“Where is he? He said he’d be here in ten minutes.” She thought to herself. “I swear if he stands me up, I will pull his hair out, one strand at a time.”
Suddenly a car honked and Rainie looked up to see Ethan gesturing from his car. “Get in, hurry, I think I saw Belinda on the next street.” He said as she walked over to his car.
Rainie got into the car and buckled up, feeling an unfamiliar blush stain her cheeks.
“What do you wanna do, Cheng Lin?” Ethan turned and she could see his sculpted cheeks in the half light. She had never thought she would feel something like this for him, something so foreign and intense that it scared her out of her wits.
“I don’t know. Whatever’s fine with me.” She finally said, after the silence had prolonged itself almost to death.
“Whatever, huh? Okay, how about this, I’ll take you to that drive in movie place we used to love going to when we were kids, do you remember?” Ethan said smiling fondly as he remembered.
“Yeah I do. That’s where you always took your girlfriends on the first date.” Rainie said wryly.
Ethan winced.
“Some habits never die, I guess.” Rainie added grinning. “Do you remember that time Joe and Mike had a crush on the same girl and they both asked her out at the same time? What was her name?”
“Leila. Yeah and she ended up dumping them both for that jock.”
“I thought for sure they would get into a serious fight then.” Rainie said.
“Yeah but then Mike just gave her up.”
“Yeah, wasn’t that strange?”
“I know right, cuz he really liked her.”
Suddenly Rainie had an inspiration. “Let’s go to the amusement park!”
Ethan looked at her incredulously. “Amusement park? Rainie, have you forgotten who we are? We don’t have the luxury of walking around like normal people, they’ll eat us alive!”
“I’ll have you know, Xiao Tian, that I am very handy with my makeup. We’ll disguise ourselves.”
At her words, Ethan imagined walking around with a big, fake mustache and his fancy was tickled. “Can I wear a beard too?” He asked hopefully.
“NO, no fake facial hair. I’ll just do some…hmmm….” Rainie looked him up and down.
Ethan felt nervous. She was never up to any good when she had that particular look on her face.
“I’m not wearing a dress, just so you know.” He informed her.
“Oh, neither am I. I’m wearing a wig, you can wear one too… and a hat, and some baggy clothes and-“
“Okay okay, Cheng Lin. I will do it, just for you. But you’ll have to let me hold your hand.” He teased.
Rainie felt her blush return to warm her cheeks and fighting to keep a cool composure she said, “Only if you win me some big teddy bears.”
“Don’t you have enough of those already? Ariel wins them for you all the time.” Ethan said in a sore tone. It never sat well with him that Yi Chen had a better aim than him.
Rainie grinned. “But guys win stuffed animals for their girls all the time!”
Ethan felt ecstatic at her words. “Are you saying that you are my girl, Rainie?” He laughed out loud exuberantly.
“W-w-what?” Rainie blushed ever harder at her Freudian slip. “Ah…um…just drive!” She finally said.
