Chapter 2

Sweet Revenge, Or Is It?

Tavia decided to try to patch things up, thinking back to the Tong party’s incident between Bosco and Leila. She didn’t want to be caught in the middle of the battle between her two good friends. She called up Leila to have lunch with her at Bosco’s family restaurant, Wong’s Kim Long, located in San Francisco’s Chinatown.

Tavia drove down to Leila’s house and picked her up. “Ready for lunch?” she asked Leila as she sat in her car.

“Yep. This is going to be something new. I like it,” she grinned at Tavia. “Let’s go.”

Tavia parked her car and she and Leila walked amongst the crowd and stopped in front of Wong’s Kim Long. They stepped into the restaurant and Leila’s face immediately turned into a stunned look, her eyes wide, looking at Tavia. This definitely wasn’t the ‘something new’ she thought it would be. It was loud and noisy with all the talking and clanking of the chinaware. She wasn’t used to this and didn’t like it at all. Leila thought it would be quiet and peaceful.

Tavia took her to an empty table and sat down. Bosco saw them from afar and noticed Leila, “Oh, it’s her,” he gritted through his teeth. “I’ll show her.”

“What is it, son?” Mr. Wong asked.

“Oh, nothing dad. I’m going to take care of Tavia over there,” he pointed to their table and his father nodded.

Bosco picked up two glasses and filled them with milk tea. He walked over to their table, “Hey Tavia, you having lunch with Miss Tong today?” He asked rather politely.

Tavia smiled and said, “Yep. I decided to take her out and try something different.”

Leila observed his attire with distaste, Bosco was dressed in a t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers that were almost worn out, they were his favorite sneakers. As he put the milk tea down, some of it spilled onto his hands and the table. When he was shaking it off, some of it splattered onto Leila’s face, she was totally grossed out and outraged.

He was just about to walk away when she said aloud with a hint of attitude in her voice, “EXCUSE YOU MISTER! Apologize please, you splat some tea on my face,” she said, wiping her face with a tissue. “Oh! And wipe the table please, it’s sticky.” Leila demanded while giving a disgusted look at the table and around the place.

Bosco was about to say something when Tavia cut in to introduce the two to each other before there were any more confrontations. “Leila, this is my long time good friend, Bosco. And Bosco, this is one of my best friend’s, Leila.” Tavia said hoping they would stop arguing.

Bosco sneezed and he wiped his nose with his hand then held out it out for a handshake. Leila was staring at his hand, appalled. He looked at her expression and said, “Oh, I’m sorry,” and wiped his hand on his shirt.

“Ewww! How gross!” Leila stated. He darted his eyes at her and she did the same.

“Umm, excuse me, Bosco, is it? The table isn’t going to clean itself,” Leila continued.

“Uhh, there are the napkins,” he pointed to the napkin dispenser, “you can wipe it yourself.” Bosco retorted, walking towards the kitchen.

“OH MY GOSH! Did you just witness that Tavia? Bad service, he has no manners. Tavia let’s go somewhere MORE decent.” Leila stated out loud, wanting Bosco to hear every word she said.

“Leila, forget it. Just let it go. It’s a minor accident, here let me wipe it.” Tavia said because she didn’t want any trouble.

“Tavia, it’s not your job to clean it up. It’s supposed to be his job. He works here, not you!” Leila proclaimed as she pointed to Bosco, his back to them.

At that moment, Bosco wanted to wring her neck because she was just too much. He turned around, gave a forced smile, and walked over to clean their table. “HAPPY NOW MISS?” Bosco asked her, annoyed.

“As a matter of fact, NO! You missed a spot.” Leila retorted.

Bosco’s head was about to explode, he couldn’t stand her any longer.

“Leila, that’s enough. Don’t cause trouble please, for me?” Tavia pleaded with her.

“Oh! Nevermind, my mistake. You can go now,” Leila said.

As Bosco walked away, he mumbled under his breath, “Maybe you should go to the doctor and have your eyes checked, you crazy bitch.”

Leila heard him and as much as she wanted to make Tavia happy, she couldn’t let that go. “Excuse me,” Leila asked him unpleasantly, “did you want to say something to me?”

