Junsu shook his head. “It’s okay. You guys go ahead” he told her. Yoobin nodded. “Ok boss. See you later!”
Junsu slouched in his seat after Yoobin left and reached out for his phone. Should he? Or shouldn’t he? Junsu groaned and got up from his seat. He stood behind his desk and stared at the blinds that he had pulled down earlier on since he got irritated by the sunlight; which was rare since he hardly get irritated.
“Penny for your thoughts?” Mr Jung’s voice boomed into the room. Junsu jumped and found the President entering his office. The man walked to where he was standing and shook his head.
“Tsk…tsk…are you attending your own funeral Junsu?” Mr Jung asked as he removed the blinds. The light streamed in and for once, Junsu had forgotten how alive his office looks like with more light. Junsu gave a sheepish smile and motioned for the President to take a seat but the guy shook his head.
“I’m going off to fill this empty gallon” Mr Jung told him, patting his belly. “Don’t tell Yunho I’ll be having shark fin later. His nagging is worse than the mother” he added.
“Shark fin? For lunch?” Junsu wondered to himself. Mr Jung crossed his arms and glanced out of the window. “So what’s the sour face for? It’s definitely got nothing to do work I assumed. Is my son bullying you again?” he asked.
Junsu chuckled. “No…although he does that everyday but we’re all used to it” he said. Mr Jung nodded. “I see…so it’s a woman” he told him.
Junsu raised his eyebrows. “Why is it that whenever a man looks broody, people kept saying it must be a woman? It can be other stuff like, work, or..or…
“Or what? Your pet goldfish died? You didn’t get the lottery? Your precious car got pulled away?” Mr Jung continued for him.
Junsu made a face. “Fine..fine. It IS about a woman. I just..it’s so hard to get inside her head. One minute she’s Little Miss Sunshine and the next thing you know, there’s a black cloud hanging over her head”
Mr Jung chuckled. “Sounds feisty. I like feisty women. That is why it was my ultimate goal to woo her when I first set my eyes on her for the first time. She wasn’t easy you know. Kept slipping out of my grasp and then disappearing mysteriously to God knows where”
“Slipping and disappearing?” Junsu asked. Mr Jung laughed. “What I meant was there were times when we will get intimate and I thought, this is it, I will never let her out of my sight. I want to protect her and be with her but no sooner did I say that, she will go her own way without telling a word. She will seem relax most of the time, but her mind was always troubled with a little bit of this and that”
“She was troubled? By what?” Junsu wanted to know. He recalled how Ri In was being tensed when she saw Yoochun. Was Ri In bothered by that?
“Her parents. They had this strict dating policy and wouldn’t let her go out with any other guy. They still see her as a little girl even though she was already in her twenties at that time” Mr Jung replied. “The whole hide-and-seek game she had with me was just to play safe. The times when she disappeared are times where she will go back to her parents’ house once in a while. They still don’t trust her living in the dorm so they make sure she comes join them for dinner once in awhile”
“Did it cross your mind that she was regarding you like…a play thing? Since she kept abandoning you without a word”
Mr Jung nodded. “There were times I thought she was seeing other guys..or never coming back. But I didn’t give up and continue to be with her. When she realized how sincere I was to be with her, she finally told her parents the truth”
“Was it easy to steal her heart in the first place? What did you do to get the parents to like you?” Junsu wanted to know. He didn’t know Mr Jung had a tough time with his girlfriend/wife. Junsu assumed that Mr Jung’s love life went on smoothly.
“Oho..it wasn’t easy. She was the ultimate Ice Queen and whenever she was stuck in an embarrassing moment, I happened to be there to save her. It’s like we’re meant to be together at the same place at the same time” Mr Jung laughed to himself. “I sound like a mushy sixteen year old am I?”
Junsu laughed along with him and was about to ask another question when the President shook his head. “No, I’m not going to tell you how I won her parents heart. Now is your turn to tell your story”
Junsu looked at him in dismay. “Aww come on” he whined. “I’m not going to give you tips. You have to figure it out yourself how to win her over. So what’s this girl like besides being feisty? How did you two met?” Mr Jung asked.
Junsu thought about it. “We met by chance actually” he said and then laughed to himself. “She woke up while I was snoozing at the coffee house”
Mr Jung raised his eyebrows. “Pretty impressive way to start off” he told Junsu. “And then what?”
Junsu then started telling him about how he had rushed her to the hospital and then visiting her regularly till she got discharged. “And she didn’t mind you dropping by?” Mr Jung asked him.
Junsu shook his head slowly. “No…she didn’t seem bothered by it, so I thought it was ok for me to just come and visit her. And she told me she had no other friend beside her friend, Nadine? The one Changmin is helping with?”
“So…you felt sorry for her? That she was alone by herself?” Mr Jung asked. Junsu laughed at him. “What’s this? 20 Questions? You sound like you’re interrogating me sir” he told the President.
“Well its better that way since you’re holding so much things back. From the way I see it, you’re already falling hard for her but she’s…not feeling it?”
Junsu shrugged. “She always seemed annoyed every time I do something nice. But you’re right, I AM falling for her. It’s hard to describe how and why I am suddenly feeling this way but I guess it’s because I’ve been spending most of my time in the hospital with her, that…
“Ah..love at first sight? And yeah, my wife tend to yell and snap at me whenever I appear out of nowhere, but she will ended up going ahead with the plans. Like there was this one time, after the whole school was done with the exams, I asked her out for a coffee but she got agitated and told me she rather be somewhere else. At the time, we weren’t official dating yet. I asked her where she would like to go and wouldn’t tell me and just kept walking and walking and then we ended up being at a park near school. Turns out she wishes to just sit there and do nothing” the President told him.
“So you two ended up there and did nothing?”
Mr Jung nodded. “But I still bought her coffee after that”
“Soooo..ummm…the whole point is?” Junsu asked, looking unsure.
Mr Jung stared at him with disbelief. “You know, you REALLY need Cupid by your side. What I’m saying is, the girl HAS feelings for you, even a blind person can see that. She just needs someone to be there. She’s at a vulnerable state and needs someone to talk to. Her friend might be there but she needs more than that”
“But how?! Whenever I’m there, it looks as if she wants to get away from me. And even if we happen to be together, she will find faults with me so that I will feel bad and leave her alone”
“Gosh, you two sound like an old married couple already!” Mr Jung commented, looking amused. “Don’t you feel you guys click?”
Junsu looked at him uncertainly. “Click? Umm..I thought we did, but…” He remembered again how upset Ri In was when she saw Yoochun……. with Sun Mi.
“But what?”
“But..I think..I think she’s not ready yet” Junsu blurted out. Mr Jung frowned. “Not ready? You mean, something is holding her back..because of what? Like her..past? Some girls..or even boys do that, just so they won’t get hurt again” he told Junsu.
“Maybe you’re right” Junsu mumbled and then glanced helplessly at Mr Jung. “What are you looking at me for? You should go and ask her” he said, getting ready to leave room.
“What? I can’t do that!” Junsu told him.
Mr Jung shrugged. “Sure, you can just there in silent and let her slip through your fingers. OR, you can slowly win her over and learn about her inside out. But be careful Junsu, most truths are not always kind” he said before leaving the room.
