Tell Him (Completed)

Chapter 4

Coming home after months of filming is always a great relief and relaxation for me. One of the first place I visited was my father’s graveyard. It’s been over 3 years since his death, but I always feel as if he’s still nearby, watching over me. As I sat there in the cemetery, strangely, I felt at peace. A far distant voice caught my attention as I stood up from the grass to see who it was.

“Xiao Qian, so this is where you are.”
“Oh Brother Kenny, you are here. How did you find me?”
Kenny : “I stopped by your house and your mother told me you were here again. So I came.” (slight pause as he looked from the my father’s tombstone) “Has it been three years already?”
I: “Yes, it has. Time flies by fast, heh?”
Kenny: “Yes, it sure has. And you have grown.”
I: “Me? Maybe older, but definitely not any taller or wider!”
Kenny (patted my head): “Silly girl! You are neither! I am the one who is getting older! You on the other hand, are getting prettier and more mature each time I see you.”
I: (laughing nervously) “Me? Pretty? Blah! It must be true, you are getting older as your eye sight seem to have failed you!”
Kenny (pretending to be offended): “Ouch, you don’t have to agree with me on that point! Hey! Stop running away and get back here!”

Brother Kenny and I had many catch-up conversation to do, and that’s what exactly happened. We spent the next few days catching each other up with our past and current projects and life. Perhaps Brother Kenny was right, I seem to have grown up more in the past few years. I noticed this too as we were having our conversations together. One night as we finished dining together at a local restaurant, Kenny told me he’d be off to filming in Taiwan for next year and that it’d probably be a long while before we’ll see each other again.
Kenny: “Xiao Qian, do you have something bother you?”
I (surprised at his question): “No, what makes you ask that?”
Kenny: “Ever since we’ve been back here. I’ve noticed you’ve become more quiet and reserved. Where is my adorable Xiao Qian?”
I (sticking out my tongue at him): “I am not adorable anymore, Brother Kenny? How mean of you!”
Kenny: “So what the problem?”
I: “You know me too well, Brother Kenny!”

Thinking to myself, gosh I do ask for his advice without being obvious about it?
I: “Well, you’ve been acting with a lot of people in your past. Tell me truthfully, have you ever had feelings for them?”
Kenny (looks at me for several minutes before answering my question): “Have you fallen in love with somebody on set, Xiao Qian?”
I: “Don’t be ridiculous! Hey! I asked you first! Why are you answering me with a question?”
Kenny: “If I tell you, I’d have to kill you.”
I: “Well, have you?”
Kenny: “Yes, but things did not work out. Is that answer good enough?”
I: “Oh, I see…So those kind of relationship don’t really work out in the end too much, heh?”
Kenny: “That’s not entirely true. Say, who’s the lucky guy to catch my Xiao Qian’s attention?”
I: “Don’t ask.”
Kenny (chuckles): “So my Xiao Qian is now all grown up and liking someone I see…”
I: “I’m serious, don’t tease me.”
Kenny: “You know I’m just teasing you Xiao Qian. Anyways, seeing that you seem to be determined to be secretive about this person, I won’t ask anymore, OK?”
I: “Thanks.”
Kenny: “I do have one advice though, care to hear it?”
I: “Yes, of course.”

When I got home I could not sleep and just kept rethinking what Brother Kenny had just said. I still was not too confident if I should consider the advice.

“I've been there
With my heart out in my hand
But what you must understand
You can't let the chance
To love him pass you by…”

Mother: “Qian, it’s late. Why are you not asleep yet?”
I: “Oh, I’m sorry Mom. Is the music too loud? I’ll turn it down.”
Mother: “No dear it’s not too loud. I was going to get a drink in the kitchen and saw the light to your room was still on. So I came in here. Why are you still awake.?"
I: “I’m not sleepy, Mom. Why don’t you go back to bed and don’t worry about me.”
Mother: “Well, don’t stay up too late we don’t want you to look all pale and sickly.”
I: “I will I will, Mom. Nite Nite.”
Mother: “Oh, I forgot to tell you. Earlier this morning, a Mr. Chan called you. He left a message for you…something about calling him back and going to some promotion event.”
I: “Oh, it must be Director Chan calling about doing promotion for the new serie. OK, thanks Mom, I’ll give him a call back tomorrow. Now go to sleep.”
Mother:”You, young lady need to go to sleep too.”
I (giggle): “Yeah yeah, see? I’m turning off the music and lights already.”

{ring ring}
I: “Director Chan, Hi. This is Li Qian. You wanted to speak to me?”
Director Chan: “Good morning Qian. Yes, we wanted you to fly down here to do a promotional event for our serie next month in December. Will you be available?”
I: “I’m on my vacation break so I have no plan for the next month or so. How long do you want me to be there?”
Director Chan: “Just for a couple of weeks, three at most.”
I: “That’ll be fine, I can be there.”
Director Chan: “Good, we’ll go ahead and make arrangements for your flight and hotel now.”
I: “Thank you. I’ll see you then.”
