Mrs. Tong looked at her daughter and let out a small smile. “Leila, dear, your father knows that he was wrong to do what he did. He just doesn’t know how to express his feelings much. You know that he cares for you and hiding something like this from us was something that just blew his fuse. He didn’t expect his daughter to do such a thing.” She patted Leila’s shoulder softly.
“I didn’t mean to keep it from you two,” Leila started speaking softly, “I just knew that you two wouldn’t approve of it and I needed some way to do it without being caught. I guess it failed me,” she laughed bitterly.
“You really like this Bosco guy, am I right?” Mrs. Tong asked abruptly, taking a good look at Leila.
Leila looked to her mother, surprised. “What? I mean how did we get to talking about this?”
Mrs. Tong laughed lightly. “Leila, you can’t fool your mother. I know that look in your eyes, and the heartache that you feel right now.”
Leila looked thoughtfully at her mother and waited for her to go on speaking.
“I had felt that too, but not with your dad,” Mrs. Tong continued her story.
“What?” Leila asked with shock, “You mean you were taken away from someone you loved more than dad?”
Mrs. Tong nodded. “Sad, isn’t it? I mean your father was a great man, he had the money, the looks, and everything but it took me a while to finally fall in love with him since my heart belonged to another.”
“Why?” Leila asked, her heart breaking for her mom’s past heartbreaking experience.
“My father wanted the best for me too, but back then I wasn’t brave enough to disobey him,” Mrs. Tong replied with a grin, “not like women now these days, they know what they want and they know how to go about getting it.”
Leila let out a soft chuckle. “Sometimes,” she then looked to her mother, “Sorry about what happened mom.”
“No, don’t be, I love your father with all my heart.” Mrs. Tong replied as she rubbed at her daughter’s back. “We learned to love each other a long time ago.” She looked to Leila with a small smile, “And we decided long ago that we wouldn’t do that to any of our children.”
Leila looked confused, “But dad just said that—”
“Like I said, he was just angry, he just spat his words out like nothing,” Mrs. Tong reassured her daughter. “We know that this Bosco kid is a good guy. He tried so hard to impress us at the opening ball.” Mrs. Tong grinned as she remembered being introduced to Bosco for the first time.
Leila let out a laugh, “You caught that huh? He was hilarious.”
“Leila we are not going to hold you back from someone that you love,” Mrs. Tong smiled lovingly at her daughter as they embraced in a tight hug.
“Thanks mom, I love you,” Leila said softly as she smiled through a fresh batch of tears.
“I love you too, honey,” her mother replied with glistening eyes.

Leila woke up late the next morning, seeing as the clock displayed a time close to noon. She bolted down the stairs to see if she was able to catch her parents at a late breakfast. But she was met with a quiet house full of emptiness. She frowned and wondered where they could be. She ran back up the stairs and knock on their bedroom door, maybe they were still asleep.
“Mom, dad?” she called out before turning the knob to open the door. The room was empty and the bed was made. Weird. Leila turned around and saw her maid, Mrs. Yip.
“Good morning Leila, finally woke up, huh?” Mrs. Yip said with a huge smile.
“Morning, Mrs. Yip,” Leila replied as her eyebrows knotted together. “Have you seen mom and dad?”
“They left earlier this morning but they didn’t tell me where they were going,” Mrs. Yip replied, “No message or anything.”
“Okay, thanks Mrs. Yip,” Leila replied before heading back into her room. She was hoping she could speak to her dad face to face. Leila reached for her cell phone and dialed her father. The phone rang several times before she was met with his voicemail. She quickly hung up the call; she didn’t want to bother with the voicemail.
Leila then remembered Bosco; she hadn’t spoken to him since last night. Before she made a call to him, she went to her closet and retrieved a bag with a box. She brought it over to her bed and pulled out the box to open it. Leila smiled at its contents. “This is very much needed,” she said with a grin while putting the box back into the bag.

