Chapter 12

Longer Part 2

“Nadine! Buenos dias!” Changmin heard Junsu squeaked. “I got it right didn’t I?”

Changmin slipped a note to the cashier and rolled his eyes. So this is why Junsu had been trying out his new language for. To impress a girl. “Pffft…typical of him” he muttered as he waited for their order to come out.

“Yeap, you got that right” Changmin heard the girl replied. He heard both of them coming to where he was standing and he braced himself to hear his hyung’s gloating of his new found friend.

“So you come here often for breakfast as well?” Junsu was saying. “No, Ga-In actually invited us for a special breakfast. Ri-In’s upstairs by the way. I came down to get ketchup” the girl told him.

Changmin busied himself by fiddling with the stack of paper tissues in front of him when Junsu tapped his shoulder. “Yah Changmin, I’m going upstairs for a while. I’ll be back in a minute” Junsu told him and he sprinted off.

Changmin spun around to tell Junsu to hurry up but the older guy already disappeared from his sight. Even the girl who he had left behind had a disbelief look on her face but then she chuckled to herself. “So sorry about that. He’s…quite the impromptu guy” Changmin apologized on Junsu’s behalf.

The girl shook her head and joined him at the counter. “Nah, I’m used to it” she replied, looking around for something.

“Used to it? You know Junsu?” Changmin questioned her. He immediately noticed her dark green eyes which were lightly outline with dark black eyeliner. He tore his gaze away and focused on the tiny scratch on the wooden surface instead.

“Ah, found it!” she cried out all of a sudden, holding up a bottle of ketchup with a flourish face. Changmin can’t help but smile at her kiddish behavior. Just then her phone started ringing, and she quickly whipped it our from her jeans pocket and answered it.

Changmin glanced at his watch wondering when Junsu will come down after his little chat with whoever is upstairs. Ga-In then popped out from the kitchen with his orders. “Here you go. Oh, where’s Junsu?” she asked.

“I don’t know. He went upstairs to see someone” Changmin told her, opening one of the bag and inhaling the food inside. “Yaaaah…that smells so good!” he complimented her.

“Careful Changmin, you’re drooling” Ga-In mocked him. “I bet Junsu went to see Ri-In. She’s the girl whom he brought to the hospital last few weeks. He’s quite the hero eh?” she said, before disappearing into the kitchen again.

At the same time, the girl beside him hung up her phone with a depressed sigh. She then hit a few buttons and brought the phone back to her ear. “Hello..Dana..yes..no I’m sorry sweetie. I couldn’t get the sponsor. They’re not willing to help us. Help me spread the word okay?....Hmm..ok..I’ll try to look for more. Thanks..bye..you take care too..mm-hmm..see you on Monday”

When she was done talking, Changmin could not help but to observe her disappointment. She was simply standing there, rooted to the ground, staring at her phone. He was about to ask if she was alright when she sauntered off to the stairs.

“Wait! You forgot this” Changmin called out after her. Changmin handed her the bottle of ketchup and she feebly took it in her hands with a nervous laughter. “Oh yeah. How could I forget…thanks” she replied with a dead tone and turned back to climb up the stairs.

Changmin shrugged and was about to go back to the counter when she called out to him. “You don’t happen to know any companies or firm that reaches out to schools, personnel or entities that are in need of extra fund?” she popped him the question. Before Changmin could even reply, she shook her head. “Nah..it’s ok. It’s just a random question. Forget I ask”

“W..wait! I know who can help” Changmin offered, chasing her up the stairs. When the girl stopped and faced him at the landing, their bodies almost got slammed and Changmin’s arm shot out to steady her swaying figure.

The girl mumbled a thanks and slowly slipped out her left arm from his grasp. “S..sorry a..about that. You were about to---

“You were saying?” the girl interrupted, straightening her back and probably trying to erase the awkward moment that had just happened.

“My company can help you for the funding. We’ll be interested to assist you” Changmin told her, with a nod.

“Really? Are you sure?” the girl pointed out, with an air of uncertainty.

Changmin nodded and was about to explain more when Junsu called out to him from the corner of the room. “What are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be downstairs? Where’s our order?” Junsu demanded.

“It’s ready..and it’s downstairs. But Junsu, we finally found ourselves a client!” Changmin told him excitedly, gesturing to the girl in front of him.

“Eh? Nadine?” Junsu asked. “So her name’s Nadine” Changmin thought as both guys stared at the girl in the pale yellow sweater and dark blue jeans with the reddish-brown ponytail swaying down her back.

“Look, maybe we should sit down and talk things out. It’s kinda messy, why don’t you guys join me and Ri In” Nadine told them, ushering them to where they were sitting.

Another girl, with dark brown wavy hair, was already seated and she gave Changmin a quizzical look. “Who’s this?” she asked her friend.

“Someone who can help me” Nadine replied with a hopeful tone in her voice.

“For the funding? Serious? This better be a good one. Cause I’m sick of hearing all those other firms rejecting your proposal” Ri In said, leaning on the sofa.

“Ex-Pac won’t reject your proposal. Trust me. Hyung, get the food downstairs. We’ve got some serious brainstorming to do right now” Changmin ordered.

Junsu stared at him openmouthed. “WHAT? You left it there, you get it!” he scolded him. There was a moment of silence as three pairs of eyes stared at him and he finally gave in with a frustrated sigh and stomped his way downstairs.

“You shouldn’t— “ Nadine said but Changmin butted in. “Nah, he’s used to people bullying him” he said with a twinkle in his eyes.

Nadine and Ri In laughed when Junsu came back with a pout. He dumped the food on the table and Changmin shook his head. “You better make a good impression. She’s going to be our client now and the President won’t be please if she complains about your tantrums”

“Nadine won’t do that. We’re buddies! Right?” Junsu asked, giving her a toothy grin.

Nadine pretended to consider what he said. “Well….I might say a thing or two---“

“Yah! That’s no fair! Ok fine. I’ll be serious from now on!” Junsu quickly said, gaining his composure and clearing his throat.

“Tsk…” Changmin muttered but then he focused his attention on Nadine, his potential client. “So..you were saying?”
