“These people sure like to eat.” Ariel whispered to Mary as they waited to be shown to their room by the maitre.
“Blame Stefan Chou. He hates conducting business in a conventional setting. I read in an interview that by observing people in an informal atmosphere, he can get to know more about them than he would when they were prepared and expected to be scrutinized.”
“Ah.” Ariel breathed. “No wonder he was observing me so intently that other day.” She grinned. “And here I thought he was just bowled over by my extraordinary beauty.”
They both laughed at her outrageous comment. At that moment, the maitre arrived and showed them to the private dining room where Blanche Wong, Angela Cai and Stefan Chou were seated and waiting.
Ariel and Mary greeted them and took their seats.
“I am so glad that you agreed to take the role!” Blanche exclaimed, reaching over and taking Ariel’s hands in her own. “You don’t understand how much this means to me.”
Ariel smiled. “I should thank you, Ms. Wong, for the beauty of your words captivated me entirely. Tuesday is such a complex person, much more complex than any other character I have portrayed. I am looking forward to, with your help,” she turned to Angela, “bringing her to life.”
“Ah, it didn’t say that you are so remarkably articulate on your resume.” Stefan joked. And Ariel laughed, pleased at the compliment.
“Here you go,” Angela said, sliding the contract towards Ariel. Ariel paused a moment, thought one last time and signed it.
Just as she finished signing, there was knock on the door and at Stefan’s permission, it slide open.
“Sorry we are late. We got caught in the traffic.” Said a familiar voice.
