Junsu walked down the stony steps, not sure how many times he’s been walking at the same place. At first it creeps him out a little because of the deafening silence and the thick fog that kept interrupting his vision. He was ever so careful when he was walking, just like a blind man, his hands outstretched in front of him and his feet talking small tiny steps like a baby for fear of falling into some loop hole. But somehow, today, the fog or steps doesn’t scare him anymore. He’s been to this place a couple of times, and even if he had no idea where on earth he was, it didn’t bother him that much. Junsu even started to whistle as he kept on walking straight to God knows where.

As Junsu continued his journey, a sudden burst of light suddenly appeared a few feet away from him. He paused for a while, squinting at the direction of the light. “That’s something new!” he thought to himself as he strode over to the light, and he had this weird feeling came over him as he raised his right hand to touch the light. His body suddenly felt lighter and there was this cool breeze that appeared out of nowhere when the light blinded him and transported him to a different place.

“Whooaaaa..!!” Junsu exclaimed when he opened his eyes slowly. He blinked several times as he took a step forward and gaped at the surrounding area. He was standing on a brick pathway that has different symbols engraved on them which he did not understand what it means. The pathway seems never ending for him and tall flowering shrubs, bearing different kind of flowers, towered over him. Junsu kept staring at the flowers as he feet started moving forwards and soon the exhibit of the tall shrubs ended when he stepped out into the warm sunlight where the fresh air greeted him. A rainbow of butterflies fluttered here and there and then busied themselves by collecting nectar at the humongous garden he had just entered.

It was like being part of a wonderland surrounded by spring daffodils, bluebells and pink rhododendrons. Junsu had never seen or been to a place this peaceful before. He could hear a stream nearby and the buzzing of the bees didn’t scare him somehow. It was rather fascinating to see the busy insect hovering from one flower to another doing their job. Junsu felt like he could break out into a song anytime just feeling the tranquility of the place! Junsu was about to wander off somewhere when he heard footsteps. He craned his neck over the large size shrubs, hoping to see someone.

“H..Hello?” he called out. The footsteps stopped and he heard a shuffling sound followed by a broken twig. “Who…who’s there?” a muffled voice called back in return.

“Uh…um..t..tell me who you are first!” Junsu shouted back. There was silence after that and he heard a rustling sound. Junsu stepped away from the shrubs, his eyes darting frantically from one spot to another. If it was someone dangerous, he’ll be ready to take the person down. Someone appeared from behind the tall plant, dusting dried leaves from her long auburn hair. The person was wearing a thick white sweater and casual dark jeans and Junsu’s body relaxed when he realized who the person was.

“Nadine!!!” Junsu cried out as he ran forward and enveloped her into a huge hug. “W..Who are you?!” Nadine squeaked, as she pushed him away. Junsu stumbled backwards, surprised to see Nadine’s reaction. He even got another surprise to see a very young Nadine standing in front of him. Her face was a bit chubbier and she was a bit shorter. There were black and dark blue highlights in her hair but what gave him the jeepers was the unhappy frown on her normally radiant face. “Nadine, it’s me..Junsu. You know me..right?” Junsu said in a gentle voice. Nadine shook her head with a disgusted look on her face. “N..No. I don’t!” she retorted, hugging herself. Junsu’s mind went blank when he heard her say that.

“B..But we’re friends. You, me, Changmin and Ri In. Remember? You’re dating Changmin too!” “No I don’t!” Nadine repeated, this time sounding angry. “You’re a creep!” she shouted at him before taking off. “Mwoh?! Nadine! Come back!” Junsu shouted, chasing after her. “Stay away from me! I don’t know who you are!!” Nadine shrieked as they ran past a lake and down a narrow slippery slope. “W..Whoaa” Junsu tried to maintain his balance but he ended up falling on his butt and slid down the slope. Nadine, who was running ahead of him, turned around to see what had happened but it was too late as Junsu collided with her and she stumbled on top of him as they rolled down the muddy slope together.

“Ew gross gross gross!!” Nadine cried out as she struggled to stand up but their legs were tangled up together causing her to have difficulty standing up. “Ow hey! Stop poking my butt!” Junsu scolded her when he felt her kicking him roughly. “I’m not poking your butt!” Nadine snapped as she stood up slowly, dusting her pants. When Nadine was about to take off again, Junsu hurriedly got up and grabbed her by the shoulders. Nadine started to struggle but Junsu tightened his grip causing her to whimper in pain. “Let me go!!” Nadine begged. “You’re going to run again if I let you go” Junsu told her. “Why wouldn’t I?!” Nadine said, shoveling him in the gut but Junsu avoided it and accidentally grabbed her arm and twisted it. Nadine shrieked in pain and he immediately regretted it. He let go of her while Nadine held her injured arm and started sobbing.

