“But why?” Jaejoong slurred. “Don’t you like it” he asked her as he stumbled forward.
“Jaejoong, you’re drunk. I think we need to leave before you start embarrassing yourself” Nadine told him, as she removed his arm from her waist and setting their champagne glasses on a table nearby. She dragged Jaejoong to a rattan chair and told him to sit while she went off to get some help.
“No! Don’t leave. Sit with me” Jaejoong said with a hiccup as he pulled Nadine to his lap. Nadine managed to wriggle her way out with an impatient sigh. “Just stay here” she ordered him.
Nadine left the terrace before Jaejoong could protest. She stepped into the crowded room, looking around for help but her mind was already clouded with too much champagne. She cursed herself for drinking the alcohol when she already promised from the beginning to take it easy on the drink.
“Nadine?”
Nadine turned around to see Junsu walking towards her, munching on breadstick. “Enjoying yourself so far?” Junsu asked.
“Yeah..but I have to go” Nadine told him. Junsu frowned. “Why? You have something on after this?” he asked.
“No..it’s my friend. He’s—“ Nadine stopped talking when she heard a commotion outside. Junsu strode forward with Nadine tailing behind him. They stopped at the entrance to see Jaejoong wrestling with two waiters and ordering them to let go of him.
“Jae! What are you doing?!” Nadine hissed. “I’m..I’m so sorry. He..drank too much” she apologized to the two waiters.
“I’ll go get help” Junsu said before disappearing back into the event. “Don’t let him inside” he added.
Nadine sighed and sat beside the drunkard man. Jaejoong was looking peeved and distracted and he threw Nadine a dirty look.
“Why did you leave me?!” Jaejoong snapped, grabbing hold of her arms. Nadine was shocked at his actions but she remained calm knowing that Jaejoong was not in the right state of mind.
“I didn’t leave you. I told you I’ll be back. I went to get help” Nadine told him as she tried to escape from his grip but the guy held on to her and looked at her huge pleading eyes.
“I thought you left me” Jaejoong mumbled looking down. Nadine sighed and wondered what was taking Junsu so long.
She stood up to see if he was coming back but Jaejoong pulled her back down causing Nadine to stumbled backwards and ended up sitting on his lap.
“Don’t go!” Jaejoong growled but this time it was more of an order and Nadine gulped when she saw the menacing glare that was in his eyes and the way he was gripping onto her arms, causing her to wince in pain.
“Let me go Jaejoong” Nadine begged, as she tried to stand up and get out of his strong grip but Jaejoong was too strong for her. “I said let me—
“What’s going on here?” Changmin’s voice boomed all of a sudden causing the two of them to turn to him. Nadine felt Jaejoong's grip getting tighter and she whimpered in pain. Changmin had a displeased look on his face while Junsu frowned at the scene.
“Nothing’s going on” Jaejoong spat. “I’m just having a wild good time with—
“Shut up Jae!” Nadine scolded him as she wrenched her arms free from his grip, much to Jaejoong’s surprise as she stood up and dusted her outfit, her face burning with humiliation. She had heard that line before and she hated hearing it again.
Jaejoong tried to stand up, a bit confused by her sudden reaction but Changmin rushed to his side when Jaejoong started to wobble, losing his balance.
“We need to get you home buddy” Changmin told him as he steered Jaejoong away but Jaejoong roughly pushed his hands away. Changmin however was a bit bigger than him and he managed to hold on to the drunkard man’s arm and literally forced him to walk down the spiral steps that was located beside the terrace.
“I think you should follow them. I’ll make sure the event is under control” Junsu whispered to Nadine. Nadine nodded, picked up her purse and followed Changmin and Jaejoong. Nadine felt a painful lump forming in her throat when she reached the landing seeing Jaejoong telling Changmin to let him go. The scene was all too familiar for her and it was like watching a horror movie over again when Jaejoong shoved his elbow onto Changmin’s stomach but Changmin was able to take him down by slamming Jaejoong’s body onto his car.
“Stop it!” Nadine begged as she ran to them. “Changmin, just let him go” she said but Changmin shook his head. “This guy is out of control. How much did he drink?” he told her.
“Just let him go. You’re only making him agitated by pinning him down” Nadine said. Changmin was looking a bit unsure but in the end he released Jaejoong and stepped back.
Jaejoong grunted with disapproval as he glared at Changmin. “You’re sorry you messed with me punk!” he hissed, dusting his blazer. “Come on Nadine. Let’s lea—
“She’s not going home with you. Not in that state” Changmin cut him. Nadine looked up at Changmin when she felt his arm on the small of her back.
