Whoever created a saying that, “Bricks and stones may break a bone but words will never hurt you,” is a stupid person. Right… if words didn’t hurt, then how come Eunhyuk was in so much pain right now?
Donghae watched as Eunhyuk shifted from his position to a laying one, back turned against Donghae and covers over his head. Donghae’s throat went dry and wouldn’t allow him to squeak a sound.
Eunhyuk’s heart beat ridiculously fast when he heard a chair being dragged over and a person sitting down right beside him. The fresh air trapped beneath the sheets got harder to breathe in, but Eunhyuk stayed put. He used his hand to lift it up a bit so that a tiny hole could transport the carbon dioxide out.
Before Donghae could think it over, his hand was already reaching out for Eunhyuk’s shoulder. At the mere touch however, Eunhyuk flinched and quickly scrambled over, farther away to the edge of the bed.
Hurt could be seen in Donghae’s eyes. He pressed his lips together, wondering how long it had been since he and his Hyukkie have kissed. He remembered the first time being together at the amusement park when it suddenly rained and they were on top of the Ferris wheel.
It was absolutely magical when the both of them could feel the electricity shoot through them at the gentle brush of the lips. Before Donghae knew it, his nose itched and his eyes were moist in tears. He held it in and tried to touch Eunhyuk again.
Being already at the edge, Eunhyuk could not go any farther- unless he wanted to fall off the bed. He couldn’t hide forever; he knew that, but the longer, the better. Even from under the already heated blanket, Donghae’s hand burned. Eunhyuk could feel it, the warm soft hand. Donghae cleared his throat as if it would help set the mood.
"Hyukkie-"
“You have no right to call me that anymore,” Eunhyuk whispered, interrupting Donghae. The words were almost inaudible. Eunhyuk tightened his grip on the blanket.
Donghae’s heart clenched, and each beat was a new indescribable pain. Every second it seemed like a knife was stabbing his heart repeatedly- showing no mercy on the poor thing.
"Eun.. Eunhyuk.." Donghae whispered choking on that uncomfortable spot that forms in your neck when you're about to cry.
Eunhyuk noticed the sniffing Donghae was doing from behind his back. He wanted to see, but he couldn't. Eunhyuk didn't dare.
"What do you want from me?" Eunhyuk asked as if he had no idea that Donghae was about to apologize.
"I'm.. I'm sorry."
Those were the only words Donghae could bring out at the moment.
"Don't give me those words," Eunhyuk managed to say. He took a deep breath and continued on. "You break my heart and cause me this much pain and now all you can say is that you're sorry?"
Both of their hearts felt stabbed right after Eunhyuk's words. Silence filled the room for a couple of moments until Donghae spoke up again.
"Then what do you want me to do?" he asked.
"Honestly, I don't really.. know," Eunhyuk replied, still under the blanket.
Donghae cautiously reached to the top of the blanket and carefully pulled it down to see Eunhyuk's face.
"I don't need your help, get out," Eunhyuk murmured. "All you did was come here to apologize."
"No.. Eunhyuk. I came here for another reason," Donghae answered. "I came here.. because-"
"Because what?"
"Because I wanted to say.."
"You're sorry.. you wanted to say you were sorry," Eunhyuk finished up for Donghae.
"No, I came because I wanted to tell you that I was a stupid and blind fool."
Eunhyuk's eyes widened and he took one glance at Donghae who was looking at his fingers, having a mini thumb-a-war with himself to distract himself from crying.
"I don't know why I said the words I said to you. I'm sorry I hurt you so much," Donghae added. "You might not accept my apology, and you might never welcome me back in your life.. but.."
Eunhyuk turned his view to Donghae who was now wiping the tears in his eyes. Eunhyuk couldn't help, but let his tears tumble down after.
"Honestly," Donghae continued. "I was in China with the Super Junior M members. But then I took a plane here when I heard you were hurt. The plane crashed and that's how this got here."
Donghae pointed to the cast.
"I didn't know what to say when I got here, Eunhyuk.. and I'm still struggling to find the right words."
Donghae took a deep breath. Eunhyuk continued to stare at him, waiting for what Donghae would say next.
"The truth is.." Donghae paused. "I love you... Eunhyuk.."
Eunhyuk's heart began to race even faster. Was all that he just heard true? Or is he still asleep right now in his dreams?
Donghae didn't know whether to call Eunhyuk "Hyukkie" or "Eunhyuk", but after hearing that he had no right to call him Hyukkie, Donghae's heart broke when he finished his line with "Eunhyuk". He sighed and closed up his part of the conversation.
"And I always will."
Hearing that, Eunhyuk blinked to clear up his vision after the tears had covered it up. But that didn't seem to help. Too many were rolling down. They weren't tears of sorrow, though. They were tears of joy.
Donghae was also tearing. He didn't know if he made the right choice or not, but his instincts made him blurt it out.
"Hyukkie.."
Eunhyuk's eyes were red now from all the crying, but he managed to say something without choking on his tears.
"Really?"
"Really."
Donghae gave a slight nod and lifted his head up, just to hear the most pleasant words ever.
"I love you, too.. Hae."