“I..I am so sorry! I thought you were going to attack me!” Junsu apologized. “You stupid man!” Nadine shouted at him before lunging forward and started using all her might to beat Junsu. “W..WHAT?!” Junsu cried out in surprise as he backed away from her and then decided to run as fast as he could before the girl could claw him to death. “Come back here you coward!!” Nadine shouted from behind as Junsu struggled to climb up the slippery slope. He glanced behind and his eyes widened seeing that Nadine was nowhere to be found. He slowly slid down and walked back to the place where they had fallen. “W..Where did she go?” Junsu thought as he paced around. “Hey Nadine!” Junsu called out. “Nadine, come out! This is not funny!” he hollered.

Junsu was about to climb back up the slope when there was a loud rustling sound and Nadine jumped up from nowhere and pounced onto Junsu. “WAAAARRGGHHH!!!” Junsu yelped as he staggered while Nadine wrestled him to the ground. “N..No! Nadine! Get off me!!” he pleaded. Nadine delivered a rather harsh punch on his shoulder and was about to strike again when a hand grabbed her arm, followed by a gentle voice, telling her to stop. Junsu, who had been covering his face the whole time, took a peek at what was going on. He could only see a dark silhouette of the person standing beside him while helping Nadine to stand up. “This guy is being all…perverted! He knows my name and tells me that I am dating some random guy” Nadine was saying. She threw Junsu a dirty look before walking to a tree and sitting underneath it with a huff.

“Are you alright sir?” the guy asked offering Junsu a helping hand. Junsu gratefully took it and carefully stood up. He felt his back bone groaning in pain and he too groaned loudly as he straightened up and flexed his shoulders. “What’s got into her?” Junsu asked, glancing at Nadine who was sulking to herself. “That’s really not like you— “Do I even know YOU?!” Nadine snapped, her eyes blazing. Junsu gulped when he saw the rage Nadine had thrown on him.

“Nadine, please be nice” the guy said and Nadine made a face. “I’m Donovan. Donovan Costello, but you can call me Donny” the guy with the fair pale skin, soft brown eyes and floppy dark hair said. “Um..hi..Donny. Nice to meet you. I’m J— “I know who you are. And I know there are people out there waiting for you, so I’m afraid you can’t stay here any longer” Donovan told him. Junsu gave him a blank stare. “I’m sorry, I don’t get what you’re saying” he said. “He’s saying you don’t belong here doofus” Nadine muttered and Junsu frowned at her. “Nadine…please” Donovan said as he motioned for Junsu to follow up the slope. “What about Nadine?” Junsu wanted to know.

“She’ll be fine. Don’t worry. I will take care of her” Donovan assured him as they reached to the top. “Are you Nadine’s friend?” Junsu asked as he followed Donovan to stand near the lake. The still water showed their reflection and Junsu got goosebumps when he saw how dark and….thick the water was. There was nothing calm or tranquil when you look at the lake somehow. “Yes..we’ve been friends since we were little kids. Listen Junsu, when I send you back, tell Gio I said Hi…and don’t worry so much for his baby sister. She’ll be fine. I’ll make things fine for her..get it?” Donovan said taking small steps around Junsu.

Junsu faced Donovan with a puzzled look. “I’m really sorry I still don’t have a clue on what you’re telling me. What do you mean you’ll send me back? To where?” “You’ll soon find out. It was nice meeting you Junsu” Donovan said with a soft smile. “Till we meet again” he added before pushing Junsu into the lake.

“HEY! No--! WAIT!” Junsu tried to grab hold of Donovan’s arm but he felt himself falling backwards but instead of diving into the water, Junsu felt himself floating and the image of Donovan and the trees surrounding them get further and further away. “Live well Junsu!” Donovan called out to him before he disappeared. Junsu felt his head getting heavier and there was a slight cramp on his right leg. He had no idea where he’s falling into but he heard a faint beeping sound somewhere and people talking in low voices. He also thought he heard someone crying.

“Is he ever going to wake up?” a voice whispered and it was accompanied by a hush from someone. Junsu though he recognized that voice. Almost immediately he felt as if someone just punched him hard in the chest and he was thrown back onto a soft landing. His eyes flew opened and he started coughing uncontrollably. Though his vision was blurred, he saw a few people towering over him, talking in frantic voices.

