“He’s in his room moping!” Allie, Ethan’s sister told Mike. Mike bounded up the stairs to Ethan’s room, knocking once he entered it.
The curtains were drawn shut and Ethan sat in the dark room staring at the TV. There was a drama playing on there and Mike’s attention was caught as he saw Ariel smile at her costar. Wu Chun. Mike scowled.
“Why are you watching that?” He asked Ethan as he settled beside him.
“I never realized how many kissing scenes this drama has.” Ethan muttered. “I gotta talk to Yi Chen about the dramas she does.”
They both stared at the screen as Wu Chun and Ariel made up after one of their countless fights with a kiss and a hug.
“He definitely needs to be deported.” Mike mumbled.
“They look good together though.” Ethan muttered, still watching the drama closely.
They did not, Mike decided. In fact, they looked really bad together. He and Ariel on the other hand, looked perfect together. Yep. “Besides, she smiles brighter at me.” He consoled himself.
Mike snatched the remote from Ethan and changed the channel. Ethan sighed and flopped back on the couch.
“I don’t understand girls.” Ethan mused. “First they tell you they like you and then they flip out at you and don’t talk to you.”
“Well, you did drool at other girls in her presence.” Mike added.
Ethan shot him a dirty glare. “You are not helping my pity party, Jun Xiang.”
“Where was I? Oh yeah, girls and their nonsense. You tell them they mean the world to you and it wasn’t really you doing the talking but the testosterone and they don’t believe you. What’s up with that? Testosterone is a very strong hormone, it’s practically an individual. Does she think I WANT to look at OTHER girls? I don’t. It’s the testosterone, it looks and I get screwed.” Ethan stopped.
Mike grinned.
“Well, fear not, brother, my- er… Yi Chen and I are here to help you.”
Ethan perked up at Mike’s slip. “Your what? Did something happen this weekend?”
“No, nothing.” Mike said hurriedly changing the subject. “But if you are lucky you’ll be getting a phone call soon and your evening plans will change drastically.”
“Really?” Ethan got up, looking more energetic. “What do I do? What do I wear?”
“Don’t worry. There’s a great fashion idol here to help you choose what to wear.” Mike said meaning himself.
“Of course.” Ethan opened his door and bellowed.
“Allie! Come here; help me decide what to wear!”
Mike sputtered and Ethan turned back to him. “You obviously didn’t mean yourself, did you, Mr. Orange and Red?”

“And you are going to call him and ask him out.” Ariel said.
“What? No, I can’t! Never!” Rainie said defiantly.
“Well okay, I will call him and you can just talk to him.”
Ariel dialed Ethan’s number.
“Hi, Ethan?”
“Ariel? Hey, how are you?”
“Good. I’m fine. Are you free this evening?”
“Yeah. One of my rare days off. Did you want to do something?”
“Good! Rainie wants to ask you something.”
Ariel gave the phone to Rainie and mouthed, “Ask!”
Rainie looked panicked and held the phone without saying anything.
Ethan had no idea that it was Rainie who was holding the phone so he continued talking as though to Ariel.
“Is she talking to me again? I don’t know, Arie, I seem to make her unhappy all the time and…”
“You don’t make me unhappy!” Rainie burst out.
“Oh hi, Cheng Lin. Long time no hear.” Ethan said quietly. “What did you want to ask me?”
“Oh…ah…I was wondering…um…” She stalled.
Ariel rolled her eyes and gestured for her to continue.
“Wondering? It’s nice to wonder. What were you wondering about?” Ethan said from the other side.
“Um…right, ahem.
Wonderingifyouwerefreetogooutwithmetonight.” Rainie said in a rush.
“Excuse me? I didn’t catch that.” Ethan smiled evilly to himself.
Rainie made an agonized face and made as though to hang up.
Ariel put her hands on her hips and scowled threateningly at Rainie.
“I said,” Rainie took a deep breath, blushing pinkly, “if you were free to go out with me tonight.”
“Are you asking me out on a date, Cheng Lin?” There was no mistaking the laughter in Ethan’s tone now.
“I am NOT!” Rainie said indignantly. Then with a look of trepidation at Ariel who had picked up a hair brush and was ready to fling it, Rainie said, “Oh…okay, maybe I sorta, kinda am.”
“I’d love to go on a date with you. Will you bring me flowers and candy?”
“Ethan. Stop teasing her.” Ariel grabbed the phone from Rainie who had swooned on to her bed.
“Haha. Tell her I’ll pick her up from her house.” Ethan said.
“No, it’ll be better if you pick her up from one of the shops downtown. We’ve had hyenas hanging around Cheng Lin’s place recently and if they see you picking her up, rumours will run rife.”
“Okay, so will 7 be okay?”
“7 will be perfect. She’ll be there.” Ariel replied with a glance at Rainie who had her head under a pillow now.
“Thanks Yi Chen. I’ll treat you to strawberries soon.”
“Sweet. It’s a deal. Bye Ethan.” And Ariel hung up. She turned to Rainie who was making mewling sounds of distress.
“It’s 4:30 now, so we have two and a half hours to get you ready to meet him.” Ariel eyed Rainie.
“Call him back and told him that I had to go to Zimbabwe.” Rainie said.
“No. Haha. I’ll tell him you’ve set up camp underneath your bed and want him to visit.” Ariel threatened.
“But I really do feel sick. Feel my hands, I’m dying.” She grabbed Ariel with her cold hands.
“You are as hearty as a horse.” Ariel said. “Now, off to the shower with you and what do you want to wear?”
“I’m dying I tell you.”
“I like the mahogany one. Will bring out the colour of your hair.”
“I didn’t even write my will.”
“Yes, a dress. And I’ll do your makeup.”
“People will be so sad when they hear I’m dying.”
Ariel poked Rainie with a hanger. “Hurry up.”
