Chapter 2

Rainy Night Part 2

“Hyung! Watch where’ you’re going” twenty-four year old Changmin warned him in an irritated voice.

Yunho grunted and consulted the ticket in his hand. “I’m taking the window seat” he grumbled and walked quickly to the seating area.

“That’s my seat!” Junsu exclaimed causing a few passengers to turn to their direction. Changmin wished there was a rock he could crawl and never come out as Junsu ran to Yunho and started wrestling with him.

“Holy cow” Yoochun muttered from behind Changmin. “You want to take the next plane? I don’t mind, seriously”

Just then an air stewardess came out and told the two squabbling grown-ups to take their seat or else they’ll be thrown out of the plane. Changmin and Yoochun suppressed their laughter as the lady walked past them muttering “Childish brats” under her breath.

“Yah Junsu, I had a bad day okay. Let me have the window seat for once” Yunho was saying.

“You do realize that all eyes are on you” Yoochun spoke up, removing his scarf and sitting down at the row beside them. Changmin joined him and made himself comfortable.

Junsu was about to throw back something nasty but quickly shut his mouth when the same air stewardess came marching down the aisle with a displeased look.

“Okok, I’ll sit” he quickly said before the lady could nag at him again.

“All this bickering for a window seat. How childish can you get” Yoochun scoffed, putting on his MP3.

“The pot calling the kettle black” Junsu told him but Yoochun was already in his own world, making Junsu fumed.

Changmin chuckled to himself and leaned back on his seat while waiting for the plane to take off and take them back to Korea. It has been a grueling two weeks for him in Japan, clinching business deals and attending one meeting after another. And not to mention the sleepless nights perfecting their presentation materials in order to impress their clients. The seatbelt light started blinking and everyone braced themselves for the flight. The plane shook a bit when it was about to take off followed by a flash of lighting outside. Changmin heard Junsu grumbling about the rainy weather and Yunho telling him to be quiet. When the seatbelt light started blinking again, there were low murmurs in the cabin as some passengers got up to head for the toilet while the air stewardess gave out hot towels. Changmin and Yoochun gratefully took theirs and placed it on their faces.

"I'm so gonna take a long shower once we get home. So glad I don't have to report to work tomorrow" Yoochun mumbled, the towel still on his face.

"Lucky you" Changmin told him, wiping the towel on his hand and then handing it back to the air stewardess as she passed by.

Yoochun removed the dam cloth from his face. "Mr Vice-President giving you the pressure?" he whispered.

Changmin stole a glance at Yunho who was already in LaLa land, his mouth slightly open. Junsu had whipped out his phone and was taking a few pictures of him, while giggling to himself.

“Nah, Yunho’s not the problem. He’s doing quite well, leading the team and everything. I just wish he..tone down a little bit. It’s kinda getting on my nerves, if you know what I mean” Changmin admitted speaking in a small voice.

“I know. I was watching you guys and I noticed you were getting a bit agitated every time he wishes to change or cancel something. He reminds me of his father though” Yoochun mused. “Although I have to admit that for a newbie in the company, you seem to handle things quite well, so kudos to that” he added with a wink.

“Really? You think so? I thought I was a wreck” Changmin said, fiddling with the button on his jacket.

Yoochun chuckled. “I always remind my students not to be afraid to be yourself. Each of us is more powerful beyond measures, and from the way I see it my dear Changmin, you seem to be hesitating at certain areas. And I am not saying you’re a wreck, just..don’t be frightened to let your light shine. It’s the magnificent light that you are afraid of, not the darkness”

Changmin stared at Yoochun. “Have you been reading those psychology books again?” he asked after a while.

Yoochun pressed a few buttons on his MP3 and nodded. “Time flies real fast when you’re reading and besides waiting for you guys to finish whatever meeting you’re attending can be such a bore”

“Then why did you tag along with us in the first place again?” Changmin asked again.

Yoochun shrugged. “I just need some time-off from work that’s all..and also from Old Mrs. Chaeyoung—

“Headmistress Chaeyoung” Changmin reminded him, fishing out the menu and flipping to the dinner page.

Yoochun rolled his eyes. “She’s old. She’s been chasing me for this and that ever since the term started. Pffft. Typical. Anyway, I’m wasting my breath talking about her. I’m going to snooze for a while. And don’t bother checking out the menu. The food for tonight is going to be terrible” he said, before leaning back and closing his eyes.

Changmin shook his head and put back the menu. He glanced around the cabin and saw that most of the passengers were already dozing off, while some were up watching the movies or doing their own work. His eyes settled on a man, sitting by the window, typing on his laptop and sipping a cup of hot coffee. He tried to visualize being like the man and then his mind drifted off to Yunho, the vice-president of Ex-Pac, one of Seoul’s leading events management company. Ex-Pac was well-known in delivering the finest for their clients and has won one award after another for their professional management service. Both Changmin and Junsu had been working in Ex-Pac for almost a year as Art Directors and have their own team to manage. Yoochun on the other hand, teaches Literature and Music at Iseul High School.

Changmin tried to get some sleep but the plane’s turbulence was getting on his nerves so he decided to take out his Blackberry and checked out what’s in store for him when they get back to their headquarters. As he scanned one schedule after another, he wondered when he will get a break from work. He glanced at Yoochun who was snoring lightly and then at Junsu and Yunho who looked dead beat, even though they were sleeping. He then glanced at the schedule one more time and then placed the device back into his bag. He thought that he could get away from the hectic agenda for a while when in Japan, but he was wrong. He may be the Art Director, but Yunho was still in charge of everything and had instructed, more like commanded, Changmin and Junsu to get started with their plans. Changmin’s team, which consist of him and five other people, were grumbling once they stepped foot into the hotel.

“Aish. Can someone tell the Terminator that we need to wash up and rest for a while?” Changmin had heard one of his team members complaining.

Changmin chuckled and leaned back on his seat, hoping this time he will get some sleep. The Terminator. That’s what most of the staff in Ex-Pac called Yunho behind his back, but Changmin knows that Yunho had heard about it but he didn’t mind. The guy was just as passionate as his father and Changmin had to admire him for that. When Changmin and Junsu first applied for the job, Yunho had made them go for a few rounds of interview much to Junsu’s dismay since they were all close friends and he had thought they could get the job easily.

“It’s standard procedure” Yunho had told them coldly. He then had apologized to them for his rude act since he did not want to appear biased in front of the staff. “I just can’t take you guys in just because we’ve been friends for years” he had explained.

Yoochun started mumbling something in his sleep and Changmin felt his eyelids getting heavier. Changmin treat the plane’s engine low humming as a lullaby and soon he drifted off to sleep. He had a dreamless sleep and woke up to the smell of coffee and Yoochun patting his shoulder.

“Ummff…five more minutes” Changmin mumbled, swatting Yoochun’s hand away. Yoochun then pinched Changmin’s thigh and the guy woke up with a start. “What the hell?” he said and Yoochun laughed.

“Morning sleepyhead. A new day arises” Yoochun said in a sing song voice. Changmin gave him an irritated look as his friend sipped his cup of coffee.

At the next row, he could hear Junsu arguing with Yunho, probably begging him to let them off from work for one day. “Fat hope” Yoochun told Changmin, as if he had read his mind.

Changmin scowled at him as he got up to use the toilet. “Stop gloating. I hope you get tormented by Old Mrs Chaeyoung when you return to work tomorrow”
“It’s Headmistress Chaeyoung!” Yoochun shouted but Changmin had slammed the toilet door closed, drowning out Yoochun’s voice.
