This made her smile and Chun grinned in reply. "You look like a well fed cat." He wasn't sure how to handle their new intimacy. The woman was still an enigma to him.
"I never expected my first time with you to be this way." He finally said wincing in apology.
Ariel gave him a droll look. "First time? I don't recall saying that I'd make this into a habit."
He was saved from replying by the buzz of Ariel's phone. She answered it immediately.
"About time you got back to me, skank." She said by way of greeting. Chun's brows furrowed.
"Yeah, I know you are a busy man, Ge." Her next words confirmed Chun's suspicions. He slide over to her side and raised an eyebrow in question. Ariel shook her head.
"Do you have the information I asked for?"
"Will you promise me a kiss, no two, heck five if I say I do?" Ge teased.
Ariel cast a quick look at Chun who was close enough to hear his words. His jaw had clenched. "Maybe."
Chun grabbed the phone from Ariel who smirked. "She will not."
"Oooh, is that how it is?" Ge smirked on the other end. Ariel took her phone back giving Chun a look. She put Ge on the speaker.
"Spill it, Ge."
"Okay, okay. Are you ready for the dirty details, Chun?"
Chun didn't reply.
Ge sighed. "No one wants to play. Fine. Liza Oh, born in Taiwan in 1962. Lost both parents to a fishing accident at ten. Lived in an orphanage till seventeen. Traveled to Brunei, found a job at San's. caught San's eye."
"What?" Ariel frowned.
"Yes, buttercup, you heard right. San at that time was twenty five years her senior. Whether she was seduced or raped, I do not know but nine months later, Chun, you came along. Upon your arrival, she was immediately pronounced demented and hoisted off to Serenity Asylum whose owner is quite chummy with San. Must be the money. And there she stayed until 3:22 pm today when she died of a heart attack brought about by the continued use of heavy duty sedatives."
"Goh Kiat San is my father?" Chun asked, disbelief colouring each syllable.
"Sorry for the bad news, mate. Ariel, I'll talk to you soon. Oh yeah, Edward's in Brunei. Be careful."
He hung up. Ariel turned to Chun. "I think you should go see San."
"Yeah. I think I need to too." Chun replied. His mind was whirling. He wasn't sure if he believed Ge. How could it be possible? Did it mean that his entire life up till now had been a lie?
"Let's have dinner first, yeah?" Ariel got up and walked into the shower.
They ate dinner like a normal couple. In a fancy restaurant, attended by friendly waiters. Then they drove to the main house which was almost as palatial as Edward Lin's. Almost but not quite.
"Actually Ariel, I think I'd rather talk to him alone." Chun said to Ariel as they parked the car.
"Fair enough. Gimme the keys. I'll go back to the apartment and catch up on my sleep." Ariel was agreeable. There were some things you didn't need an audience for. She knew that first hand.
"Thanks." Chun got out of the car and walked off towards the front door. There area was patrolled by beefy guards carrying big guns. They were part of San's private guard, the posse that followed him around. He moved past them unhindered and stalked towards his grandfather's office. As he got nearer he heard voices emanating from the slightly ajar door of the office.
"In three hours. That's when we meet the Honk Kong brats. The last shipment of guns has arrived and they've sent Big Petey to close the deal." San.
"It works in our favour though, doesn't it?" Edward Lin's oily tones were recognizable.
"We're going to pull a foul on them?" Another voice, ah, San's trusty assistant Ando.
"Edward has found us a buyer for those weapons, someone who's offering what makes the Hong Kong offer seem like pocket change." San said to Ando.
"And Petey gets the blame?"
"That he does." Edward was smiling as he spoke. It was apparent in his voice.
Chun walked into the spacious office/study interrupting their conversation. One look at his thunderous face and the men present all knew that he didn't have anything good to say.
"One second, Chun," San waved Chun into a chair. "Petey's number is 703-512945. Call him. Make sure he has the details."
Ando nodded and excused himself. Edward followed suit, citing a phone call he had to make.
"I don't see your bride around here. Has she run away?" San said in a supercilious tone.
Chun was intensely angry. Looking at the face of the man who had brought him up, he tried to remember instances when had been shown kindness. He came up blank. Goh Kiat San had never once treated him with affection.
"How can I help you, son?" San clasped his hands together while his lips curved in a facsimile of a smile.
Chun wanted to savagely remove that smile from San's mouth. "Does the name, Liza Oh man anything to you?" He asked and had the small pleasure of seeing the colour drain from San's face.
"I'm afraid it doesn't." San was a master at sounding innocent. "Why?"
"Oh I don't know. May because she's my mother?" Chun bit out.
"My dear boy, what nonsense are you spouting? Your mother died twenty three years ago. You can ask your father if you like."
"That's what I am doing…dad. You know, your years I wonder why Ling, my supposed father didn't take interest in me. Now I know why."
San was frowning, unable to hold on to his genial mask any longer.
"Because he's not my father, is he? You are. Not in any sentimental sense, oh no. I am simply the proof of your depravity. And Liza? Did you rape her? Glory in her cries for mercy?"
"Chun!" It was a strident tone in which San uttered his name.
"Why did you keep me around? To ensure your immortality, huh? While you used your power and money to send my sane mother into a mental institution. Is an heir that important to you? I guess so, huh. I dunno, San, you just might be the most debased person I have had the misfortune to meet in my entire life."
"Know your place, Chun!"
"I am beginning to…father." Chun sneered at the relationship. "Just know this. Henceforth, I do not know you, I will not welcome you into my house or company. And I will not acknowledge your presence. And if you know what's good for you, Goh Kiat San, you will leave me alone." Chun turned to go.
"Listen here, boy. I will not let you walk away from everything I have groomed you for." San warned.
Chun turned, his murderous rage apparent in his smile. "Oh yeah? Try and stop me."

