Chapter 18

Black Roses Red Part 2

“Hmmm..I was thinking of teal actually” Han Seung Yeon said, changing her mind for the fifth time that morning. She sashayed across the room, her arms on her waist and dragging the silk drapery behind her.

Changmin heard a few of his team members complaining under their breath. “Ohmeegosh! She’s totally sweeping the floor with that cloth!” one of them fumed.

“Easy guys. Don’t blow up” Changmin warned them observing the female celebrity observing the room and holding out the drapery to see if the color suits the theme.

“Changmin-shii” Seung Yeon asked as she walked back to where he was standing. “I need your opinion. What do you think? Teal? Will that do?” she asked, tossing the cloth on the table like a dead animal.

“Well, since you ask. I personally think you should use both warm and cool colors. Since your clothing line will be held in spring, I think it will be appropriate. I read somewhere that your color philosophy is like a designer’s signature shade” Changmin told her.

“Chincha? So what do YOU think will be my signature shade then?” SY asked, standing slightly closer to him.

Changmin cleared his throat and he was aware that some of his team mates were exchanging cheeky looks. Ever since Mr Jung made a slip up at the theater, there was constant teasing about it and it doesn’t get old.

“W..well. I noticed you like purple a lot---

SY laughed and Changmin glanced at his team who was trying hard not laugh out loud. Okay, so maybe SY does not have the best laughter….

“Oh Changmin-shii! I LOVE purple. I ADORE them. Did you know that they are the colors of romance?” SY asked, batting her eyelashes. Changmin noticed that she had placed her hand on his arm and by the looks of it, she would let go of it anytime.

Changmin gulped. “Well, this sucks” he thought. Just then the door to swing open and Yunho entered wiping his suit and looking rather peeved.

“Ah Yunho! Just the man I was looking for” SY cried out and ran to him. “I need your opinion…oh! What happened to your suit?”

Changmin wiped his brow and one of his team members shook his head. “She’s ALL OVER you” he commented.

“Yah..stop it okay. She’s…scaring me” Changmin admitted in a small voice as he arranged the different colors of draperies on the table in front of them.

“I didn’t know she will be THIS fussy. She can’t even decide on the colors and that’s ONLY number five on the agenda. There’s 314567234 more to go!” someone commented, pointing to the list she was holding.

“Guys..guys..Yunho’s coming. Hold you horses” Changmin warned them through gritted teeth. The VP walked over to them while SY went off to her stylists waiting for her at the corner of the room, complaining something about her make-up running.

“Man, she’s getting tougher” Yunho muttered, joining them. The whole table stared at him. Yunho raised his eyebrows. “What?” he asked.

“Nothing. It’s just surprising, coming from you” Changmin told him. Yunho nodded. “You know what; maybe we should all go for break. It’s almost lunch time anyway” he told them.

The team gratefully went off to their lunch. Changmin then noticed the stain on Yunho’s suit. “Hyung, what happened? That’s not bird dropping right?”

Yunho chuckled. “No, thank God. I bumped onto someone along the way. I think she was from some clay making class or something. Her hands were still wet with clay and when we bumped onto each other, some of them got on me. It’s a good thing I bought a spare coat in my car. I’ll get change and see you later ok?”

“Araso” Changmin told him. He watched as Yunho walked down the stairs and then Changmin proceed to go to the Garden Terrace Café to grab a bite. Suddenly it struck him that today was the day Nadine and her class were having their trip to the National Arts Centre and attending the pottery class. He hurried to the eating area to see that it was already crowded. He spotted a familiar looking boy and he immediately recognized him as Taemin, the talkative student during the dialogue session.

"Mr. Shim!” Taemin called out to him, waving him over to the table where the class was sitting and having their lunch. But the teacher was nowhere in sight.

“You guys here for the class?” he asked. The student nodded. “Never knew gooey stuff can be so much fun!” someone remarked.