Bosco turned around again and smiled sweetly, “Oh no, nothing.”

“Yeah, I thought so,” Leila said arrogantly.

Bosco’s face twisted but he saw Tavia give him a pleading look and he stopped. He turned back around and walked into the kitchen muttering under his breath, “Oh that girl has the nerve. Coming into MY family restaurant with an attitude like that. She didn’t even apologize to me for that incident at the party.”

“Why are you talking to yourself son?” His father asked him.

Bosco looked up to see his dad staring at him. “Oh, it’s nothing dad, I was reciting this poem I read the other day.” He smiled and helped his dad out. His dad nodded but still gave him an odd look.

Out in the restaurant, Tavia talked to Leila. “Just give this place a chance, they got the best food in the area. Bosco does have his flaws but he’s a nice guy once you get to know him. You guys are both my friends and I don’t want to have to choose between the two of you.”

Leila looked at her and her heart softened, “Okay Tavia, just for you. But he was so rude to me, you saw it.”

“Yeah but I doubt he meant it. You were a little harsh on him at your father’s party.” Tavia said.

Leila thought back to that day and said, “Yeah I know, I was and I felt really bad. Stupid bitch Myolie. Oh she had the nerve. If I knew… ahhh, I should apologize. I need to go to the restroom first to wash up.”

“Okay, it’s at the back,” Tavia pointed to the rear corner of the restaurant near the kitchen.

Leila stood up and told Tavia, “I’ll be back.” She walked off towards the restroom and entered. She looked around with a look of uncertainty on her face. It wasn’t like what she was used to, so she wasn’t comfortable and forced herself to use it. She covered the toilet seat with the seat protectors and proceeded.

When she was done, she stepped out of the restroom and made a face, “Eek, that wasn’t a good experience. They need to clean it up a bit more and put some air freshener in there.”

Since the kitchen was close to the restroom, Bosco was standing there, unbeknownst to her, and heard everything that came out of her pretty-little-rich-girl mouth. He thought she was being quite rude so he purposely tripped and spilled his soda on her coat as he passed by her. He smirked, “Oops, my bad.”

“What the heck is your problem?” She screeched at him. She was going to apologize to him for the incident at her father’s party but now that was far from her mind. Her coat was drenched in sticky soda.

“What? Are you going to call me STUPID again, missy?” he fired back, still upset about that incident.

Tavia saw them and ran over to them, “Guys, what are you two doing?” She asked looking between the two, surprised. “Leila, your coat….”

“UGH. YEAH. HE RUINED IT! …AGAIN, might I add.” She said trying to wipe down the liquid and absorbed it into some napkins.

“I haven’t ruined your coat. It was your dress and that was an accident.” Bosco told her, a matter-of-factly.

“You know what I meant,” she hissed. “You’re going to pay for this and buy me a new coat.”

“Who said I was? I believe you have no authority over me.” Bosco sneered.

“Oh you…” Leila started.

‘Uh oh’, Tavia thought, ‘this isn’t good’. She stepped in, “Leila, it’s okay, let’s go.” She looked at Bosco who looked back at her innocently, “What?” he asked her.

She shook her head, “Bosco…. Come on Leila, don’t worry about it. That’s just one of your million coats.”

Leila remained quiet, her eyes on Bosco, staring him down. He looked back at her and swore he saw a hint of tears glistening in her eyes. She was fighting them back. He felt a little sorry for what he did, but didn’t apologize.

“Jerk,” she muttered under her breath and stomped out of the restaurant.

Tavia’s eyes followed her, “Bosco, you shouldn’t have done that, she was going to apologize to you.”

“What, you thought I did that intentionally?” He asked her with guilt building inside him.

“I know you Bosco.” Tavia said softly, squeezing his shoulder. “I’m gonna go see what I can do to cheer her up. See you later.” She walked off after Leila.

Bosco stared at the floor and sighed heavily. “Great job, Bosco. Way to go. Whoopee.” He muttered.

“Bosco stop talking to yourself, you’re starting to worry me,” his dad said as he passed by. This eased him a little and made him break into a smile.
