Chapter 19

Flush it out of Your System

Tavia and Raymond entered the sushi buffet restaurant holding hands, they were happy together. “Table for two please,” Raymond said kindly to the hostess.

She bowed and led them to a table, “Enjoy,” she told them with a huge smile.

Raymond helped Tavia into a seat and told her he would be back with the food. He wanted to surprise her.

“You’re being awfully nice,” Tavia grinned at him.

“Aren't I all the time?” He grinned at her in return.

“Yeah, usually,” she replied. “Now hurry, I'm hungry.”

“Arite woman, I’ll be back,” he told her as he left to get some food for the both of them.

Tavia waited patiently for Raymond to return with the food and she remembered Bosco’s words from a few days back. She shook her head and reminded herself to ask Raymond about it and how his job was doing.

A few minutes later, Raymond returned with a tray full of food, sushi, udon noodle soup, miso soup, tempura, and all sorts of other Japanese cuisine. He set the tray down and took a seat next to Tavia. “You said you were hungry,” he grinned.

She examined the food hungrily and sniffed in the aroma of the food. “Yummy,” she said happily as they started to eat. Tavia picked up a sushi with her chopsticks and fed it to Raymond. Then she got one for herself.

Raymond chewed then looked at her and smiled. “It’s good.”

She nodded and grabbed a shrimp tempura and dipped it into the sauce.

He chuckled. “Hungry much, my dear?”

She nodded and took a bite out of the tempura. “Mmmm, so good.”

“Hey save some for me,” Raymond joked.

Tavia blushed and smacked him on the arm but didn't say anything as her mouth was full of food.

Raymond ate some of the udon noodles. “So is everything okay with Leila and
Bosco?” He asked as he drank some of the soup.

“Yeah, they'll be fine,” Tavia answered, “they just need to get to the fact that they like each other. If not sooner, then later.” She smiled at him.

“That's good, here you want some noodles,” he asked her pointing to the bowl in front of him.

“Later,” Tavia shook her head. “Hey Ray.” She had to get it out of her system.

“Yes, dear,” he answered with a small smile.

“Did u meet any new clients?” Tavia asked. “Female clients to be more specific.”

Raymond fidgeted. Where did this question come from? He knitted his brows together. “Well, yeah, I always do. It’s part of the business. I take them out to lunch with my dad sometimes. You know that whole thing about building a stronger relationship with them.”

Tavia smiled as she nodded as the thought of him being romantically involved with another woman flew out of her system. “Yeah. Understood. Okay let’s eat, I want some noodles.” She smiled widely at him.

He looked at her and smiled. ‘That was awfully weird,’ he thought to himself. ‘Does she know something? I better talk to Michelle and let her know how I really feel. This can't go on any longer.’ He pushed the bowl of noodles closer to her and fed her some noodles. She looked too happy, he couldn't ruin it for her now. Damnit Raymond, what have u done? You have dug yourself practically six feet under.

It was near closing at Wong’s Kim Long, and the employees were cleaning up. Leila was wiping up a corner table as Bosco came out from the kitchen getting ready to leave. He walked towards her, noticing how pretty she was even when she looked tired. Some of her hair was falling out of her pony tail and hung loosely around her face.

“Hey,” he said quietly as he reached her, “Need some help.”

She looked at him and remained silent. She remembered Tavia's advice and stood her ground. “No, but thanks. I'm just about done here.” She wiped the table up one more time quickly and made a move to march off.

He wasn't about to let her walk away from him again, he had made that mistake the last time. And the effects of that were not to his liking. The signals from his brain moved quickly and he grabbed her wrist firmly yet not too strong as to hurt her. “Wait,” he said.

She stopped in her tracks, her heart going overdrive. She felt the tingling sensation throughout her body as he touched her. She didn't turn around for fear of what will happen or how she would react.

“Leila, please look at me,” he said softly. He waited for her to move. “Please.”

She turned around slowly and looked him in the eyes, stay grounded. “What is it?” She asked him as best she could.

Bosco looked her in the eyes and told her, “I'm sorry. I really am.” He let go of her hand as he knew she wasn't going to run. “I was a total jackass for doing what I did.”

