Ri In hummed a little tune as she placed the plate of scrambled eggs and cheese on the dining table and went to the fridge to take the carton of apple juice. These two were Nadine's favorite breakfast items besides blueberry muffins, Coco Puffs and a hot cup of coffee. She was pouring the juice into two glasses when Nadine walked into the room, tying her hair into a ponytail. "Omo? What's this?" she asked, patting her hair neatly and looking at Ri In.
"It's breakfast..duh" Ri In told her as she took a seat and sipped her drink. Nadine rolled her eyes. "Yes, I can see that. I thought we're going to the coffeehouse since you wanted those caramel bread sticks?" she asked.
Ri In shrugged and took a fork. "Change my mind" she said as she dug into her breakfast. "You have to get use to changes you know. Life can be so unpredictable at times" she added, as she stole a glance at Nadine, who was staring at her plate.
"Aren't you going to eat?" Ri In asked, pretending to look hurt. Nadine puffed out her cheeks, showing her annoyance. "Ok fine! What do you want to know?" she asked, grabbing a fork and stabbing the scrambled eggs while muttering something under her breath.
Ri In stifled her laughter at Nadine's reaction. "I don't know..." Ri In started and Nadine gave her a weary glance. "What? Really! I'm still in shock" Ri In told her. When Ri In had saw Nadine and Changmin kissing on the dance floor, she couldn't believe her eyes! Ri In had been watching them when she had spotted Changmin talking to Nadine at the bar and judging from their body language, it doesn't look like they're having a normal business conversation. And judging by the way Nadine had "stormed" off when Soo Min had joined them, it looks like there was something going on between her friend and Changmin. But Ri In's questions were all answered when Changmin had dragged Nadine to the dance floor and they seemed to be continuing their conversation with Nadine looking rather upset and mad. Ri In had no idea what the hell was happening but it looks to her that Changmin was causing Nadine to be uncomfortable so she had strode up to the dance floor with Junsu tailing behind her, telling her to stop butting it. But the both of them had stopped in their tracks when Nadine and Changmin got themselves into some lip-locking action..and it was one heck of a kiss! Ri In was the first one to gasp after she and Junsu had stared at them for quite some time. The fact Ri In was still dying to know when, how, why, what happened between Nadine and Changmin was because the both of them left early during the dinner and as for the next day, Nadine had disappearead (with Changmin, no doubt) and only came back late at night, leaving Ri In all alone in the house. Seriously, it was like watching your own teenage daughter getting hyper once puberty sets in.
"Look Rinnie, I really didn't mean to...abandon you yesterday. Something crop up" Nadine was saying, drinking her apple juice.
"Something? Or someone?" Ri In inquired. "But it's fine with me..although I wished you'll tell me where you were going and what time you're coming home so that I don't have to worry!"
Nadine chuckled. She then poked the last bits of her eggs and Ri In cleared her throat. "We should leave now. Don't want to be late for work" she said, standing up and collecting the plates.
"To tell you the truth, I wasn't expecting this either" Nadine confessed. Ri In took the dirty cups from her and laughed. "No kidding" she said.
"I'm serious. One minute we were talking about random stuff..and the next..these happens" Nadine said.
"When was that?" Ri In wanted to know as dried her hands on a towel and walked over to the living room to retrieve her bag. "It's a loooong story" Nadine said, taking her books.
Ri In chuckled. "You can tell me in the car on the way to school. There's plenty of time. I still can't believe you didn't tell me about it! I'm your best girlfriend for crying out loud! I'm supposed to know EVERYTHING!" she complained.
Nadine laughed. "Mianhe. I'll treat you to coffee after work" she said with a sheepish grin.
In the car, on the way to their workplace, Nadine filled Ri In about what she had been missing and Ri In kept teasing her about it until Nadine's face turned red. "He sounds bold don't you think? Changmin may seemed all innocent...he really surprises me!" Ri In said as she laughed at the same time.
Ri In stopped at a red light and turned to Nadine. "But you don't look happy...not that happy. Usually normal girls can't hardly sit still but you seem to be hesitating. Wae?" she wanted to know.