“Get the doctor!”

“Oh my God! He’s awake!”

“Ma’am, please get away from the—

“He’s my son!”

“Mom please! Let the doctor check him first!”

“What’s going on here?”

“The patient’s awake, and seems like he’s choking” Junsu felt his eyes grew watery and his throat felt like it was on fire.

“Take it easy son…just take it easy” a deep voice comforted him. He closed his eyes briefly and felt something cooling covering his mouth. He opened it again and realized it was an oxygen mask and soon his vision cleared up and he saw two ladies in white bustling by his side while a tall elderly man, wearing a long white lab coat, was holding up a syringe and inspecting the thick liquid inside it. One of the ladies, carefully rolled up Junsu’s left sleeve and gently wiped an alcohol soaked cotton onto his skin. The cool effect caused him to shiver a bit. When the felt the sharp needle pricking his skin, he winced painfully.

“T..That hurts” Junsu croaked and the elderly man smiled down at him. “The pain will go away in a few seconds” he assured as he started doing a full body check-up on Junsu. “W..What happen to me? What’s going on?” Junsu demanded as he tried to lift his head but one of the ladies pushed him back.

“Please don’t force yourself Sir” she told him. “Just lie back down and look up at the ceiling” she added, adjusting the oxygen mask. “You didn’t remember what happened?” the man asked at the foot of the bed. “I don’t….think so” Junsu replied trying to recall what had happened, but his mind was blank. He felt one of the ladies lifting his right leg and his eyes widened seeing the huge cast. “Omo! Is that my leg?!” he demanded. “Can someone tell me what’s going on!”

The elderly man came over to him with a patient sigh. “You’re in the hospital Junsu. You’ve been in a coma state for almost 3 weeks. You and your friend, both of you got involved in a car accident outside a market place” he explained. “M..MWOH?!” Junsu asked, yanking the oxygen mask from his face. “I’ve been sleeping for 3 weeks?!”

The man, whom Junsu realized now is the doctor, nodded with a soft smile. “We’re glad you’re out of the deep slumber. Your vital stats are stable— “Wait, you mentioned my friend was also involved. Who was it? Where is my friend?!” Junsu demanded again, getting scared. “She’s next door and— “SHE?! Who is she? Oh NO! Don’t tell— Suddenly the door swung opened followed by frantic voices. A woman pushed herself in and Junsu immediately recognized her as his mother.

“Junsu! Oh my God! My son! You’re finally awake!” his mother exclaimed running towards him. The doctor stepped aside to let the woman be with her son, as she planted kissed all around his son’s face while tearing up. “You’re ok…you’re ok..” his mother kept saying as she caressed Junsu’s face and from behind her, Junsu could see his father and brother, Junho stepping in with watery smiles.

One of the nurse set the bed straight up so that Junsu can be in a comfortable sitting position and they left with the doctor after making sure Junsu was in stable condition. “Welcome back son” the doctor told him before leaving the room.

“Do you want anything? Are you thirsty? You want anything to eat? You hungry?” Mrs Kim asked she fussed around with Junsu’s hair and straightening his clothes. “Ma, I’m..fine. Ma, stop messing around with my hair!” Junsu said, trying to duck from her hands. “You’re fine?! What about me? I was worried sick about— “I don’t think this is the time to nag him dear” Mr Kim said in a gentle voice.

“Yeah, the whole hospital can hear you” Junho added with a playful tone. Mrs. Kim threw her husband and son a dirty look while Junsu tittered with laughter. “I’m going to call your relatives and say that you’re doing fine” she said taking her purse with her and stepping out of the room.

When the woman left, all three guys breathed a sigh of relief. They then looked at each other and started laughing softly to themselves. “Can someone tell me what’s going on? I don’t seem to remember anything at all” Junsu asked. Junho sat on the bed and explained to Junsu what’s been happening the past three weeks. He soon learned that Nadine and Jaejoong was involved as well, it was Jaejoong’s car that hit him.

“He…He’s dead? The guy’s gone?” Junsu asked in a small voice and his brother nodded. “Nadine is next door, still in a coma state— “How about her injuries? Where’s Changmin? And Ri In?!!” Junsu suddenly felt the bile rising in his throat thinking about his friends. And also of Ri In. He wondered how the girl was taking hold of everything. “I told the people at the front desk to give Ri In a call. You’ll get to see her soon” Mr. Kim assured him. “The doctor told us that Nadine is recovering well” Junho continued, “but not sure when she will wake up. They keep saying the same thing every day and—

“And Changmin got fed-up with it?” Junsu guessed. “W..Well..kind of, but he’s also working on investigating a few matters on his own, although I told him not to— “What matters?” Junsu wanted to know.

