Chapter 19

Details In The Fabric Part 1

Ri In pushed the cart down the aisle and stopped at the next shelf. She arranged the books in a neat manner on the shelf and then went back to the cart. Her eyes fell upon a book entitled “Beyond the Horizon”. It was a motivational book but Ri In was thinking about another thing.

“Stupid dream! Aaargh!” Ri In snarled as she placed the book on the correct shelf, but it toppled over and fell to the floor. “Stupid book!” she cursed. She bent down and snatched the book when she heard someone clearing her throat. She turned around and saw the senior librarian looking at her through her cat-eye shaped spectacles.

Ri In gave her a goofy smile and dusted her skirt. “Oops?” she told her as she continued doing her job. Ri In heard the senior librarian walking away, her footsteps echoing in the almost empty library. It’s the usual typical Monday scene where most students will be stuck in their classes; only to come to the library during break or after school. She pushed the cart towards the counter and sucked in her breath when she saw Yoochun sitting at the Lounge Corner, reading a book. A feeling of disgust came over her as she shoved the cart aside and took her place behind the counter. The cart banged loudly onto the wall causing Yoochun to look up. Ri In grimaced at the noise and waited for the senior librarian to come up from behind the tall shelves and whacked her with a broom. To her relief, no one came to reprimand her and she sank in her seat.

“Whew. That was close” Ri In told herself as she happily checked out the tower of books in front of her. Normally she would enjoy stamping and recording the data but with Yoochun sitting a few feet from her, it sort of spoil her mood. As she stamped one book after another, she thought about the dream analysis she had received from the author of a blog she stumbled upon. Since Junsu had interrupted her plans on that unfaithful day at the book fair, she had decided to search it online, but there were a lot of sites about the topic and Ri In found most of them to be totally bogus. She herself finds it bogus that she’s wasting her time doing redundant research like this, She had came to a conclusion that the complicated staircase layout in her dream was related to the material she was reading before going to bed that night. She had came across a few articles saying that it could be one possible reasons that the dream could get carried away with the events or things done before sleeping.

But what about those two guys? One was laughing at, while other was helping her. Hmmm. Ri In then chanced on a blog, with the author saying that he or she is a certified dream analysis. “Pffftt..whatever that means” Ri In had remarked. She managed to read some of the reviews from others who had sought his/her help and most of them were thanking him/her for sorting out the problems. “This person sound reliable. Should I?” Ri In wondered, her fingers hovering over the keyboard. “Ah, what the hell” In a flash, she had finished summarizing the whole dream (in her case, it’s still a nightmare). “Okay..here we go” she said and clicked on the Send button.

Ri In had received the reply on the same night and her assumption was right. The information she read from the book before going to sleep could have seeped into her “dream waves” and the author’s opinion about the two guys almost made her eyes popped out.

“There’s a simple explanation for this. It’s obvious that you are torn between two guys. The one hiding from and only his voice could be heard is the one from the past, whom you wish to forget about but just can’t seem to. The one coming to your rescue is your present, and maybe your future. I assumed this person recently appeared in your life, perhaps when you were in trouble, and you had developed feelings for him? The contact he made with you (stroking your hair etc) shows that he wants to get closer to you, and probably have a deep desire to take care of you. I’ll say, go for the present and forget about the past”

Ri In stamped the last book and placed it at the growing pile beside her. “It doesn’t make sense” she muttered as she faced the computer and started hitting a few keys. There was a nagging voice behind her however saying that part of the reply was true. About her developing feelings for….gulp….Junsu. Ri In frowned. “No! That’s not possible. Just because he’s super nice to me and all doesn’t mean I HAVE to like him.” she told herself.

“Stop denying it” the voice told her. Ri In gripped the keyboard. She had this sudden urge to smash it on the wall all of a sudden but her wicked scheme was interrupted when a delivery guy came into the library, pushing a trolley with two boxes on it.

Ri In stood up and went over to the guy. “What’s this?” she asked, pointing to the trolley. She tried to recall whether she had ordered anything but none came to her mind.

“Special delivery~~~” Junsu entered the place, smiling from ear to ear. His hands were clasped behind his back and he winked at Ri In.

“Why are you here? Don’t you have to be in the office or something?” Ri In questioned him, crossing her arms.