In her mind, she thought that he had meant the kiss. “Well I regret that we kis—”

“I didn't mean that, okay?” He looked at her surprised expression and continued, “I meant that I shouldn't have let you walk away that night. Look what it did to us.”

She smirked. “Yeah we've been going on and on in this unhealthy cycle.” Yes, he broke free, she softened a bit. She crossed her arms loosely over her chest after she tossed the table rag onto one of the tables.

He chuckled, “True, but seriously, I am sorry and I don't want us to be like this.” He looked at her, almost lost in a trance as he stared into her beautiful almond shaped eyes. “I have something to give you, but you better go freshen up a bit first,” he told her jokingly.

She eyed him through slits as she asked him, “What is it? It’s not a bomb is it?”

“Just go and get changed, clock out, do what you gota do and meet me at the front,” Bosco told her as he gripped her shoulders, turned her around and pushed her lightly back towards the kitchen.

“Okay, Jeeves, whatever you say,” she said, but was secretly smiling. She loved being able to talk to him again. It was simply wonderful.

He was grinning from ear to ear, but she didn't see this. He was happy that she spoke to him and he couldn't wait to see the look on her face when he gave her the box and when she saw what was in it.

When she was out of sight he went to retrieve the box he had gotten just the day before. He stood by the front just behind the fish tank, the box behind his back as he waited patiently for her to arrive. He tapped his foot lightly, his stomach feeling light and airy as butterflies started to take flight. Then he saw her emerge from the back of the restaurant, out from the kitchen, laughing at something his father probably told her. He smiled to himself. She better love this.

Leila looked at him and smiled as she made her way over to him. “Hey,” she said softly as she stepped foot in front of him.

“Hey,” Bosco said in return with a huge grin.

“So why is it that you told me to meet you here?” Leila asked him, still not understanding.

“Because,” Bosco said slowly, the grin still on his face. He moved the box from behind him and handed it to her. “For you.”

She looked at him in perplexity. “What's this for?” she asked as she made a move to take the box from his grasp.

“Don't ask, just take it and open it,” he replied.

“Okay then,” she opened the box slowly and her mouth dropped open. “Bosco, you
didn't .. Why?”

“Why not? You don't like it?” He asked her.

She lifted the coat up, it was a soft caramel colored coat. It was a new style and she didn't own one of these yet. “No, it’s not that. You didn't have to buy me this. I was really mad at that time and it was a while back.”

“But I wanted to, that's why I bought it. Some lady helped me out at the store, she told me it just came out and I was lucky enough to be there at that time or it would have been sold out.” He smiled sheepishly at her.

“This isn't just a pity present is it,” she asked, her voice a little more strong as she remembered Natalie wearing a coat the other day. “Because—”

“No, no it's not,” Bosco answered quickly, interrupting her because he knew where she was heading at with her next words. “That coat you saw Natalie wearing was supposed to be for you, but she just grabbed it from me and you know the rest.”

“For me?” She asked, bewildered.

“Yes, and Natalie isn't my girl, I don't have any interest in her than just a friend,” he said in a serious tone.

“You don't have to explain anything to me,” she said as she shook her head lightly, not looking at him.

“Yes, I do, I want to, I need to. I was going to apologize for that night at Eric’s party.” He told her, “I don't regret what we shared, you know that, the kiss.” He saw her lips forming into a smile but it was only brief.

She looked at him, “Well thanks for the jacket. But I still regret, you know, this kiss,” she said, smiling to herself as she saw the expression on his face. Classic. She tried on the coat and examined it on her as he became flustered.

“Wait, what? So u meant that you really did regret it?” Bosco asked her, sounding a bit disheartened. “I—I guess—”

She twirled around in the coat once, “How does it look? I love it Bosco, thanks. I was going to try and get it but I didn't have the time or energy.” She smiled brightly at him as if what she had said earlier had no effect on her or him.

“Yeah, it looks great on you,” he said, “But, did you really mean the regret part? I mean,
I—I think I l-l—”

He was cut off by the feel of her lips on his, moving in soft, sensuous motions. He kissed her back and wrapped his arms around her waist as she did the same.

His parents came out of the kitchen and his dad was about to tell him not to forget to lock the front door when his wife stopped him. “Shh!” she said as she put a finger to her lips.

Mr. Wong smiled as they both looked at their son and Leila, who were locked in an embrace—they looked happy.