“I can send her home fine! Come on Nadine” Jaejoong said, extending his hand. Nadine gulped, looking at Jaejoong’s hand and then she heard Changmin making a disapproval noise.
“I..I think I...I stay here a bit longer” Nadine said, and she immediately saw the disappointment in Jaejoong’s eyes.
“Nadine. I’m not going to hurt you—
“I’ll be fine. Why don’t you go ahead first. I’ll call you later okay?” Nadine assured him as she took a stepped back. She felt Jaejoong’s eyes on her as she turned away and walked to the front steps of the NAC and then headed quickly to the Ladies before either two men could bombard her with any questions. When she heard the squealing of tires, she sighed with relief as she leaned against the sink and stared at her reflection in the mirror.
“Nadine? Are you alright in there?” Changmin’s voice wafted into the room as he knocked on the door. Nadine blinked back the tears that was threatening to spill and walked to the door. She took a deep breath and opened it and found Changmin towering over her with a concerned expression.
“He’s gone” Changmin told her as he stepped aside to let her walk past. Nadine nodded. “I hope he’ll be fine” she managed to say.
“Did he hurt you?” Changmin blurted out walking beside her. Nadine shook her head. “No he didn’t” she mumbled but she felt Changmin pulling on her elbow, facing her to face him. “Changmin, what are you—
“Look at your arms” Changmin told her as he gently held out her arms. Nadine shook her head again. “It’s nothing” she said, staring at the slight red marks on her arms. “Those marks will go away”
“Why do you keep defending him?” Changmin suddenly asked her, still holding on to his arms. Nadine frowned. “I’m not defending him. He was acting and talking gibberish because he was drunk. You’re just making a big fuss about it” she said as she walked away from him but Changmin caught up with her.
“I am not making a big fuss about it” Changmin insisted. “I…I…I just –
“You what?” Nadine asked, stopping in her tracks and facing him.
“I just don’t like the idea of you being with him. He looks dangerous and is capable of hurting you!” Changmin blurted out.
Nadine rolled her eyes. “And how do you know that?” she asked, crossing her arms. “Plus, it’s not up to you to decide who I make friends with!”
Chagmin sighed and scratched the back of his head. “I didn’t mean to sound that way. I just—
“Changmin! There you are!” a female voice called out from behind Nadine. Nadine turned around saw Seung Yeon walking towards them with a wide smile. “What are you two doing here? You’re missing out a lot on the after party!”
Nadine noticed that SY’s face was slightly red and assumed she had too much to drink. She heard Changmin let out a sigh as the actress came closer to them. “Go on upstairs! Soo-Min’s waiting for you!” SY was saying.
Nadine gave a sideway glance to Changmin and she saw him giving a hesistant smile to SY. Soo-Min? As in Han Soo-Min, SY’s cousin and upcoming fashion designer?
“I’ll be right up. Why don’t you go ahed first” Changmin told SY but the lady pouted. “No no. Come up now! Soo-Min’s been waiting for you since just now!” she insisted, tugging on Changmin’s arm.
“But—
“You go ahead” Nadine told Changmin as she stepped away from the tug-of-war. Changmin looked at Nadine in disbelief and then turned to SY. “Could you give me one moment please” he said before walking over to Nadine.
“I’ll sent you home” Changmin offered but Nadine shook her head. “But Nadine—
“It’s okay. You should stay…it is your big night after all” Nadine said slowly. She did not want to mention that Soo-Min was waiting for him, for fear of the green-eyed monster taking over her.
Changmin finally gave in with a defeated sigh. “I let one of the Town Car sent you back home. It’s not easy getting a cab here”
Nadine nodded. “Araso” she told him. Changmin told SY that he will be joining her later after making sure that Nadine is safely sent home. The actress nodded happily and practically skipped her way back to the second floor.
While waiting for a Town Car to send Nadine home, Nadine and Changmin sat at the front steps of the NAC in silence. A cool breeze accompanied them causing Nadine to shiver slightly and having goosebumps. Nadine felt a jolt of surprise when Changmin placed his blazer around her, giving her a small smile.
“T..Thanks” Nadine muttered just as a black Merz pulled up in front of them. Nadine got up and Changmin opened the door for her. She got into the passenger seat while Changmin closed the door and told the driver where to sent Nadine. Nadine rolled down the window when Changmin approached to her side.
“Have a good rest” Changmin told her. “And I’m sorry if I happen to offend you—
“It’s no big deal” Nadine assured him. Changmin shook his head. “You’re too nice” he told her. He then reached out to tuck a loose strand of hair behind Nadine’s ear and leaned forward to kiss her forehead, much to Nadine’s surprise.
“Sleep well princess”
