Tell Him (Completed)

Chapter 1

As I sat inside the mini van waiting for my turn to appear, I started to my CD player with one of Celine Dion's CD. It was one of my favorite CD of Celine -- "Let's Talk about Love". I leaned back comfortably in the car seat and hummed to the lyrics of the song while at the same time focusing on an image outside the windshield window. I could not read the conversation he was having with fellow coworker, but I am pretty sure that he was rehearsing his lines. That's one thing I admire about him most is his dedication and persistent attitude towards his work. How time flies by so quickly, it was as if it was just the summer of 2003 yesterday. The weather couldn't have been any hotter as it was above 40 degrees and as I recalled several of the staff had suffered heatstroke on the first day of working. It was definitely hard work, but it was well worth the effort because of it that I had received many more supports and recognition for my effort and role. It was also a memorable summer because it was the first time I met him and we became good acquaintance over the 6 months of working side-by-side one another. But as it is with anything in life, nothing last forever -- or can it?

A slight tap on the window brought my attention back to reality.

"Miss Li, the Director is waiting for you."
"Oh, Thank You. Tell him I'm on my way."

Just another day and another role I told myself and took a deep breath then exhale. As I approached the director and crew, my heart beats faster and faster. So much for trying to calm myself earlier. I suppose today seems more nerve recking because it was a scene which features me and him together.

"Hey Qian, are you ready? Do you want to rehearse the lines again?"

I turned around and found him standing behind me all this time. He was standing so close to me I could smell his scent. It was a good thing the weather condition this time around was cool and breezy, else if it was like that summer of 2003, I would have fainted many times during this filming.

"Uh, Yes....Uh..No", I replied blinking shyly as I looked up into one of his mezmorizing gaze. "I meant, Yes I am ready and No we do not need to rehearse the lines again."

He chuckled a bit and brushed my arms slightly to lead the way. "Good, let's go. This is it. The final scene!"

Yes, I repeated to myself with a sigh. It is the final scene and probably the last time I'll get to see him until who knows when.

"OK everyone be quiet. Let's roll! Take 1. Scene 145. Act 12. Action!"

**** Act 12, Scene 145, Take 1 Begins ****

Lily : “Wait, please don’t go yet.”
Jake (stop, turns to looks at Lily): “Is there something the matter Lily?”
Lily (looks up to meet his eyes): “Yes, can we take a quiet stroll? There’s something I want to tell you before you go tomorrow Jake”.
Jake (smiles back): “Sure, let’s go this way. It’s more quiet on this side of the lake.”
The two of them walked side by side each other towards the Swan Lake Park, neither one of them saying anything to each other. When they’ve reached a point where no one else was in view, Jake stopped and Lily sensing his motion also stopped, turned around and looked at him.
Jake (with both hands digged deeply into his pockets): “I don’t think anyone is here now, what is it that you want to tell me?”
Lily (looks down at her shoes not being able to meet his eyes): “I, I….I wanted to wish you good luck in your studies in the States. I know you’ll do well in school because you are a very smart person. And I, I…”
Jake (stepping closer towards Lily): “And You, You …what?”
Lily looks up from the ground and suddenly realizes that Jake’s face was just inches away from her face. She quickly turns away with her back to him and said “…And I hope you’ll succeed in everything you do and will be happy.”
Jake (with a disappointed and cold tone in his voice): “That is all you wanted to say?”
Lily takes a deep breath in and smiles as she turns around to face Jake once again and jokingly said: “Yes, what else where you expecting?” (Lily laughs lightly).
But Jake wasn’t laughing along with her but just stood there and stared at her with his serious and stern face. Upon sensing his ill humor mood, Lily suggested that since they were done talking and should go back to finish his packing. But before Lily could walk off, Jake grabbed Lily’s wrist and yanked her back to face him.
Jake (with anger and frustration written all over his face): “You’re done talking, but I’m not!”
Lily (tries to twist her wrist away from him): “Jake, you’re hurting me! Let me go! What’s the matter with you anyway?”
Jake: “You! You’re the matter! Why can’t you just say it??!?! I know you’re in love with me, why can’t you just say it? Why do you always pretend like you aren’t and avoid me. I know you don’t want me to go study abroad, but yet you never say it. Don’t you know how I feel about you?”
Lily quickly pulls her wrist back and covers her ears: “Stop! Don’t say it anymore! Please Jake…”
Jake (continues as though he didn’t hear her plea): ”I’m so crazy in love with you that it’s driving me crazy always having you next to me but not being able to love you. You’re the reason I’ve never set my eyes for anyone else. But you never said anything and only remained as a friend to me. Knowing how you stubborn you are, in the past I’ve let it go and content to be along your side without asking for promises. I’ve done everything to show you my love, yet you always reject me. This studying abroad idea was my last attempt to get any answer from you, hoping that you would stop me. But you didn’t. Why, Lily?” Jake’s face and tone was no longer filled with angriness or resentment but was replaced with sadness and sorrow, “Tell me I have not been wrong and that you do love me too? (he paused) Just answer me please. One word from you is all I need to know and I promise to never bother you again.”
Lily (looks into his eyes and saw a tear falling down): “I’m so sorry Jake, I’m so sorry.” Slowly she wipes his tear away and smiles lightly “Please forgive and forget me.” She walks away leaving Jake standing by himself.
