Chapter 7

It was noon time by the time we left the building and walked back to Fung car.
Fung: “Are you hungry yet?”
I: “Yes, I am. Starving actually. Hehehe”
Fung: “Good I know of this good seafood restaurant in Cheung Chau Island we can go and choose your own fresh seafood. It’s a a waterfront café.”
I: “Sounds great! But will we have to take a ferry?”
Fung: “Yes. If we hurry, we should be there in time to catch the next ferry.”

Fung chose a beautiful location for our luncheon. It was right next to the Tung Wan Beach. I was savoring my lobster sandwich and seafood salad too much to have noticed Fung’s laughing eyes watching me eat.

Fung: “How can a person as little as you eat so much?”
I: “Hehehe….I’m very fortunate to have been blessed of being thin! That’s why I can eat as much as I want and not gain weight. And besides, I love eating!
Fung (laughs): “I can see that too. Most other female actresses actually starve themselves to stay thin. A pitty really.”
I (pointing to the seafood salad): “This….is very good! You should have a taste.”
Fung immediately opened his mouth, “Give me a piece…….. Hey, you’re feeding me all over my mouth!”
I: “Oops...hihihihi……sorry about that. I’m not used to feeding big baby…hehehe”

After lunch, we took a walk on the sandy Tung Wan Beach. In December since most people did not often come to the beach, we found it rather nice and quiet to have the entire view to ourselves. I thought to myself, this is a good opportunity to tell him. And so, I took a deep breath and held Fung’s arm back.

Fung (stopped walking and turned to look at me): “Yah, what is it?”
“Fung, this has been so great.”
Fung (jokingly): “You mean the food? Or this view?”
“I mean, everything. The food, the view….you.” Fung was about to say something but I stopped him halfway. I need to get all this out of me before I chicken out again. “Now before you say anything, please just let me say what I wanted to say.”
Fung replied calmly: “Ok, go on. I won’t interrupt you.”
Gosh, this is more difficult than I’ve imagined, especially with him looking to damn calm and relaxed while my heart is beating about 80mph! I can’t look at him and say it!
“Could you please turn around and face your back at me?”
Fung (puzzled): “Why?”
“I can’t talk when you’re looking at me!”
Fung (chuckles and turns around): “Ok. Ok. Woman, always so demanding.”
“This isn’t funny, Fung!”
Fung: “I’m not laughing…. So are you gonna tell me what you want to say or am I just suppose to stand here with my back to you like an idiot all day?”

Great, I think I’ve just lost my romantic mood. Here I am about to confess my love for him, and he taking light of the matter. Damn him! Oh forget it, I mumbled to myself.

“Oh nevermind Fung, just turn around. Anyways, I just wanted to say thanks for everything. The meal, the ride and the generosity.”

Fung looked at me with glaring eyes, I wasn’t sure what to make of his mood at the moment, then suddenly he bursted out saying: “You’re such a chicken!”
Shockingly I replied: “What? What did you call me?”
Fung: “You heard it right. I’m calling you a chicken.”
Did he just call me a chicken? Since when did Fung get so crude on his comment!
I: “I am not. Crazy man.”
I turned away from him and headed for the direction of the ferry.
Fung: “Hey, don’t run away little chicken.”
“Stop calling me that!” So much for the prince charming in my dreams. I quickly sped up my pace, attempting to run on the sandy beach was much more difficult than I had imagined. I could still hear Fung running and catching up behind me when suddenly I fell flat face down on the sand. I gave a great holler, painful yell.
Fung already catching up to me, bent down by my side: “I told you not to run so fast. Are you alright?”
“Yes! I’ll be fine.”
Fung exclaimed: “You’re not only a chicken but also stubborn and foolish!”
“I said….stop calling me chicken!”
Fung caught me by surprised as he grabbed both my wrists and pushed me down onto the sand.
“What are you doing? Let go of me!”
Although I was both frustrated with him and upset with his lack of sensitivity at the moment, my heart couldn’t help but beat faster being near him. His face was only inches away from mine. And before I knew it, he brought his lips to mine and sealed it with a kiss. His kiss was hard and forceful. No, this is not how I imagined it would be. It’s not supposed to be this way. I tried to push him away and off from me, but I failed to do so.
I gave a small cry: “Fung, please no. Let go of me.”
Fung lifted his face from me and looked into my eyes. There wasn’t anymore anger or vengefulness in them, but only regrets: “I’m so sorry, Qian. I’m not usually like this…”

Fung sat up and stay seated on the sand with his back towards me and I was still lying on the sand recuperating from his kiss. A hundred of questions ran through my mind. What just happened? How did it happen? Why did it happen? And for a split second as I looked to up to see Fung sitting there quietly gazing at the seashore, my heart has just told me the answer. He does like me too. How could I have been so blind as to not realize it? I have been too caught up with doubts in myself and fear of rejection that I have not the guts to express my feelings for him too. I sat up and put my palm on the back of his shoulder, “Fung, I…”
Fung (cuts me off before I could finish): “It’s getting late, sunset is already here. We should get back before the last ferry leaves.”

“No, Fung. Wait.” As I looked into his eyes now, I realized that I have been a fool for hiding my feelings so long. And so finally, I confessed: “Fung, I love you.” There, I’ve said it and I’m happy to have finally told him that. Because I know no matter what his reaction or reply is I know he would never hurt me.

Fung (nervously replied): “Did you fall down so hard, you’ve gone mad?”
“No. And stop trying to make this into a joke again.” Looking at him with determined eyes I repeated again my confession: “Lam Fung, I love you! And if you don’t believe me I’m going to…”
Fung (smiles): “Going to do what?”
The nerve of the guy to be testing me now, well I’ll show him.
”I’m going to do this!”
Still sitting on the sand, I reached over with both my hands bring his face down to me and gave him a light kiss on his lips. Fung returned my kiss with many more tender and passionate kisses.

We did end up missing the last ferry back to Hong Kong. =)
