“I can’t believe you’re here as well. I thought the janitor was joking about it” Leeteuk said as he entered the Art Studio. “Guess I’m not the only loser on a Saturday who has to drag his butt to school” he added.
“I’m not here to fill out paper works like you. I’m only here to finish this painting before Monday” Nadine explained, observing the colors she had created. It still does not seem right.
Leeteuk came over and stood beside Nadine in the middle of the room. He whistled when he saw Nadine’s artwork. “Woah there. Who’s this…person?” he asked, gaping at the painting.
“A model. I signed up for classes at NAC and the instructor told us to draw him” Nadine told him, admiring the painting. It was still in black and white since Nadine had a hard time choosing the right color for it.
“Eh? You’re sure he’s the model. Not your muse? Or your..boyfriend?” Leeteuk asked, nudging her elbow.
“No! What makes you say that?” Nadine asked, getting frustrated.
“Then why is he in a sleeping state? You didn’t happen to sleep with him did you? And then get up in the middle of the night and ---OWWWW!!” Leeteuk screeched as Nadine whacked him with a sketch book.
“Stop sprouting nonsense! I didn’t sleep with him!” Nadine snapped, blowing a strand of hair from her face. “He happened to be STANDING in the middle of the room and we were told to draw beyond the norm” she explained, calming herself down.
“And you choose him to be…like this?” Leeteuk questioned her. Nadine frowned. “What’s wrong with that?” she asked.
Leeteuk shrugged. “Ok, I may not be artsy-fartsy like you but..there’s so much…VIBE coming out of this artwork”
“Like bold and sensual?” Nadine asked in a flat tone. Leeteuk nodded. “Exactly!” he said, snapping his fingers. “Oh wait a minute. You don’t happen to get all hot and bothered when you were drawing him weren’t you?” he asked, his eyes gleaming.
Nadine whacked him again with the sketchbook and Leeteuk started begging for mercy. “OK OK! I’ll stop. You can hit me, but don’t hit my precious keyboard!” he whined, using his body to protect the object.
Nadine tossed the sketchbook aside and glared at him. “You make me sound like a whore again and I swear I will break your neck” she warned him. “And why are you here anyway?”
“Ooh. FEISTY!” Leeteuk joked as he held out his keyboard. “I’m here to get this song straightened out. There’s this function going on and I’ll be performing” he said.
Nadine raised her eyebrows. “You? Sing?” she doubtfully asks. Leeteuk wagged a finger at her. “Hey. Hey. I may be all quirky and eccentric, but I can darn right sing! Ask Yoochun if you don’t believe me. And if you excuse me, I’ll be rehearsing by that window over there” he told her, walking to a corner of the room.
“Should I put on my ear plugs?” Nadine called out, getting back to her painting. Leeteuk gasped and placed his hand on his chest, pretending to look hurt. “My lady. How could you say something like that?” he whispered with wide eyes.
Nadine rolled her eyes as Leeteuk proceeded to set up his equipment. While he was hitting a few keys here and there, Nadine was concentrating hard on her art piece. Is it true? That this drawing of Jaejoong really depicts the feeling of getting “hot and bothered”?
Nadine crossed her arms and glanced at her palette. She was beginning to add colors on the canvas when there was a knock on the door. “Come in” she called out, without looking at the person.
“Yaaaah..Changmin! You brought lunch!” Leeteuk said with glee as he stood up and walked over to the guy.
Nadine turned around and saw Changmin entering the room, carrying a paper bag. Their eyes caught and Nadine gave him a small smile.
“Omo! You’re the best. I knew I can count on you!” Leeteuk said with a mouthful of sweet potato.
Both Nadine and Changmin stared at his back with disgust as Leeteuk proceed to go back to his music corner.
“You want some?” Changmin asked, motioning to the lunch set he had brought.
Nadine shook her head. “No thanks. I’m good” she told him but Changmin shook his head.
“Don’t tell me you’re only drinking that milk tea. Here, I got a bibimbop. Take this” Changmin said, setting up her lunch on one of the student’s desk.
“Aniya. I’m fi—“ Nadine could not finish her sentence for Changmin had stuffed a spoonful of rice into her mouth. She quickly covered her mouth and chewed the food carefully so as not to get choked. Surprisingly the steamed rice and beef with vegetable bits tasted super good to her. As she swallowed the food, Changmin gave her bottled water and she gratefully took it.
“You shouldn’t do that! I might get choke!” Nadine told him, after gulping down the water. Changmin chuckled. “Mianhe. But you talk too much so I had to shut you up” he said, standing beside her and observing her art piece.
“Aah..Jaejoong isn’t it? Your model?” Changmin asked, standing beside her.
