The nurse said, “Its fine, I’ll just look at him, from out here.” Ming-Ming said she felt shameful to face him, she rather just standing out here and watch him from a distance.
Chi Lam was watching Jackie for her, since she wanted to go see Hiu Chung. “Jackie, I am really glad that, you’re my son…” he smiles at Jackie, who was sleeping on the bed peacefully.
“But it’s better if we just stay as uncle and nephew right. Your mom, and dad, they’re…they’re really love each other, I don’t want to ruin them, I has purchase the tickets to England for you, mommy and myself, but I guess I could return the other tickets now, I’ll just…go alone. This is my last time seeing you…” he said, kissing Jackie’s forehead.
He places the car toy that he bought for Jackie down next to his bed and then left, he also left a letter in the toy box, he couldn’t allow himself to go see Ming-Ming, he know he would persistent to go if he see her. He closes his eyes and a tear lit down, he gently shut the door and leave.
In the room, Jackie twisted a few times, his eyeballs are moving lightly and his fingers also move…he’s waking up.
Ming-Ming was still looking at Hiu Chung and a nurse ran to her, “Mrs. Yuen, Mrs. Yuen,” she said catching her bread, she turns around and look at the nurse confuse, “yes?” “Your…your son is awake, the doctor said he’s all fine.” The nurse smiles, Ming-Ming’s eyes shine brightly, “Really?” she quickly run to Jackie’s room and he was in there, the doctors were checking him and he was smiling and talking to them.
“Jackie,” Ming-Ming opens the door and looks at him, tears start to run down, they were tears of joy, and on her face, a bright smile spread over, she ran to him and hugs him into her arms. “Jackie, you’re ok now…” she said crying some more, “Mommy, what happened, why is Jackie’s here? Why are you wearing hospital’s clothes…? Where is daddy and uncle Lam?” he asks her, her heart ache again, she couldn’t say a words, just tears, tears replace her words.
After letting tears fall for a moment she then tells Jackie, “Daddy’s sleeping; we got into an accident so you and mommy have to stay in the hospital.” She said looking into his eyes, “What about uncle Lam?” Jackie asks, “Uncle? How do you know about him?”
Ming-Ming was surprise, Jackie was asleep all the time how could he know that Chi Lam has come and visits him many times, “Before I woke up, I heard him saying something like…um… like glad you’re my son, your mom and dad are really love each other…and he said something about going to England.” Jackie said, looking at the toy box over at the lamp desk. “Mommy, look…my car, did you bought it?” Ming-Ming grabs it and handed to Jackie, “No, I didn’t buy this; I didn’t go out of the hospital…so…” Jackie tear the box opened, and he looks at the toy, “Oh my, I wants to have this car for like ever…mommy, look how cool!” he said showing it to his mom, Ming-Ming smiles.
She saw a sheet of paper sticking onto the car, she take it off, and opened it, she started to read.
“Ming-Ming…
When you see this letter I probably gone, I am going to England. Throughout the years, I have disappointed you, hurt you and all. I know it’s my entire fault, you and Hiu Chung loves each other deeply by now. The day I saw you at the emergency room, I knew you’re no longer mine to love. I thought that I could be strong enough to just fight for you, and for Jackie…then we could have a family. But I don’t know what to do when I saw you hurt, saw you cry, and saw Jackie on the bed, lying unconsciously.
Hiu Chung, he did it all, he consoled you, I thought that it’s too much, he beat me already…in any ways. First, I left you with Jackie, but he come and take care of you two. Now, Jackie sees him as a father, I don’t have anymore role in this whole thing, I don’t deserve to have Jackie as my son or to have you as my wife…I lost…
But, Hiu Chung is a good guy, he will be fine, and you two with Jackie will again be a happy family, without a third person like me involved. I’ll just see Jackie as my son…in my heart…
I guess that’s all I could say, but if one day, Hiu Chung hurts you, come to me…I’ll always be waiting for you. I am sorry for all the troubles, for all the pain I cause to you and Hiu Chung. I wish all the miracles and lucky things come to you come to Hiu Chung…and I also hope you guys will live happily together…
Chi Lam.”
Her eyes welled up with tears while reading the letter, “Chi Lam….” She whispers, tears fall uncontrollably on her face and Jackie hug her.
“Mommy, mommy, Jackie’s here, don’t cry…” he said, and Ming-Ming hugs him tightly, “Thank you Jackie! Mommy loves you a lot, and I love daddy too…” she said, “Do you want to go see daddy? Mommy will take you.” Jackie nodded, and then Ming-Ming asks the doctor, he agrees to let them go.
They stood outside and look, “Look Jackie, its daddy.” Ming-Ming said, trying to hold in her tears, she felt her heart aching when seeing Hiu Chung likes this, she rather the person who’s on the bed was her. “Mommy, what’s daddy doing?” Jackie asks looking at his mom, “He’s asleep, daddy is really tire, he’s been working all days and nights, he need to sleep.” She said patting Jackie’s back.
“Mommy, when daddy wakes up, can we go kiting and picnic?” Jackie asks her. She nodded, “Yes, Jackie, you and I will wait for daddy right? NO matter what, no matter how long he will sleep. We will wait for him to wake up, mommy has a lot to talk to him, and we will be such a happy family again. We will go kiting and picnic, and we’ll bring your grandparents too.”
She said, as tears fall down, Jackie smiles and clap his hands together, “Yay! But when will daddy wake up, mommy?” “I don’t know Jackie,” she looks down at him, “But I am sure he will wake up, because we all waiting for him, he will heard us and wake up soon…” she smiles in tears, Jackie, of course he didn’t understand anything, but he smiles too looking at his dad.
“Hiu Chung…I love you…” Ming-Ming mouthed, the sun shone inside and landing lights on Hiu Chung’s face. He looks like a prince, the prince who Ming-Ming is longing, who she waiting for…someday, he will wake up to his wife and his son…(Ok, this is suppose to be snow white, who will wake up, but I flip this around, he he)
But no matter how long it is, Ming-Ming and Jackie will always wait. She smiles and let the sun lights dance on her cheeks, she smiles and wipes her tears away… “We will all be waiting for you, Hiu Chung…so wake up…” she said, putting her arm around Jackie…and they all look at Hiu Chung, knowing that one day, he will return from his long unconscious and they will be a family again.
