“First I’m going to beat up Joe and then I’m going to beat up Mike.” And Ethan smiled dangerously.
“What did they do?” Ariel asked. She led Ethan into the kitchen where the guys were eating as though there was no tomorrow.
“Oh Ethan!” Mike jumped up, looking incredibly guilty. “We waited for you, I swear we did but when you didn’t come back, we thought you’d been taken. And we were hungry so…”
Joe peeked up, took one look at Ethan’s murderous gaze and dropped his head again, shoveling food in his mouth even faster.
“Will someone tell me what happened?” Ariel said loudly.
“These clowns,” Ethan glared at Mike and Joe, “sent me into the lion’s den, assuring me they were RIGHT behind me and then took off.”
“Lion’s den?”
“Mike’s place, which was surrounded by fan-girls and women. And ARGH.” Ethan sat down with a huff.
Just then Mrs. Lin walked in with a tray of hot tea. She made a fuss over Ethan and soon he was sitting at the table looking marginally happier than before.
“I’ll get you guys for this.” He said.
“Aw, you know I love you,” Joe said.
“If this is love, I hate to think what would happen were you to dislike me.” Ethan grumbled.
“Save me some!” And Ariel rushed to eat breakfast before it was all gone.
While Joe was doing the dishes, the paperboy delivered the various papers and Ariel ran to get them.
“Let’s see if the plan worked!”
And did it ever. All the entertainment pages were filled with speculations about Wu Chun and Ariel. A reporter had even gotten a picture of them at the restaurant. Joe came out of the kitchen drying his hands while the others were poring over the first paper.
“You look really cozy with him.” Joe muttered.
“It was the candlelight.” Ariel replied.
“There was no candlelight when we-” Mike stopped talking when Joe kicked his leg swiftly.
“When you what?” Ethan and Ariel asked.
“Oh nothing…”
“A New Love Blossoms: Wu Chun and Ariel.” “Wu Chun and Ariel: Engagement Next?”
“Over my dead body.” Joe muttered again.
“What are you mumbling to yourself about?” Ariel frowned.
“I said NOTHING.” Joe yelled.
Suddenly Mike gasped. “What?” The other three asked.
“Look at this!” And he showed them the paper he was holding. There was a picture of Rainie, Mike and Joe sitting together in a park eating.
The headlines read: “Mike, Rainie, Joe-Ménage a trois”
“You guys didn’t tell me you went out too!” Ariel asked snatching the paper out of Mikes’ hands. “And you got Rainie to wear a dress!”
“Why didn’t you call me? I’m SO unloved!” Ethan pouted.
Joe and Mike looked at each other.
“What’s this?” Joe said his attention caught by yet another paper.
“Ariel and Rainie: Crossing boundaries with their love.” It showed a picture of Rainie and Ariel walking together, hand in hand.
“You guys went out too?” Ethan said disbelievingly. “Okay that’s it, I’m calling Rainie. She has to go out with me now.”