“Aigoo. Seems like our friend had forgotten about something” Junsu said patting the delivery guy on the shoulder. “Ri In, you told me to get those books remember? I did get everything on the list you’ve given me and here they are!”

Junsu gestured to the two boxes sitting on the trolley and Ri In bit her lip. “Oh yeah. Shoot! I totally forgot about that” she thought. “Oh. Hmm..that was..um..fast” Ri In said going back to the counter and taking out a payment slip from a drawer. “How much do I owe you?”

Junsu walked over to her while the delivery guy opened the boxes and took out the books inside, arranging them neatly on a table beside him. “You don’t have to pay anything. I was the one who offered to help you out” he told her.

“Aniya! That won’t work. The school’s going to pay for it no matter what or else I’ll be dead” Ri In informed him.

Junsu shrugged. “Fine. Just have lunch with me and considered it settle” he simply told her, leaning against the counter.

Ri In felt her jaw dropped opened. Is this guy for real? “Yah Xiah Junsu! Quit fooling around. State the price or get out of my sight” she warned him, clutching the pen she was holding.

Junsu, who looked slightly hurt with her harsh tone, opened his mouth to say something but he was interrupted by Yoochun.

“What is with all the noise? I can hear you people from there” Yoochun asked, pushing up his spectacle.

“If it bothers you so much, then feel free to leave this room” Ri In snapped before turning on her heels and marching straight to the store room which was located beside the counter. Ri In closed her door and leaned against it, the blood rushing to her head, making her feel slightly dizzy. She slid down to the floor and took deep breaths. God, what is happening to her? It is so unlike her to lose her cool and making a fool of herself in front of everyone. She pressed her ears to the door to see if they had left but then she heard murmuring so she assumed they were still outside.

Ri In massaged her temples and then regretted for being nasty at Junsu. That guy came with a good intention and yet she made him miserable. “He shouldn’t been so mischievous in the first place!” Ri In muttered, recalling the part where he wanted to have lunch with her. Wait…what if he was really sincere about it?

Ri In groaned and hugged her knees to her chest. Why is her life getting so messed up all of a sudden? Who’s to blame? Ri In closed her eyes for a while, waiting for the guys to leave. She heard footsteps coming towards the store room and the door swung opened, causing her to stumble forward.

“Ri In? What are you doing on the floor?” Ri In picked herself up and tried to come up with a good lie. “Umm..I was..err..looking for this…ha! Paper clip!” Ri In bent down and showed the senior librarian the object. The woman gave her a skeptical look and motioned for Ri In to follow her. Ri In dragged her feet and shut the door closed. She then realized that the library was back to its quiet self and the guys were gone, but there was a stack of new books left behind.

“Ri In, I didn’t know you went through all the trouble just to get these books. And, it’s the exact same edition that we wanted especially for these revision guides!” the senior librarian told her, showing her the manuscripts.

“It is?” Ri In asked, walking over to her and checking it out herself. She admits that she did not know that Junsu can be super reliable. And FAST. It was as if all he needs to know was to snap his fingers and everything will come rushing to him. “I’ll guess I go get this book encoded and place them on the shelves later” Ri In told the older woman.

“Mm-hmm..oh wait! What’s this?” the senior librarian asked, holding out a dark purple colored hardcover, with white bold letters on it. The librarian read the title out loud “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes. Did we include this in the list as well?”

Ri In could have sworn her ears were turning red from the embarrassment. She took the book and glanced at its kiddish cover and letterings. The words were outlined with glitter and she hated them. They are so tough to get rid of when it’s on your fingers. “I think he must have made a mistake” Ri In told the senior. “I’ll call him and let him know” she said giving a fake bright smile before heading to the counter.

Ri In flipped opened the cover and a piece of paper slipped out. It was the list that she had given him after he had threatened her. She then saw that she had scribbled “to get books about delusional matters” at the bottom of the list. Ri In crumpled up the list and tossed it into the bin. She then noticed the post-it sticking on the first page of the book.

“Didn’t know you were into this kind of stuff…Happy reading…..Xiah Junsu” followed by a smiley face.

Ri In gulped and felt her heart sinking to the bottom of her stomach. Great…just great….now he’s making her feel bad. Jang Ri In, what have you gotten yourself into?!!