Nadine nodded, wiping her mouth with a piece of napkin. “Listen, about yesterday” she begins.
“What about it?” Changmin asked, his eyes still focused on the painting.
“I..I want to apologize for his rude behavior---
Changmin laughed and crossed his arms. “Don’t worry about that” he assured her. Nadine closed her mouth and then nodded. “Okay. Cause you look kind of pissed off when you left the table” she told him, grabbing a paint brush.
“Well, a bit…actually. He’s pretty..talkative” Changmin said slowly. Nadine nodded in agreement. “Yeah. I guess he gets excited when he starts to open his mouth” she said.
Nadine thought she heard Changmin muttering something and turned to him. “Did you say something?” she asked.
Changmin shook his head. “Aniya” he said and raising his eyebrows. “You heard..something?” he asked.
Nadine shrugged. “Maybe there’s something wrong with my hearing---
“Changmin! Yah, quit flirting and help me out here!” Leeteuk suddenly shouted from across the room.
Both Nadine and Changmin turned to look at each other at the same time. They quickly turned away and Nadine proceeded to continue her painting while Changmin shuffled over to where Leeteuk was. Nadine willed herself to focus on the palette and started to add in the colors. As usual, she could feel her face getting hot and her hands were trembling so bad that she had a hard time holding the paintbrush. She put down the paintbrush and counted to ten slowly.
Nadine picked up the paintbrush and continued her work. Her nerves were able to calm down after that and soon there was this melodious tune filling up the Studio. “Guess Leeteuk’s a genius” she muttered as she dabbed in a red and orange.
“No I’m not” Leeteuk’s voice suddenly said from behind. Nadine was so startled that there was a streak of red across Jaejoong’s face and she gasped. Leeteuk covered his mouth in shocked.
“I…am..so sorry!” Leeteuk squeaked in embarrassment. Nadine stared at her painting in disbelief. She tried hard not to panic and it was somehow working while listening to the mellow tune playing. She then realized that Leeteuk was standing beside her…which means…
Nadine peeked at Changmin who was playing the keyboard and her heart skipped a beat seeing him sitting there basking in the sunlight in his jeans and a grey short sleeve shirt, showing off his—WOAH there! Nadine shook her head and told herself to get back to reality.
“BRAVO! That was wonderful!” Leeteuk suddenly said, clapping his hands enthusiastically. He then kept quiet and gave Nadine a nervous glance. Changmin noticed it and immediately walked over to see what was wrong. His eyes widened when he saw the mistake that Nadine had did.
“It’s my fault!” Leeteuk explained. “Nadine…I am SO sorry about this” he said. “Maybe…maybe you call this guy and ask him to model for you again!” he suggested.
“NO!” Changmin cut in. Nadine and Leeteuk stared at him in surprise. “W..Why not?” Leeteuk asked.
“B..Because, I..read somewhere that..some, or most artists or painters usually make the best of everything. As in, they don’t start from square one when an art piece is ruin by a mere red streak” Changmin explained quickly.
Nadine looked at him in amazement. “Well, he’s right” she said, turning to Leeteuk. Leeteuk shrugged. “Okay. But I still feel bad” he added.
“Get me coffee later and you’re off the hook” Nadine told him. Leeteuk beamed. “Coffee it is!” he saluted her and went back to the keyboard.
“You coming?” Nadine asked Changmin as she grabbed her palette and tried to correct the mistake. “Coming for what?” Changmin asked her.
Nadine laughed. “Coffee! Leeteuk’s treating” she told him.
“But he’s only treating you” Changmin pointed out. Nadine shrugged. “I’ll make him pay for yours, no worries” she whispered and winked at him. Changmin laughed softly and shook his head. “You’re wicked” he whispered back, leaning closer to her.
Nadine had goosebumps when she felt his breath on her ear. She turned to look at him, and his face was merely inches away from her. She felt the blood rushing to her head when, as if by some unknown magnetic force, they got closer and closer, their nose almost touching.
All of a sudden Leeteuk let out a high pitched laughter and clapped his hands like a little kid. “I got it! I got the right note!” he cried out triumphantly.
Both Nadine and Changmin jumped back from each other and Nadine had a hard time swallowing and breathing.
“You..You’ve got it?” Changmin casually asked as he strode over to the jumping enthusiast.
Nadine straightened out her shirt and ran her fingers nervously though her hair. “Oh my God, what..just happened” she wondered as she stared at the painting and then at Changmin who was helping Leeteuk. She could feel Changmin watching her from the corner of his eyes so she kept herself hidden behind the huge easel.
She was so occupied with what happened a few seconds ago that she did not realized that her phone was vibrating, with Kim Jaejoong’s name flashing on the screen.
