I stirred uncomfortably in my bed. The room was dark and I could hear Yesung’s light breathing. I turned to my side and looked at the clock that glowed blue. 1:23 AM
‘I need to get some sleep…’ I thought. But sleep wouldn’t just come. I squeezed my eyes shut tight but they opened on their own. I groaned.
I got off the bed and headed for the bathroom. I washed my face with cold water and stared at the mirror. I looked horrible. I had panda eyes. I walked out the bathroom and slipped my feet into the first pair of sneakers I saw and headed out the door. I floated down the stairs and into the lobby.
Of course, there was no one in the lobby. Maybe one or two students drinking but today there was no one here. I sat down on one of the chairs and stared at the ceiling. My eyes traced the swirls on the ceiling until a girl’s face appeared.
My heart jumped as I flew off the chair. She laughed at my response.
“Can I help you?” I asked.
“No. I don’t think so. Do you recognize me?” she asked.
I stared at her. She did look familiar but I couldn’t figure out who she was.
She smiled. “I’m Leesha.”
My eyes widen and I raised my arms to defend myself. Leesha was part of Wylie’s crew, one of the Dragons.
“Did Wylie send you here to kill me?” I asked.
She laughed. “Of course not. I came here on my own. Don’t worry. I’m not here to kill you.”
I placed my arms down. “What do you want?”
“Well, I wanted to know if you wanted any help with your earth training,” she said.
“My earth training? Why would you want to help me? I’m your enemy aren’t I?”
“Don’t worry. You don’t have to consider me a member of the Dragons.”
“Excuse me? Is this a trap?”
She laughed. “I’m going to quit. I can’t take this anymore. I want to be one of you guys.” She took a step closer to me.
“I don’t… trust you.” I said.
She sighed. “Whatever. I just want to help you with your earth element. I’m a earth user.”
“Your point?”
“You still don’t get it?” She walked closer to me and grabbed my arm. For a girl, she had a strong grip. She looked into my eyes and smiled.
I felt power surrounding us and the lobby began to change. We were outside, at the plains where I always trained.
“How do you expect to train me?” I asked. "And how did we get here? We were just in the lobby."
She smiled. "Teleporting."
“Hmmm…” She sounded uncertain. She waved her hands above a spot on the grass and a little plant popped out. “Make it grow. Send a rush of power into the plant.”
“Sounds easy,” I said.
“That’s what I was hoping for,” she said.
I placed my hand over the plant and concentrated. I did as she said and pain shot through me. I lost my balance and fell.
“Sungmin!” I heard Leesha shout. She was by my side.
I heard a distant laughter and I swore under my breath.
“Leesha. Get the hell away from me,” I said harshly.
Leesha looked confused so I pushed her away and stood up. Just in time, Wylie and another member, Leicester, appeared.
Wylie had a dirty smirk on his face. “Good work Leesha.”
Leesha looked at him. “I…”
“So this WAS a trap,” I said.
“No. Sungmin, I didn’t know,” she pleaded.
“Don’t shit with me.” I growled. A surge of power circled around me. I was WAY too tired to be in this situation. “Get the hell away from me.”
“Leesha. Come over here,” commanded Wylie. Leesha did as he said.
Something was terribly wrong with me. I felt like I was tearing apart. Everywhere hurt.
“What the hell di—“ It hurts too much. Everything was starting to blur. I was definitely in trouble now.
Wylie laughed. “Poison. Duh.”
“Wha..?” I groaned. “I didn’t drink anything.”
“You don’t have to poison someone’s drink when you’re a wizard,” said Wylie. “It’s called magic.”
“Shit…” I choked.
Wylie and Leicester approached me on both sides. I really didn’t feel like fighting but what other choice did I have?
I sent fire spinning around me, knocking Leicester to the ground and burning part of his arm. Wylie easily blew the flames away with his air element.
“Not going to work on me, bud,” he said.
“Get the hell away from me.” I shouted.
“No one is going to save you in the middle of the night.”
“That’s what you think,” came a voice.
Thick cuts appeared all over Wylie. Air.
“God damn you. Show yourself!” shouted Wylie.
“If you say so,” the voice said. And the voice materialized in front of me.
“Heh,” laughed Wylie. “I’m not surprised to see you.”
“And I’m not surprise to see you here trying to kill Sungmin.” He turned around and looked at me.
“Ye…sung…” I croaked. He knelt next to me.
“What happened to you?” His voice was full of concern. I couldn’t talk anymore. I felt like I was on the verge of passing out.
“I poisoned him of course,” said Wylie, casually.
“Sungmin. I’m sorry. I don’t know how to heal you,” said Yesung.
“It… doesn’t… matter.” I groaned in pain as the words came out my mouth.
‘I’m sorry’ was the last thing I heard from Yesung before I blacked out.
I woke up feeling something tingling on my forehead.
“Come on Sungmin! You can’t die on us now!”
“Wake up! Don’t leave us!”
Those were familiar voices. Donghae’s and Yesung’s. I wanted to reach out to them. They felt very close to me. I tried to move but I couldn’t. The blackness around me was keeping me in one spot.
“Sungmin. Don’t die now. We still have the Dragons to take care of. We need you. Come back to us.” Kyuhyun’s voice.
A bright light appeared in front of me and using all my strength, I reached for that light.
My eyes opened.
“Sungmin!” Everyone shouted.
I smiled weakly. “Hey guys.”
“Thank god your awake,” praised Yesung, eyes watery.
“Yeah.” Donghae rubbed his eyes. Kyuhyun smiled at me.
“I guess so.” I looked around. “Where am I?”
“You’re in my room,” answered Donghae. “Yesung came barging in on me telling me to save you. I wasn’t sure what was going on until he told me that it was Wylie again.”
“Wylie?” I asked. “Oh yeah. What happened to him? I don’t remember a thing.”
Yesung sighed. “Wylie tried to kill us both but that girl… she got killed trying to protect us.”
I sat all the way up on the bed. The world spun. “You mean Leesha? Leesha got killed by Wylie?”
Yesung nodded. “You should lay back down.”
“No.” I got off the bed, trying to find my balance. “I’m going to kill him. Leesha had nothing to do with this.”
“Sungmin,” said Kyuhyun. I looked at him. “There is nothing you can do.”
“But… Isn’t there something that we can do to get her back from… where ever?” I asked.
“There is no magic that can bring the dead back to life,” he said.
“Sungmin, lay back down,” pleaded Donghae.
I did as he said and laid on his bed.
“Sungmin. What did that girl want in the first place?” asked Kyuhyun.
“She told me that she didn’t want to be part of the Dragons anymore, that she was quiting to become one of us,” I told him.
Silience.
I closed my eyes.
“Sungmin? Are you okay?”
I opened my eyes. Donghae was staring at me. Yesung and Kyuhyun were gone.
“Yeah. Just a little dizzy.”
Donghae placed his hand on my forehead and sent power in me. It was the same tingling feeling from before. I felt better after he took his hand off me.
“Better?” he asked.
“Yeah. What did you do?” I asked.
He smiled. “Healing.”
“Cool. You still have to teach me, remember?”
“Yeah I do. I’ll teach you when you heal completely and finished your elemental trainings,” he began. “But right now, you have to be patient and heal.”
“Don’t worry about me.”
“Just go to sleep. Call me if you need anything.”
“Okay. And I’m sorry for sleeping in your bed.”
“Its okay. I still got the floor,” he joked.
I laughed and closed my eyes. Quickly enough, I was already in a deep sleep.