Nadine frowned. "Not that happy?" she repeated. "Of course I am"
Ri In rolled her eyes. "Puh-leeze. It's written all over your face. Trust me, Changmin is ten times different and better than that...rat face" she said, not being able to say Nadine's ex name out loud. Even though she had not met him in person (and doesn't wish to), he sounds like a beast to her. A cruel beast that holds no mercy. "What's holding you back Nadine?" she asked, tapping her fingers on the steering wheel.
Nadine kept quiet for a while. "I think...I'm new to this...whole thing. Being with Alejandro (Ri In winced at the name) was like plunging yourself into a hot volcano and even though you know it's going to burn you, you still go ahead with it. Alejandro was still a gentleman but Changmin's different. Like what you said, he's definitely ten times better" she said slowly.
"How different?" Ri In asked. The light turned green and she pressed on the engine. "Very different. He's...really..I don't know how to put this--
"I can" Ri In interrupted. Nadine raised her eyebrows. "Really? Since when did you became an analyst at relationship?" she asked.
Ri In made a face at Nadine. "Changmin treats you like a fragile piece of artwork. Remember when we first met him at the coffeehouse and you were telling him about funding problem you were facing? You were oblivious to the way he was looking at you, but I was there to see everything. His eyes doesn't seemed to leave your face...and it looks like he did not want to leave the place when the meeting ended"
Nadine stared at her friend in amazement. "What?" she asked, after pausing for a while. Ri In nodded. "Yeap, that's right. I've been waiting for so long for your love story to unfold. I really think he's the guy for you Nadine. I've never see someone so...protective. Like remember when you fainted and he brought you to the hospital--
"Yeah yeah. I remember that part. You said concern was writting all over his face and the way he was standing next close.."Nadine stopped talking for a while and a small smile and a slight blush appeared on her face.
Ri In drove the car into the school ground and playfully punched Nadine's shoulder. "Aaaahh...see..the love bug got you already! Look, I know you don't wish to be involve in another relationship--yet. But I think Changmin's really head over heels for you--
"That's too early to say Rinnie" Nadine said. Ri In parked the car at her usual lot and killed the engine. "But it's too late to turn back now Nadine" she pointed out, unbuckling her seat belt. "I know deep down, you're happy to be with Changmin but I know you're still contemplating whether he's Mr Right for you. Because of what happened in the past. But it's will be unfair to Changmin if you're still holding on to your dark history. How many times have I told you to let it go? Gosh, you Scorpios can be SO stubborn!" Ri In grumbled as she got out of the car.
Nadine chuckled as she slammed the door close. "How can you make it sound so easy? Letting go. It's..hard. I mean, in your case. Helping out with SunMi's wedding...and she's getting married to the guy whom you used to be in love with? Does SunMi know...about..you know..."
Ri In shook her head slowly as they walked up the steps. "You're going to keep her in the dark?" Nadine asked in a soft voice. Ri In shrugged. "I wanted to ask Junsu if it would be okay to tell her...but do you think I should tell? I seriously think I shouldn't. I don't want her to think of me as the psycho ex who comes back for revenge" she mumbled.
Nadine kept quiet for a while. Even her mind went blank thinking whether Ri In should tell SunMi about the summer fling. "It's..going to be complicated if you tell her" Nadine conclude, patting Ri In's arm.
Ri In nodded. "I know. So..you're saying I should zip it?" she asked. Nadine bit her lip. "For the time being...yes. It will be the wise thing to do" she said.
Ri In puffed out her cheeks. "Araso..and same goes to you" she said, turning to her friend. "The wise thing to do right now is to cherish the man infront of you. Don't forget about that" she advised, tugging on Nadine's ponytail.
"Yes ma'am!" Nadine saluted her. "I'll see you later at lunch"
Ri In climbed up the stairs and checking her phone to see if there was any messages. There was one from SunMi telling her about tomorrow's plan to meet up tomorrow for the floral arrangement and banquet menu. Ri In pushed the glass door opened as she placed her phone back into her bag. She was suprised to see Yoochun standing at the counter, flipping through a magazine while the Senior Librarian was typing something on the computer, looking slightly annoyed.
