“Sir?” the waitress asked. Junsu tore his gaze away from Ri In and took the drink from her. “Thanks” he said after paying for it.
“Your coffee’s here” Junsu called out to Ri In. Ri In left the railing and joined Junsu at their table. He immediately noticed that she was looking rather restless.
“Is anything the matter?” Junsu asked as he watched her take a sip of her drink. Ri In winced as the hot liquid burned her tongue and she gingerly placed the cup back onto the saucer.
“You never miss a thing do you?” Ri In asked him as she took a napkin from Junsu. Junsu shrugged. “It doesn’t take a blind person to figure out that you have something on your mind” he told her, leaning back on his seat.
Ri In kept quiet after a while as she played with the ends of the napkin. When she noticed that Junsu was staring at her the whole time, she sighed heavily.
“Okay, quit staring at me” Ri In told him, leaning forward. “I…I just want to know..why is it—
“Why I chose to go out with you?” Junsu cut in. Ri In closed her mouth and then hesitantly nodded.
“Do I need to answer that?” Junsu asked her. Ri In nodded. “I don’t get it. I was…rude to you most of the time and yet..you still want to go out with me?”
“Having a guilty conscience now?” Junsu said, stirring his ice tea and giving her a smirk.
Ri In narrowed her eyes but before she could snap at him, the waiter came out with their orders. But Junsu was having his eyes on Ri In the whole time and the girl kept glaring at him the whole time. Oh man, if looks could kill, Junsu will be dead by now.
“Eat up. Questions and answers later” Junsu told her after the waiter left. He started attacking his hot- smoked salmon with cheesy toasts. He glanced at Ri In who was poking her chicken apple tagine. She then cut it into small pieces and then chewed it slowly. Junsu saw how her eyes lit up when it hit her taste bud and then went off to take another bite.
“You like it” Junsu commented, taking a sip of his ice tea.
“It’s…okay” Ri In told him. Junsu shook his head. “That wasn’t a question” he told her, hiding his smile behind his glass.
Ri In swallowed her food. “Yah! What is it with you?!” she snapped, banging the table, causing a few people to look at them.
“Sssshh….” Junsu told her but the smile was still there. “You’re really getting on my nerves you know that! Today’s Saturday and it was supposed to be my sleep-in-till-Sunday day but no, here I am stuck on a date with you” she grumbled.
Junsu raised his eyebrows in surprise. “Then why did you agree in the first place?” he questioned her.
“Because Nadine told me to give you a chance” Ri In muttered, looking away.
“What?” Junsu asked. He didn’t manage to catch everything she said but he heard something like “a chance”. What chance?
“Nothing” Ri In told him as she continued eating her food. Junsu looked at her with doubt but then he decided to push the feeling away and told himself to enjoy the day. After all, he had the whole day with her so why should he let the little things bother him right?
After the breakfast at Renzo’s, Junsu and Ri In walked down the timber steps in silence. The conversation during the breakfast was a mild one, mainly talking about Junsu’s job scope. He had told her he knew about the restaurant when he was in-charge to organize an event for a VP from another company who had wanted to celebrate his daughter’s twenty-first birthday.
“A birthday that is so grand?” Ri In had asked him in surprise. “Why?” she wondered.
Junsu had loved the expression on her face. Her eyes so round and wide, like a little kid asking why there are no unicorns in the world.
Junsu had told her that some people will go a large extend to make the people they loved happy. Ri In had kept quiet after that, leaning back onto her seat and then staring out to the sea.
As they descended down the steps, Junsu suddenly remembered that Ri In’s parents had passed away when she was young and then he felt awful for saying that. He thought of the time when she told him that Nadine and Ga-In was one of the few closest friends she had and that the school staff was like a family to her. Other than that, she has no one.
“Why…are you looking at me like that?” Ri In suddenly asked, frowning slightly at him. Junsu realized that they had ended up walking down the beach which was just in front of the restaurant.
“Wae? Am I making you uncomfortable?” Junsu asked, still looking at her. Junsu noticed the slight pink dots forming on her cheeks and he hid his smile.
Ri In shrugged and then looked away. “If there’s something on my face, then just say so” she mumbled, crossing her arms.