“From the way I see it, I think your friend was involved in a scam, making it look like she’s the one who started everything” Mr. Kim said. When his father continued to explain about Nadine’s involvement in Jaejoong’s drug trafficking, he thought he was going to throw up. “Ani! There’s no way Nadine will do that. She’s such a sweet person! I don’t believe you!” Junsu retorted. “That’s what everyone been saying but someone managed to dig up her past and it became front page news. She lost her job too” Junho added.

“Ri In and the other teaching staff tried to defend her but it was hopeless” “That’s not fair” Junsu muttered, his heart going out to Nadine. Poor girl. She has no idea what will hit her when she wakes up. Just then there was a soft knock on the door and Junho got up to answer it.

When Junsu saw Changmin’s head popped in, his face brightened up immediately.

“Changmin!!” “Hyung!!!: Changmin went forward and went to hug Junsu. “You’re ok!” he said in a choked up voice and Junsu chuckled. “You’re crying?” he asked. Changmin reached out to ruffle his hair and both guys burst out laughing. Mr. Kim and Junsu both suppressed their laughter seeing the two boys joked about. Changmin then stood up and motioned for Ri In to come forward.

When Junsu laid his eyes on her, he can’t help but feel emotional as she gingerly sat on the bed and carefully took his hand in hers. Junsu gave it a light squeeze and Ri In looked up slowly. He could tell she was holding back her emotions when he saw her glistening eyes.

“Hi” both of them said at the same time. Someone at the back tittered softly and Ri In’s face broke into a smile as a tear slipped down her cheek. She started off laughing softly but it turned into soft sobbing as Junsu hugged her tightly. She buried her face into his chest and started crying her heart out.

“Sssh..hey, it’s going to be ok” Junsu said in a soft voice, as he ran his fingers through her hair. “She misses you too much” Mr. Kim said, patting Ri In’s shoulder. “I’ll see you later” he added and motioned for Changmin and Junho to follow him. “See you tomorrow” Changmin whispered before shutting the door.

The room grew silent after that, but it was a comforting kind of silence. Junsu slowly rocked Ri In from side to side, making the girl relaxed. He rubbed her back up and down, hoping it will do some comfort for her. “Please don’t stop” Ri In mumbled when Junsu reached out to smooth down her hair.

Junsu chuckled as he resumed back to rubbing her back. “I’ve missed you so much” Ri In continued, taking a sniff. “I..I thought I was g..going to l— But Junsu hushed her and Ri In hugged him tightly.

“Don’t say that Ri In. I’m right here aren’t I?” he said. “I’m sorry. It’s just, I…have a lot on my mind recently” Ri In admitted. She sat up straight, brushed her hair from her face and gave Junsu a watery smile. “I hope Nadine will wake up soon” Junsu said, giving her hand a squeeze.

“Your brother told you?” Junsu nodded. “I really didn’t see all these coming. What did the police say?” Ri In shrugged. “Whoever tried to frame Nadine seems to be a sly and crafty one. The police are really trying very hard to track the person…and so is Changmin” “Well, good to know he’s helping the police—“ “No, he’s not. He’s doing it by himself. He says he has a clear idea on who is behind all this” Ri In interrupted.

“Mwoh? That guy is putting his life at risk! He can’t do that!” Junsu said, sounding worried. Ri In sighed. “That’s what I told him, but he won’t listen. He’s really determine to prove that Nadine is innocent” she said with a sad smile. “I know she’s innocent Oppa. I don’t want to see her behind bars. That’s not her place”

“I know…I hope her name will be cleared as well” Junsu said as Ri In leaned onto his chest again and he continued to stroke her hair. Junsu kissed the top of Ri In’s head and smiled to himself.

“I miss how you smell like peaches….and strawberries”

“And you smell like…” Ri In paused to take a whiff of Junsu “…you smell like mothballs..but I like it” she said and they both laughed.

“Are you going anywhere after this?” Junsu asked, caressing her cheek. Ri In looked up into his eyes. “No. Why?” Junsu grinned and kissed the tip of her nose.

“Can we just stay like this for the next few hours then? I really miss you” he whispered. Ri In’s cheek formed her usual pink dots and Junsu chuckled seeing them. Ri In leaned towards Junsu and they both shared a kiss. “Same here” she whispered back.
