“I’m in my room!” Ariel called out. She was getting ready for her “date” with Wu Chun.
“Yi Chen.” Joe said walking into her room. He flopped on her bed and started flipping through the books on the bedside table.
Ariel walked out of the bathroom and twirled. Joe sat up straight.
“You are wearing THAT?” He yelled.
“Yes. Why? What’s wrong with that?” Ariel asked. She was wearing a halter necked black jersey dress which sinfully accentuated her curves, making her creamy skin stand out in stark relief.
“She looks good enough to eat.” Joe thought to himself.
“You can’t wear that.” He said out loud. Getting up he went to rummage through her closet.
“Here, wear these things.” He handed her some clothes.
“Um Joe… Why are you handing me a parka in the middle of summer? And snow pants?” Ariel started laughing.
“Cuz I know fashion.” Joe said sulkily.
“I’ll pass. But thanks.” Ariel said, busying herself with makeup.
“I don’t think this is a very good idea.” Joe said sitting back on the bed. “No one will believe that you and Wu Chun have anything going on.”
“Of course they will,” Ariel said, putting on lip gloss. “Besides, I’ve never done anything as daring as to go out and actually court the media’s attention for once. It’ll be good for me.”
Joe sighed.
“Where are you going?” He asked.
“We are going to La Estrella to eat and then we are going to see that new play, Carpe Diem.” Ariel replied.
“The one that that was written by the playwright who is being touted by the critics as the best thing since Shakespeare? The one written by Kireinagai K?” Joe said rapidly.
“That very one.” Ariel confirmed.
“But you said were gonna watch it with ME!” Joe wailed. “I want to meet the playwright, I heard that she has a very special attachment to a kettle.”
“Chill Zheng Yuan Cheng, I will watch it with you too. A kettle? That’s interesting.” Ariel said slipping on her shoes.
“How do I look?” She asked Joe.
“Beautiful. Yes, she gets inspiration from it.” Joe said.
“Just beautiful? Why not drop dead gorgeous?” Ariel hmphed.
“Cuz you have a big head already, I don’t want it swelling up to even crazier proportions. Why do you have to see a play with him? Wouldn’t that be spending extra time with a person you are just pretending to date?”
“I do NOT have a big head! You do! I want to see the play with him; Wu Chun has an interesting take on things.” Ariel filled her purse with the necessary items.
“Are you sure you wanna go through with this?” Joe said.
Ariel leaned down and kissed his cheek. “Positive.” Just then a car honked outside.
“Oh, he’s here. I’ll see you later, Joe. Bye mom!” And Ariel slipped out of the house running to the car.
Joe looked out the window and made a face at the car and then took out his cell phone. He dialed a number and someone picked up on the other side.
“Plan A didn’t work. Put Plan B in motion. I’ll meet you there in ten minutes.”