20 Minutes Earlier, Chun's Penthouse
Ariel sipped tea from a large maroon cup, feeling the warmth tour all around her body. It was a quiet night and she needed to think. She had decisions to make.
The phone rang and she picked it up absently, not bothering to check caller id.
"Ariel." It was Edward. Her hackles rose. One word and his smugness flowed through like oil.
"What?" She deserved props for not hanging up immediately.
"I know where he is. I give you 48 hours to eliminate him before I do it for you." Those were his last words.
Ariel stared at the phone for a bare second before springing into action.

Chun closed the safe in the room that used to be his and pocketed the item he had removed from it. He hoisted a bag on his shoulder and turned to leave the main house. His phone rang.
"Ariel?"
"I need to return to Taiwan immediately." She said with a thread of urgency running sharp in her voice.
"What? Why?"
"It's a story I don't have time to tell."She replied. "And I need something to divert Edward's attention with."
Chun's eyes brightened, the blood lust had not yet abated. "Leave that to me."
"What?" Chun could hear the skepticism in her voice.
"We'll leave in three hours. Make the arrangements. I'll meet you at the airport and Ariel? Don't leave without me."

Petey knew they called him stupid behind his back. Stupid Petey, baka. He knew they didn't expect anything great out of him. He wasn't the gang leader's favourite, he didn't have any special fighting abilities to set him apart. Heck, he wasn't even good looking. So when he had been chosen to represent his gang in this transaction, he'd felt it was a chance to redeem himself, become more than he was. So he was determined to do the job right. It was a simple transaction, true but there was a reason San was called a snake and it never hurt to be cautious.
The wedding march sounded. His ringtone. He picked up the phone immediately. San didn't like to be kept waiting.
"Petey?"
"Who wants to know?"
"A well wisher."
"Fuck that. What do you want?"
"Goh Kiat San plans to make a fool out of "Stupid Petey." The caller was blunt.
"What the fuck are you talking about?"
"You are waiting for him by the Black Lagoon warehouses, no? With the money ready and the minimum number of men?"
"How the hell do you know that?"
"I know many things, Petey. For instance, I know this is supposed to be your big chance to get credit from Jimbo."
"You know Jimbo?"
"Your gang leader is rather notorious, Petey."
Petey hesitated. His convictions were shaken. He could not afford to mess up this deal. This man knew what he was talking about. His confidence was apparent even across the phone.
"He plans to rob you blind, Petey. Take your money without delivering the guns. And you know who gets blamed for all of this? You do, Petey."
Petey broke out in cold sweat. If this was true, he was screwed. What chance did he have? He was just a small guppy in a pool of sharks. That's what he was.
"There is only one thing you can do to survive. Talk with your guns. That is the only language you can negotiate your existence with."
Petey nodded, forgetting the caller couldn't see him. This made sense. Yeah it did. "Thanks, man." He said to the guy, his buddy, his saviour across the phone.
"Don't mention it." The caller hung up. Petey stuck his head out of he car window and motioned his men over.
"We have a change in plan, kids." He spoke with a stronger resolve, the steel in his voice gaining him new respect.

Edward Lin was changing into a fresh suit when he heard the news. Actually he got several calls. He had been in a rare light mood until then. Things had been going exactly as he wanted them to.
But the phone rang. A routine transaction had turned into a blood bath. The media, news, the police. It was chaos. And there were some secrets being revealed that ought not to be even spoken of.
Edward forgot dressing, forgot Chun, forgot Ariel and rushed to the Black Lagoon warehouses.
-------------------
Ariel paused at the departure gate and looked back.
"I thought I told you to wait for me!" Chun growled, slightly out of breath from running across the airport.
"I did. Five whole minutes." Ariel handed him his ticket.
"How very gracious of you." Chun muttered as they walked the length of the tunnel to the plane.
"I know." Ariel said, blank faced.
"You want to tell me what this is all about?" Chun arched an eyebrow at Ariel as they settled into their seats.
Ariel looked at Chun. It had been only a couple of hours since she had seen him but within that time, he had changed. There was an added wildness to his eyes now. "What did you do, Chun?" She asked him softly.
He avoided her gave initially but then he met her eyes with a self deprecating smile decorating his lips. "I evened the playing fields, Ariel. That's all. Your turn."
"I just have to save him." Ariel replied, her face towards the window.
"Him? Who?" Chun frowned.
"He is the most important person to me. In the whole wide world. He saved me. Returned the meaning to my existence. So I have to save him. I'll give my life for him without hesitation if I have to."
