Chapter 1

"With the gentleness you feel inside...Your love can't be denied ...The truth will set you free
You'll have what's mean to be...All in time you'll see..." (excerpt from "Tell Him" lyric)

{Honk-Honk}
Cab-driver yells out: "Hey lady, watch where you're going!"
"Oh, I'm sorry." I looked up at the traffic lights and noticed it had turned red again and so I hurriedly walked across the street.
It was the 5 o'clock rush hour traffic time again, and being a Friday today too, the streets were twice as crowded as everyone was sure to be rushing home from work getting ready for the weekend. But for me, I was in no rush. Ever since allowing myself to love Fung freely and being to able to tell and express my feelings for him, I've stopped counting the ticking clock of time and just enjoying every minute or second given to me. I know our time together has not been much, but it has seemed like an eternity. All that fills my heart at the moment is happiness, and it must have been obvious as several passing by pedestrians smiled back at me. One more block and I should be at the Lee's Bakery. Niki, my assistance, had offered to come with me to the bakery incase people did not understand my dialogue, but I had insisted to do this by myself. I wanted it to be a surprise. In the short time that I have been here, I've managed to learn to speak roughly a few practical phrases in Cantonese -- I'm still not very good at it, though my hearing is much better.

"Hello, how may we help you?” said the front counter lady.
"Hi, I'm here to pickup a cake. I had ordered it 2 days ago. My name is Qian."
"Oh yes, Miss Qian." The lady paused for a moment before going to get my cake, "You look very familiar, I have seen you somewhere before....but I cannot recall."

A squeaky yell from the back kitchen directed all of our attention to the back double glass doors. Then a teenage girl with bake powder on her face quickly ran up to the front counter where I was standing, "It's you!! Li Qian!! You're Li Qian! Oh my gosh!"

The front counter lady: "My dear child, have you gone insane. Stop pointing and yelling hysterically at our customer."
Teenager girl: "No, Aunt Mei, it's the actress Li Qian!" Turning towards me and gave me a great hug, "Oh I love you so much! I have seen all your series! I especially love the one you act with Raymond Lam! I love you two!"
The girl gave me such a warming and tight hug; I had no time nor breathe of air to response to her. Thankfully, Aunt Mei walked around the counter and pulled the teenager girl from me, "Good gosh silly girl. You're suffocating the poor lady!"
The teenage girl released my hold and apologized repeatedly, she spoke in Mandarin : "Oh, I'm so sorry Miss Qian. I'm just so shocked and happy to see you in person! You speak Mandarin right? See? I can speak it too! "
What a sweet, clever little girl, well she wasn't exactly little because though she was younger but she was also a few inches taller than me.
Speaking to Auntie Mei, "It's quite alright, really." Turning my attention back to the teenage girl who's still standing there with a happy smile on her face, "Hello! Thank you, thank you very much!"
A few other customers began to recognize me too and started to surround me asking for autographs and pictures. I had not intended to cause such attention, hopefully no negative publicity comes out of this. I remember Fung once advice me to be careful when I'm in public here in Hong Kong because the media is everywhere. And sometime they'd make up gossip columns just to sell their paper. Celebrities' lifestyle just seems to be more conveniently available and popular in Hong Kong than in China.
The store owner offered not to take my money for the cake, but I could not accept such an offer. As I paid for the cake, I saw a couple of flashes of light behind me. After bidding goodbye to the crowd and the teenage girl, I quickly went out the door and got into the first cab I saw. It was a good thing I didn't ask them to write any message on the cake, I thought to myself.

Cab-driver: "Where to Miss?"
{Ring-Ring}
"Hold on, let me answer this call."
Picks up the phone, "Hi there! You're early!"
Fung on the other line: "Hello little chicken, aren't you glad to be hearing from me?"

I know the cab driver was anxiously waiting for my direction and I couldn't possibly talk to Fung on the cell phone with him listening too.

"Are you at the airport?"
Fung: "Yes, I am. Why? Are you gonna come pick me up?"
"Yes, I'm in a cab actually right now. Let me tell him to go pick you up. Is that OK?"
Fung (paused for a second before replying): "I....not a good idea. I'll meet you back at my place, how's that?"
"OK, I'll meet you there. See you soon."
Fung: "Hey, not so quick. Did you forget something?"
Cab-driver impatiently, "Miss are we going anywhere? I'm charging you by the minutes you know?"
"Fung! Stop teasing me."
Turning to the cabdriver, I gave him the address to Fung's apartment in Mid-HK.
Fung: "Hello? Are you still there?"
"Yes, I'm here. OK I'm on my way to your apartment now. See you then."
Fung: "I'm not hanging up until you say it."
"Fung! There's someone here!" Although the cab-driver was pretending to mind his own business I could sense he was still listening to my conversation.

Cursing to myself silently, Oh why did I have to the initiator of this relationship? Now Fung has got a hold on me and think I should tell him how much I love him every single time we say good bye! He's such a baby sometime, but that's why I love him. Coz I know it’s with just a few rare people who get to see this side of Fung.

"Ok, Ok. I love you. Kiss Kiss. Happy now?" (my cheeks were turning pink like red tomato)
I could hear Fung laughing on the other line : "Yes…Luv yah too, See you later."

I understood why Fung didn't want me to pick him up at the airport, it was because a group of fans normally wait for him there to take photos and autographs. Although we've been dating since that day in Tung Wan Beach, we've never went public with our dating. Fung is really private about his personal life, and I agree with him.

"We're here Miss."
"Thank you, here. Keep your change."
"You need help with that cake you got there Miss?"
"No thanks, thank you again."

Fung had given me a spare key to his apartment and offered me to stay there anytime whenever I'm in Hong Kong. Although I have taken the key and offer, I've never actually been there though once we drove by his apartment and he showed it to me from the outside. It's definitely a beautiful, quiet and elegant complex. As I walked up to Fung's apartment, I smiled to myself -- I hope he'll like the surprise I have for him.