“You’re still not mad at me aren’t you?” Junsu asked, staring down at sand.
“For what?”
“For just now? For pissing you off?” Junsu pointed out. Ri In shrugged again. “I’ve already forgotten about it” she told him.
Junsu nodded and then stole a glance at her. Man, this was going to be tough. Are the two of them going to be like this the whole day? One minute she’s Little Miss Sunshine, and now she’s back to becoming Ice Queen. He thought about how Mr. Jung managed to break into his girlfriend’s heart but then realized that the old man did not bother to give him any tips. He groaned and scratched the back of his head. Ri In turned to him. “Why? What happened?” she asked him, stopping along the way.
Junsu faced her and gave her a lopsided grin. “N..Nothing” he stammered. Ri In looked doubtfully at him and then started to walk again but then she turned back to him. “You still haven’t answer my question” she told him.
“About what?” Junsu asked. “Why you chose to go out with me” Ri In replied, standing in front of him. By now, they were standing somewhere near the shore, the waves crashing down and a few seagulls flying above them. Since it was the beginning of the spring break, the beach was slightly crowded but it did not seem to mind Ri In a bit with the crowd. Junsu knew of people who find it suffocating to be in places where there are many people but he find it surprising that Ri In was able to adapt to it.
“Must I state the reasons?” Junsu asked Ri In, crossing his arms. Ri In looked at him with a defiant pout.
Junsu chuckled and reached out to tug a loose strand of hair behind her ear. Ri In flinched slightly at his touch and then staring at him. He thought he saw a streak of fear in her eyes but then it was quickly replaced with her normal monotonous glaze.
“Because I feel the need to be with you, that’s why” Junsu answered her, his thumb stroking her cheek softly.
“I..don’t …why?” Ri In asked in small voice shaking her head slightly. Junsu then leaned forward and planted a kiss on her forehead. He looked down at Ri In who was looking up at him, with the same vague expression he had been seeing for a couple of times.
“Do you doubt me Ri In?” Junsu whispered. Ri In swallowed and shook her head. “Then what is it?” he asked, holding her shoulder and looking at her straight in the eyes.
Ri In avoided the eye contact and stared down at the ground, playing with sand at her feet. “Nothing” he heard her saying. He thought he heard her getting choked up and then started to get worried.
Junsu had no idea where the sudden urge came, but he immediately hugged her. “Ju..Junsu-shii?” Ri In questioned him, a bit surprise by his action.
Junsu breathed in her peach scented hair when all of a sudden he felt a sharp pain on the left side of his stomach. He yelped and let go of Ri In who was smirking at him. The girl’s pinch was worse than a crab.
“YAH! What was that all about!” Ri In asked, hugging herself. “I could sue you for sexual harassment you know that” she snapped. “I only ask you a mere question and you went all mushy on me. You ungrateful little---HEY!!”
Junsu laughed loudly as he splashed the water on her and then running away. He heard Ri In chasing him, calling him all kinds of name. For a small girl, she was a fast runner and soon managed to catch up with him. They both stumbled to the ground with Ri In on top of him. Her eyes widened in shocked as she scrambled away from him and stood up, brushing the sands of her pants. Junsu got up and shook his head. He then playfully tugged at her arm and she scowled at him. “What?”
“Let’s go get something to drink” Junsu suggested pulling her. “Now? But I want to stay here a bit longer” Ri In told him. Junsu felt Ri In trying to slyly remove her hand from his grasp but he managed to let their fingers interlocked and he make sure they stayed that way till they reached the drinks kiosk.
Ri In may have a strong barrier around her but Junsu’s determine to break it down…no matter what…

Monica : Hey you! Yeap yeap. Changmin will take the initiave to ask Nadine, he's just chickening out at the moment. And Junsu and Ri In..forever fighting! All the more, it will make them closer, don't you think so?
kiisachan : Hiiiiiii!! LOL, I don't mind you commenting on both chapters. It's just that I have no idea which of your questions I have to answer. Haha. Ok let's see, yes, I think Junsu is mocking Changmin for having a hard head and almost cracking Nadine's skull. And about the policy, maybe Changmin will throw it one side and go ahead and date Nadine, what say you? I think Ri In is full of surprises. Expect the unexpected from her.