Leila shifted her car into park and stepped out with her belongings, remembering to grab the bag she retrieved from her closet earlier. She headed towards Wong’s Kim Long in comfortable strides, a small smile playing on her lips as she remembered her mother’s words the night before. Although she didn’t have to make-up with Bosco for anything because—well they didn’t have a fight in the first place, she felt like this was the right opportunity to offer a special gift to him.
Leila reached the entrance and pulled the door open to enter the already busy restaurant. She looked around quickly, hoping to catch sight of Bosco, but he seemed nonexistent at this busy hour. Leila curled her lips in confusion before taking a step to head to the kitchen. A loud familiar laugh soon stopped her in her tracks. She turned her head to see her very own father chatting it up with Mr. Wong alongside him was her mother.
Leila’s eyes grew wide with shock. What were they doing here? This was all too weird. She then marched her way over to them. “Dad? Mom?” she asked hesitantly. “Mr. Wong?” She looked at the three of them sitting at a table, having a comfortable conversation. What was going on?
“Leila dear!” Mr. Wong greeted her cheerfully, “Your parents and I were just having a conversation.”
Leila smiled back at Mr. Wong before looking to her parents for some kind of reasonable explanation. Her mother didn’t want to speak so she finally met eyes with her father. He smiled at her softly before speaking.
“Leila, honey, I came to apologize for my rude behavior last night,” Mr. Tong said calmly. “I was wrong, you know how I get. I just wanted the best for you.”
Leila smiled at her father. “Don’t worry about it dad, mom told me everything. Thanks.” She went over to her father and gave him a small hug.
Mr. Wong and Mrs. Tong exchanged looks before giving Mr. Tong a look, signaling him to speak.
“Oh right,” Mr. Tong said as he remembered a special message he was to deliver to Leila. He smiled widely at his daughter, taking in her happiness. “Leila, a certain someone has told me to let you know he will be at the park, a block away.”
Leila was surprised at first but she soon grinned widely. “Thanks dad,” she said before giving him a soft kiss on the cheek. “Love you guys. I’ll see you later.” Leila gave them a small wave before heading out of the restaurant in a hurry.

Bosco sat on a bench, lazily picking at the imaginary lint on his jeans. “Where is she?” he asked himself softly. He lifted his head up to look over at the kids playing on the playground. Without looking, he felt for the bag he had brought with him, but it wasn’t there. He tore his eyes from the playground to look next to him. Where was the bag? He looked around frantically before he heard an all too familiar voice. A voice he longed to hear every day of his life.
“Looking for this?” her voice played softly from her lips.
Bosco turned around fully to see Leila holding the bag that he had brought with him. He grinned widely, “Well yeah, as a matter of fact, I was.”
Leila walked over to sit next to him. “Better keep an eye on it next time.” She grinned at him in return, her eyes teased him.
“If you don’t know by now, it’s actually for you,” he smirked at her before scooting in to put an arm around her shoulders. He kissed her softly near her temple.
Leila rolled her eyes playfully. “Let me guess, fried tofu and milk tea?” she asked looking up at him, her tongue peeking out from between her lips as she smiled.
Bosco nodded with a chuckle. “I figured it was something that would make you feel better.”
“Thanks Bosco, I already feel better being right here next to you.” She leaned in and pecked his cheek softly. “I have something for you too.”
Bosco moved slighty, surprised by a sudden surprise. He knotted his eyebrows together and looked at her at an angle. “You do?” he asked her, still in disbelief.
Leila nodded, “Yup, and I think you’d put it to good use.” She reached for the bag by her foot and handed it to him. “Well you better put it to good use.”
Bosco took the bag from her, “Thanks Lei, but you really shouldn’t buy me things. Are you trying to bribe me?”
“Just open it,” Leila retorted as she watched him pull the box out of the bag. “And I DID have to buy you this particular gift,” she added as she looked at the ground towards his feet. “I really did,” she giggled softly to herself.
Bosco lifted the lid of the box and his eyes popped open wider. “What the…?”
Leila laughed out loud at his reaction before asking, “So do you like it?” She nudged him lightly to get a response.
“Thanks Lei,” Bosco said, lifting the item from the box. “But did you really have to buy me new shoes? What’s wrong with the ones I have on?” he asked as he looked at the shoes he had on, wiggling his toes inside for more effect.
Leila burst out laughing before she twisted her face into a look of disgust. “Eww, look at that, your toes are almost popping out. Gross.” Leila made a gesture of a gag. “Those were the same shoes you wore when I met you at the restaurant.”
“So?” Bosco retorted. “I can always have my mom patch it up.”
“Bosco, honey,” Leila started with a pat on his head, “save your mom the time and get some new shoes. What are you trying to do, kill her with that nasty smell?” Leila pinched her nose, pretending the stench from his shoes were awfully strong.
Bosco smirked at her before he leaned over and gave her a small kiss on the lips. “Thanks Lei, I love them.” He then gave her a hopeful look, “You want to help me put them on?”
Leila burst into laughter. “Are you kidding me? Never in my life would I put my hands on those shoes.” She said, pointing to his old, worn-out shoes, with her other hand over her mouth.
Bosco rolled his eyes before looking at Leila with sarcasm. “Yeah thanks a lot babe, I love you too.”
THE END.