“Where’s your teacher?” Changmin wanted to know. Taemin shrugged. “Maybe she’s still in the washroom” he said.

Changmin nodded. “Alright then. Enjoy your meal!” he said. He soon proceeded to order his food when he caught sight of Nadine coming down the stairs and entering the café. He took in her black turtleneck sweater and jeans that were hugging her slim figure and he immediately brushed the thought away. “Aish!” he cursed himself.

Changmin watched as Nadine checked out the menu and then simply walking past him, with a clueless expression. “Miss Arena!” he called out. Nadine spun around and raised her eyebrows. “Mr. Shim? What are you doing here?” she asked, coming over.

“For a project. I assume the pottery class was a success? Your students couldn’t stop talking about it” Changmin told her.

Nadine nodded but he noticed that she was looking distracted. “Is…everything okay?” Changmin asked, concerned.

“Well…I…sort of dirtied someone’s suit just now..with the clay. And h..he doesn’t look happy. I mean, he kept saying it’s alright, but that was one hell of an Armani suit! I even offered to pay for the dry cleaning payment---

“Aaah! You must have bumped into our VP!” Changmin declared, smiling down at her.

“Eh? Your VP?!! That’s even worse!” Nadine squeaked shaking her head. Changmin patted her shoulder. “Nah, don’t worry. He’s cool about it. Chincha” he assured her. “So what do you feel like eating today?” he asked, changing the subject.

“Huh? I don’t know. I don’t feel hungry all of sudden” Nadine told him. Changmin wagged a finger at her. “It’s bad to skip your meals. Come, choose what you want. My treat” he offered.

Nadine looked up at him. “W..wae? Y..you don’t have t..to” she stammered, her cheeks turning slightly red.

“But I insist! And it’s such a nice weather to be eating out here” Changmin told her. He pushed her to a food stall and told her to make an order. He was slightly surprised when Nadine ended up having the dakgalbi, the spicy stir-fired chicken dish.

“I like spicy food…and yes, I am quite the big eater myself” Nadine told him as they took their places. They were seated at the front area of the open terrace café, overlooking the huge city. The light breeze and the smell of rosemary from the garden below all add up to a soothing atmosphere. Changmin breathed in the refreshing scent and whistled. “This…is the life” he told Nadine, sitting across from her.

Nadine smiled. “Did…you know that the rosemary doesn’t have anything to do with ‘rose’ or the name ‘Mary’?” she told him.

“Chincha? Then how did the name came about?” Changmin wanted to know. As Nadine went to explain about the plant’s background and from there they start talking about random stuff. He learned that Nadine likes salty tuff after he pointed out that she needed to quit taking the salt shaker and putting it inside her dish. Nadine had laughed and he wished that SY had that kind of laughter, unlike the hyena one she has.

“Han..Seung Yeon? The actress?” Nadine wondered when Changmin was telling her about his current job. “Oh! I think I know her! I remembered watching one of her dramas. What was the name again? Crossroad Lovers?” she asked, tapping her chin.

Changmin nodded, impressed with her. “Wow. You seem to know more about her more than I do!” he exclaimed.

Nadine laughed again. “Aniya, it’s just stuff that I happened to come across or something that I’m interested in. For example, learning the Korean language—

“Which, you picked up very fast and is speaking fluently. I have to say, I’m impressed with you” Changmin commented, leaning forward and staring at her.

Nadine toyed with the straw of her drink and when their eyes caught, she quickly looked away. Changmin bit his lip and looked down at his empty plate. “I..umm..I think I should take my leave now. The students are waiting” Nadine told him as she got up.

“Ah..o..k” Changmin said, standing up, unsure of what to do.

“Thanks for the meal. I’ll treat you someday” Nadine told him before joining her class.

Changmin watched as she walked away and he scratched his head. He didn’t mean to make her feel uncomfortable with….WAIT. Was he flirting with her just now?”

Changmin thought about it and then shook his head. “Nah…that’s impossible”