"You guys are early!" Ri In commented as she walked up to them. Yoochun flashed her the usual maganimous smile and Ri In took a moment for that flutterry feeling in her stomach to appear but to her suprise, the feeling no longer exist!! Ri In gave a silent cheer to herself as she went behind the counter and peered over the Senior's shoulder.
"You got it all wrong. If you want it to be a specific search, you have to type in the year and correct keywords" Ri In pointed out. The Senior sighed and got out of the chair. "I'm too old for this. You do it. It's so hard to keep up with technology nowadays" she said.
Yoochun chuckled at what the Senior said. "You're never too old for anything" he told her. The Senior librarian waved his comment off as she sauntered to check on the books at the Check Out counter.
"How come the stuff you want is not what we have in the school's syllables?" Ri In asked Yoochun as she scanned the items that he needed. "Some of the students are entering a Literature competition and they'll be competing with the world's bestest so I'm preparing them for it" Yoochun explained.
Ri In made a gagging sound. "Sounds like boot camp to me" she commented as she clicked on the Print button. The machine churned out a piece of paper and she took it and passed to Yoochun.
"Thanks. You're really fast" Yoochun told her. Ri In grinned. "So I've heard" she said, leaning back on the seat when her phone beeped. Ri In reached out for her bag and took out her phone at the same time Yoochun's phone beeped as well. They both read the message in silent and Ri In looked up to see Yoochun smiling to himself.
"Is she ALWAYS that free?" Ri In asked, replying to SunMi's invitation for a small picnic next weekend together with her family. She had also stated that it will be a good idea for Ri In to meet up with her cousins who will be the bridesmaid as well for her wedding.
"I think so, yes" Yoochun said and then Ri In spotted something different in his expression. There was no longer that grey cloud hanging over him but this time, his eyes shone with delight and the aura around him had changed. "She's...really something" he added, collecting his stuff on the counter.
"She's a steal" Ri In told him. Yoochun caught Ri In's eyes and Ri In gave him a soft smile. "I'm really glad...you're happy..being with her" she added, choosing her words carefully.
Yoochun nodded. Ri In was slightly disappointed when he did not say anything after that. Did she say something wrong? Ri In watched as he walked out of the library, pretending to be immerse in the list that Ri In had given him. Her thoughts were interrupted when her phone rang and she answered it. "Yes Oppa?" she asked.
Junsu chuckled on the other line. "Had breakfast already?" he asked. "Yeah I did. Scrambled eggs on toast" Ri In told him.
"Lucky you. I only have a muffin. And I'm waiting for Changmin to come so that I can drill him. I think he's avoiding me on purpose" Junsu complained.
Ri In laughed. "He didn't answer any of your calls?"
"He switched off his phone for the past two days" Junsu told her.
"He's smart" Ri In commented. "Oppa, there's going to be a picnic gathering next weekend. SunMi invited us. I told her we're coming. You can make it right?"
"Picnic?" Junsu asked. "Hmmm...I think there's nothing on for me. So yeah, I can come down"
"Ok cool" Ri In said as she pencil in the details in her planner. "Ri In...." Junsu started and Ri In waited for him to finish his sentence. "What is it?" she asked, sounding worried.
"Umm..to tell you the truth, I'm actually kind of...dreading to have that talk with Yoochun tomorrow" Junsu admitted.
"You don't have to do it---
"No-no! I want to. I want to know" Junsu quickly cut in. "I want to know what's going on" he added.
"Me too" Ri In thought, thinking about what had happened a few minutes ago. "Don't worry Ri In. I'm sure it will be fine. I'm just chickening out..well..because Yoochun hyung can be such a complicated person and I'm afraid I will have a hard time understanding him" Junsu confessed.
Ri In giggled. "Don't hurt yourself tomorrow then" she told him. "Yah! I can take that man down anytime okay!" Junsu defended himself.
Ri In was about to tease him when a stream of students entered the library. "Oppa, I have to go now" she said. "Mm-hmm..araso. Don't miss me too much okay?" Junsu said before they hung up.
Ri In blushed as she started doing her usual routine. She still can't stop thinking about Yoochun and his mysterious ways but..the answers will be out tomorrow right? So she just have to wait...and accept what that answers are going to be...
