!" I turned excitedly to MinHwan.
"Yeah, yeah..." MinHwan waved his hand in front of his face, as if he was pushing the smell of something away.
I sighed happily, letting myself drift down into joyful daydreams of Hongki and his beautiful hair. "Oh! Hey. Valentine's Day is coming up, right?"
"Yeah...it is...."
"I should definitely declare my love to him! But first… Another noodle!"

Oh great cupid, please grace me with enough charm, luck and courage to confess! I carried a small bag of wrapped chocolates - tied with a big, brown bow. It had taken me a long, long time to make the chocolates exactly the way I wanted them to taste. Then, it took an even longer time to tie up the chocolates in a pretty, presentable way.
MinHwan was there, when I was cooking them, eating every other one I made, so I only had about five left. Five pretty looking chocolates wrapped in a pretty bow.
I walked into the classroom, and there sat MinHwan, looking hard at a piece of paper that was set in front of him.
He pushed it away, when he saw me, and it fluttered to the floor. He stepped on it with his foot, and quickly dragged it under his chair. I pointed at the bag of chocolates, and asked where Hongki was, quietly.
MinHwan shook his head, "he's not here yet."
My shoulders slumped. I lost all my nerve.
"Hey, why don't you practice what you're going to say on me, hmm?" MinHwan smiled, trying to cheer me up.
I laughed, my mood lighting up a bit. I patted MinHwan on the shoulder, "how could I practice on you, you're my best friend! Ah! There's HongKi! I'll tell you what happens later!"
Quickly, I rushed off. I didn't look back. How COULD I practice on MinHwan, my cute friend. Ahhh~ Maybe it would make things too awkward...But he was kind of cu-......AHHHH HONGKI! There he is!

I watched as Carol's eyes light up like Christmas lights in the hallway, and she scampered off, like a happy little puppy. And normally I'd be thinking about how cute little puppies are, but what Carol had said earlier had discouraged me.
I waited in the classroom for thirty minutes before Carol came back, looking deflated.
I asked her what happened, but she didn't answer. Assuming it didn't go well at all, I wrapped my arms around her shoulders to comfort her. Or maybe that was just an excuse. Either way, she trembled a little as if she were cold.
"Hey, don't be sad. There are way better guys out there. Me, for instance," I smiled, looking down at her.
"Y–Yeah. There are plenty of fish in the sea," she stared, glumly.
I rested my chin on her head.
"...MinHwan?"
"Hmm?"
"Thanks," she turned around and returned the hug.
Valentine’s Day is officially the best day ever.
"Hey, so, weren't you doing something before I got here this morning?" she asked, eyeing the paper, which was still placed underneath my foot.
I quickly shook my head no. She looked a little smug, reaching down for the paper.
"Ah! It's actually just my math homework."
"Good! I didn't finish that. Let me see it."
"Oh... Did I say math? I meant English."
"Well, I'm not good at that either. Hand it over."
"SCIEEEEENCE!!!!"
"Well, which is it?"
"Health. It's health. Some disturbing stuff there, you don't want to see it."
Crisis averted.

The next went by better than expected. With the help of MinHwan, I was able to let go of my rejection from HongKi, who seems to have forgotten about it, so there's no awkwardness either. However, for the last few days, MinHwan has been acting slightly nervous like he was expecting something, or waiting.
Getting a little impatient myself, I glanced at the clock, which read 11:32. Lunch time nearing, I began to pack up my books, when a half crumpled piece of paper fell out of my notebook. It had a brown mark in the middle, like someone had had their foot on it for a while. It looked pretty old. I wonder how long it'd been in my textbook for.
I unfolded it, slowly, reading the top of it.
"Dear Carol," it said, "I like you. If it's okay, I'd like to be more than your best friend.
Is that okay with you?
-MinHwan"

Carol was now 10 minutes late for lunch. I poked at chicken noodle soup. Somehow, they just didn't taste the same without her trying to steal them away. Did she see the letter already? Maybe I should have been maybe more romantic with the letter. Maybe I shouldn't have written it at all. I bet she's avoiding me now....Unless she likes me. Does she like me?
I felt something land in front of me, causing the table to shake, and looked up.
There I saw an unopened drink with a paper taped to it.
"Yes.
-Carol"
I was wrong before. The Friday AFTER Valentine’s Day is the best day ever.
