“Had too much coffee this morning?” Sun Ye asked, poking her salad.
Leeteuk made a disgusted face as he walked past them. “You know I don’t like that stuff” he said, taking a tea bag from a box near the coffee machine and dumping it into his mug.
“How come?” Nadine asked, finishing her soup.
“Cause it will make him feels nauseous” Sun Ye told her, getting up to discard her unfinished lunch. When she saw Nadine’s skeptical face, she nodded. “I know..he’s a weird guy. Get used to it” she said. Just as she was about to throw her salad, Leeteuk stopped her.
“Wasted! Give it to me!” Leeteuk said, grabbing her lunch. Sun Ye raised her eyebrows. “It’s not THAT nice. There’s not enough salad dressing and the lettuce looks dead. Seriously, they should just get another cafeteria lady for the Salad Corner. She’s SUPER stingy!” Sun Ye said, washing her hands.
“But food is food, and you shouldn’t waste it” Leeteuk said through a mouthful of greens. “Oh by the way Nadine, I heard about the good news! Congrats on the funding!”
Nadine grimaced when she saw a piece of lettuce stuck on Leeteuk’s front teeth while Sun Ye laughed at her reaction. Leeteuk quickly covered his mouth bashfully.
“And I heard that the guys from Ex-Pac are graduates from this school as well?” Sun Ye asked, leaning against the sink.
Nadine nodded. “Yeah, one of them mentioned that they didn’t expect that it will be Iseul High and that it feels good to be giving back to the school. They are friends of Yoochun as well”
“Oohh..speaking of Yoochun, I need to go talk to him. See you ladies later!” Leeteuk told then and left the room.
“Hey! That was just an excuse not to clear up the mess” Sun Ye called out but Leeteuk has already disappeared. Sun Ye grumbled under breath as she cleaned up Leeteuk’s mess and tossed it into the bin.
Nadine got up and did the same. She glanced at the clock and gasped. “They’re going to be here any minute. I told them I’ll meet them at the main building. I better get going” she told Sun Ye.
As Nadine clomped down the stairs to get the entrance, she heard two cars screeching into the parking lot. She recognized one of the cars to be Junus and she was right. The guy stepped out of vehicle, whooping with joy in his usual high pitched voice. Nadine reached the first floor and watched as Changmin, the one who had agreed to help her, killed the engine, slammed the door shut and threw Junsu a pissed look. “What was that for? You could have gotten me killed!” he was saying.
“I know about your evil plan! You’re going to rat it out to Nadine aren’t you?” Junsu questioned him.
“About what?” Nadine suddenly spoke up. The two boys froze and Nadine chuckled seeing them like two deers getting caught in the headlights. Changmin’s face had turned into a slight shade of pink while Junsu’s was super red. Nadine had no idea whether it was from embarrassment or the fact he had just raced his way to the school.
“Come on you guys. Are you going to come up or stand there the whole day?” Nadine asked them, as she walked away and turned to her left, heading to the Art studio. She smiled to herself when she heard footsteps behind her and murmured argument.
“Um..Miss Arena. I apologized for the outburst just now. Really really sorry about it” Changmin told her, as he fell in step beside her. Nadine told him it was not a problem, although she was wondering what Junsu meant by “rat it out to Nadine”. She assumed it was some kind of private joke, so she decided to not think so much about it.
As the trio made their way to the Art Studio, Junsu and Changmin were overwhelmed as to how the school had undergone several changes. “I can’t believe they didn’t remove that tree! Look at how huge it is right now!” Junsu exclaimed.
“It’s infested with red ants now. No one dares to go near it” Nadine told him.
Junsu’s face fell. “Gah..what a shame. That used to be our eating spot. You think our carvings are still there?” he wondered.
“What did you carved?” Nadine wanted to know.
“Mainly about how we hated certain teachers and carved in funny faces of them. And our hopes and dreams” Changmin told her.
“That’s it? That’s lame! I thought those kind of carving nonsense are usually reserved for lovers. You draw little hearts and jot down “so-and-so forever till end of time”..stuff like that?” Nadine said.
“Now THAT’s lame!” Junsu intervened. “Unless you happen to do that during your high school days” he said, nudging Nadine.
Nadine huffed. “So what if I did that? It’s normal for teenagers to be delusional when they fall in love” she pointed out.
Both Junsu and Changmin started teasing her and Nadine felt her face redden. “Tell us! What did you wrote? It’s got to be something sappy!” Junsu said, squealing like a little boy.
“Nah, I think it’s something poetic. She’s an Art teacher! Aren’t artist supposed to link themselves easily with romance and infatuation?” Changmin gave Nadine a wink and she felt her stomach did a little somersault. Okay, so she was a little bit taken back by that sudden act….
“Oohhh..just like Yoochun hyung! He was such a player back then. Always good with words and making the girls fall at his feet. I hated it when he’s doing that” Junsu said, crossing his arms. “Ah….Nadine, don’t tell Hyung I said that!” he added, looking alarmed.
“I won’t, but don’t blame me if it happen to slip out” Nadine said, with a sly grin.
Junsu groaned. “Not you too! What is it with you people today?! Stop picking on me” he fumed. First it’s Yunho, and then Changmin. And now it’s Nadine! Why..Why me?! What have I done?!!” he complained.
Nadine and Changmin burst out laughing at Junsu’s comical act. Just then the door to the Art studio swung opened and Taemin stepped out, looking a bit bewildered. “Miss Arena? Everyone’s waiting” he said, looking doubtfully at Junsu.
Nadine calmed herself down and walked over to her student with Changmin and Junsu following closely behind. Her 23 Art students had arranged the chairs in a circle in the middle of the room, making it look more like a dialogue session. Nadine heard Changmin let out a low whistle when they entered.
“Honestly speaking, I’ve never been in this room before” Changmin told the class.
“How come?” Dana asked.
“Because he’s a Science geek” Junsu replied. “Only spends his time in the lab with the rats” The room tittered with laughter and Nadine saw Changmin giving Junsu a dirty look.
The three adults took their seat and waited for everyone to settle down.
“Shall we begin?”
